The Computer Science Major involves creating programs in order to solve a problem or to complete a task. While it has many similarities to the other ITC majors, it is also different in many ways. Computer Science is unique in that it mainly focuses on making programs. It is a more conceptual study of programming. In other words, its focus is more about ideas and concepts than it is about business application. One more thing that makes this major unique is its heavy use of math and problem solving skills. These skills are very important to the major, because almost everything in Computer Science involves numbers. Another very important characteristic of Computer Science is the frequent use of variables and algorithms.

Algorithms are the formulas or methods that are used to solve problems or perform various tasks. It is important that anyone who is choosing to major in Computer Science understands algorithms, because programming would be impossible without them. Information Technology is similar to Computer Science in that it requires an understanding of programming. It is unique in its use and application, and has a much broader range of focus. People who major in Information Technology learn the business application of computers and electronics. As a result, it is a suitable major for people who wish to both work with technology and work for a corporation or business. Information Technology also involves network and database management. Businesses frequently need to store information, and often hire people who have studied this field to manage databases that store this information. They also need people to manage networks, in order to share this information with those who need to access it. It is also unique in its focus on security. Security is a very important concern to many businesses, as an undesired leak of information can be devastating. Companies need people who can secure databases and networks to prevent leaks and unauthorized access from occurring. Digital Entertainment Technology is a very unique study of technology in that many things can be done with it, and it involves many different things such as game development, film editing, and special effects. This field is unique in that it focuses on the study of the development of technology and its many different applications in the field of entertainment. It is also distinguished by its use of storytelling, which is important when creating films and video games. Storytelling is most important when working on a personal project, or a project that one is leading. Stories are fundamental components of films or games, because without them, media would be boring and pointless. Digital Entertainment Technology also involves the creation of visuals. Similarly, visuals and designs are also important when working with media. A “film” that has no visuals is not a film. In the same manner, a video game with no visuals is practically unplayable. The Information Systems field is similar to Information Technology, because it involves the business application of technology, but it differs in that its focus is on the human element of technology.
It is unique in that it does not require an extensive knowledge in programming languages, but rather knowledge in identifying and applying facts relating to technology. People who major in Information Systems will be able to use technology to analyze and process data. It is also unique in that it studies and analyzes the adoption and popularity of new technology. People in this field predict trends in the amount of people who use certain technologies and collect information about proposed technologies. Finally, they also study the impact of the use on households and businesses. This is important when trying to determine the usefulness of a technology, and decide whether or not an improvement needs to be made to
it. While very different, these fields can all play an important role in the overall development of software. A person who majors in Computer Science develops the structure and framework of a new technology. That person writes the programming and makes the commands that the computer has to follow. Professionals in Information Technology design the security of an application to protect its users from attacks and exploitation. It is very important that the people running the software use it as the developers intend it to be used. A person working in Digital Entertainment Technology plans and designs the visuals and interface of the software. They also create the look and feel of the software and any media that relates to it. People working with Information Systems analyses the use and application of the software, and they collect information to help determine whether or not people will use the software. Each field represents the different aspects of software development. Every field is different, but they are all essential to the creation of the final product. 2. (30 pts) What will you do as a career professional in the major you have chosen? As you reflect, tell what personal traits make you suited for the major you have chosen. How will your Christian character and integrity add specific value to your position in a company or organization? I have selected the Digital Entertainment Technology major, because I believe it matches all of my interests. I love video games and films. When I was considering what major I was going to choose, I was leaning toward Computer Science, until I discovered DET. I really want to learn multiple programming languages, but I also want to develop games. My main drive to pick this major was my creativity. I love to make things on computers, and this major will give me the opportunity to do all that. I am also very curious, and it is a surprisingly fitting trait for this course. Trying something new is something that I like to do, and I want to make something new and unique and see how people react to it. That does not mean that I am not cautious. I do not need to take a risk with everything. For example, I know how general level design works, and I do not want to risk fixing something that is not broken. In addition to all this, I am very persistent. I will not stop working with a project until I have it the way that I want it. For example, If I am designing a level in a video game, I will keep redoing it until it ends up working the way I want it to. These traits are perfect for someone who wants to create video games. This is why I believe that I am suitable for the Digital Entertainment Technology major. It is my belief that my Christian values should play a large role in my choice of major. As I have heard many people say before, there just is not enough decent Christian media. I want my Christian character to be reflected in the things that I make, but I do not want to make create a cheap, slopped-together mess, like those low-budget animated Christian cartoons; the ones we have all had to sit through at some point in our lives. There are even some really poorly made Christian video games too. I really do not want to make the next Zoo Race, a Christian computer game that is a perfect example of this. I want to make a high-quality Christian game. Low-quality Christian media is a major turn-off for people who could have given Christianity a chance. I am not saying that what I make will be a rehash of the Bible, but I do want to make something that will reflect the values that I learned growing up. I have a love for allegories and double-meanings, and I may use some that are related to Christ in my media. I want to make people think about the media I make, and I want people to have fun experiencing what I make. I believe that it is crucial for media like this to be produced. God gave me many gifts, and I wish to use them to make Him something of high quality. I want to be able to make Christian media and be proud of it.
Research My first research experience took place from the Fall 2012 – Summer 2013 in a neurobiology laboratory (Dr. Daniel Plas) focused on Parkinson’s Disease. In this project an undergrad student and I were tasked with optimizing a cellular medium for neural growth of the model organism Lymnaea stagnalis. This was comprised of following established protocols and altering certain variables within the formulas (differing concentrations of ions, pH, et al.) to observe growth pattern differences in vitro.
I would include technology and software in a play-center for early childhood education because there are some educational games that can help you children learn. The games or things they do at school they can also do at home if they have the same program at home and they can show their parents what they learned at school. It can help children be better problem solvers and help teach them how to make hard decisions. Technology can help children learn more about the world around them and how the world around them works. They can be also taught how to use a computer which can be helpful in the future when they have to write an essay, fill out college applications or even job applications. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood.

The Impact of Information Technology on Individuals, Society and Organizations Information systems and information technology are important in supporting, maintaining and enriching many aspects of livings. They bring benefits to lives of individuals, operations of business and the functioning of society but there are also drawbacks associated with technology and information system. Both good and bad impacts of information system and technology to individuals, organisations and the society will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs.
Computer technology not only has solved problems but also has created some, including a certain amount of culture shock as individuals attempt to deal with the new technology. A major role of computer science has been to alleviate such problems, mainly by making computer systems cheaper, faster, more reliable, easier to use.
