I want to become a lawyer because I’ve always been interested in the occupation and I want to help people. To be more specific I want to be a prosecutor. I used to watch shows such as Criminal Minds and Law and Order and I also watched the news. While watching the news, I began to think that not all criminals are getting caught, and they are starting to do more and more things to damage the world. I can’t stand thinking that people are doing horrible things and thinking its okay. I want to be able to put those people in prison where they belong. The usual education time period to be on the right path of becoming any kind of lawyer would be 7 years of full-time study after high school, the 4 years of undergraduate study, followed by 3 years of law school. Helpful high school courses are Civics, Debate, Government, Psychology, Public speaking, Sociology, Speech, and Forensics. All lawyer MUST have a job degree and my also typically pass a state 's written bar exam. The bar exam is a required exam to practice law in your state. A paralegal must possess people skills, legal research and writing skills, investigative skills and strong organizational skills to be successful in this profession. Cassandra Oliver, a senior paralegal at a large company states paralegals are organized, detailed, flexible and possess the ability to multitask (Hollingshead). As an investigator, I utilized many of the skills needed, and through classes, developed the legal research and writing skills. I will learn the ethical responsibilities that my internship has not taught me, in my ethics class this fall.
Attorneys ensure that society has a place to seek and obtain justice, giving confidence that restitution and retribution can occur within the law. Attorneys have a difficult job. They must know the laws like they know the back of their hands. Attorneys attend school just as long or even longer than most doctors. They have the difficult job of defending their clients or prosecuting the bad guys.
An attorney is like any other profession, such as a doctor, mechanic, accountant, or engineer, there are good ones, and there are bad ones. With lawyers, it is extra tough for the average person to tell the difference. Also, in a civil courthouse you do not get to pick your lawyer, you take what they give you. One attorney states that "50 percent of all people engaged in litigation will end up hating, at least, two lawyers," (Case). There are the lawyers who graduated from law school, passed the Bar Exam, and are licensed to practice law in the state, but seem to have no idea how to defend a client in a criminal case at trial due to lack of experience. Some lawyers lose sight of maintaining post-conviction alternative routes for their customers. Another source agrees quotes "The reality is that prosecutorial misconduct is at least as serious a problem at the local level, where prosecutors are less well-trained" (Lindorff). Becoming a Lawyer Loving to argue, speak, and to persuade/convince, I have chosen to research the career of a lawyer. I have always been intrigued by the audacity and wit that lawyers have naturally. I will explain the steps in order to be on the right path in order to become a lawyer. While attaining a degree in your undergraduate studies, you must select a major that will be of some assistance and relevance to your particular law career. For example, if you want to be a corporate lawyer, you should major in business or if you want to be a judge, you should major in political science.

If you have the dedication and drive you could one day be a famous a lawyer. You never know one day you could be as famous as Johnnie Cochron or Leslie Abramson. Both are famously known for being great criminal defense lawyers. They are considered the best at what they do. Johnnie Cochron is most known for his defense in the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Ms. Abramson is most known for being the defense attorney for the Menendez brothers when they were on trial for the murder of their parents.

Modern law schools differ greatly from their earlier counterparts, in that many more requirements and responsibilities exist. In colonial times, students pursuing a career in law would enter institutions for instruction of the law, and would automatically become qualified to practice law in the courts after a few years of study. Today, however, becoming a lawyer takes much more training, rigorous work and effort, and many years of studying in order to take a bar exam, of which passing represents qualification.
Career as a lawyer is very respectful as they serve to maintain the law and order. They are responsible for providing justice to the innocent and punishment to the offenders. Career as Lawyer on one side is challenging and risky but on the other side, it is prestigious and honorable as well.
