Centura Health Mission and Vision Centura Health is a hospital system located in Colorado and Kansas. They have created a mission and vision statement that focuses on the communities that they serve. Their current mission Statement is “We extend the healing ministry of Christ by caring for those who are ill and by nurturing the health of the people in our communities.” (Centura, 2014). Their current vision statement is “Centura Health will fulfill a covenant of caring for our communities with excellence and integrity to become their partner for life.” (Centura, 2014). These statements are short and meet most of Aguinis’ eight components for the mission and vision statements. These components are products or services offered, customers being served, benefits to their products or services, technology being used, growth and profitability, managerial philosophy, public image, and self-concept of business by the employees and stockholders (Aguisis, 2013). These are more telling on why the organization is around, and what they are doing that is different than the other hospital systems in the area. Overall, with the help of the values, the mission and vision statements are useful tools for the employees and the community to understand the organizations priorities and performance goals.

Mission statements are vital to an organization because they communicate and set the foundation of the purpose of their existence. They shape the attitudes and behaviors of the members of the organization and the perceptions of the public (Hess, 67).
Mission and vision statements communicate strategic goals. “To provide superior patient-centered care using appropriate and innovative evidence-based practices” is a mission better aligned with Amedisys new direction. Additionally, “Drive growth by delivering a full range of holistic health care services, while cultivating a culture of compassion” is a vision that could be used to inspire employees to achieve Amedisys’ purpose.

Furthermore, this philosophical foundation sets the “tone” for physical actions, meaning that the content of the mission statement can determine the behavior of personnel (Hitt & Ireland, 1992).
