I chose Carnegie Mellon because of the opportunities I will have after I graduate and while I am at Carnegie Mellon. In particular, I desire to major in computer science. I have chosen computer science because I enjoy the problem solving aspect. I like being handed a problem and then trying to code a solution to it. Beyond that, I enjoy trying to make my solution as efficient as possible. I also chose computer science because of the direction of the field. Artificial intelligence, software development, and robotics are all rapidly advancing subjects. It is impossible to guess where these fields will be when I graduate in four years and a degree in computer science will open the door for me to get into those disciplines. The wide variety of interesting minors are one of these opportunities. I will take advantage of these in order to pursue my interests and also build upon my computer science foundation, such as innovation and entrepreneurship, discrete mathematics and logic, and robotics. These minors can allow me to gain more knowledge in a specific area that interests me. Another opportunity I will take advantage of is summer internships. I believe the internship options available at Carnegie Mellon allow me to gain invaluable experience that will help me learn more about computer science and the ways it is applied in the real world. If the possibility of internships was not available, I feel as if I would be missing out on an important part of my education. One other major opportunity is the senior research thesis. I think that if I were to do my thesis right, it would provide me with knowledge of what my specific interests are. These are just the opportunities I know I will take advantage of during my time at Carnegie Mellon, and I will make sure to take advantage of any other openings I uncover. The abundance of opportunities is the primary reason that I desire to go to Carnegie
