1. Aside from a college degree, what do you hope to gain from your college experience? My expectation of a college experience is for it to bring positive outcomes that will help shape, and allow me to discover, my true personality. My hope is to gain different aspects of experiences that will benefit me to become a successful being throughout my entire life. I hope to gain opportunities that will help me become an open-minded and out-of-the-box thinker as I progress in the walk of life. Even though I have had some experiences and obstacles that required a more complex thought process to overcome, I still hope to be challenged with different phases of opportunities. My desire in life is to become a highly successful pharmacist, and I know the key to attain that is having a standard education. As it is said in the holy Qur’an, “Who so ever kills a human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and who so ever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved all mankind” (Qur’an; Al Ma 'da:32). I believe pharmacy relates to this quote from the Qur’an as it is an area of science which uses the scientific knowledge of how a variety of chemicals work together to manipulate the body components while simultaneously contributing to an individual’s well-being. This appeals to me immensely because I am profoundly intrigued by how the evolution of science has contributed to the advancements of medications, such as how they function and how they influence society. The development of antibiotics has changed how society sees certain diseases, such as Tuberculosis. My belief is that medicines are not only used to save lives, but also to improve the quality of lives. Insulin is such a medicine as its production has given millions the opportunity to live longer, stronger and free of suffering. Having a standard education will allow me to reach my aims and bring out the greatness in achieving my goals in becoming a pharmacist. College education is quite expensive, but it is an investment that is worthwhile …show more content…

As I reflect on my college life, I wonder about the choices I have made that have led me to where I am today and that will guide me into shaping who I long to become. The things I have had to sacrifice, the support and experiences I have had with family, friends, strangers and work colleagues. I don’t know what I will be doing three months or thirty years from now but I do know that I want to have new experiences. When I graduated from high school, I knew I didn’t want to be that person that moved back to the same town and stayed there for the rest of my life. I even contemplate leaving the United States in my adult life. Who really knows, maybe those cards are still in the deck. For now, I know my immediate goals include focusing on completing my college education the best I can, and moving away from my comfort zone, broadening my horizons and taken risks.
Returning to College as an Adult Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.

One thing that people often overlook when writing an essay is not what the college can do for you, but what you can do for the college. From my college experience, I hope to gain many things. Obviously college is a time that students can truly become individuals. When I attend college I will have the opportunity to become more independent and to take on new responsibilities. I have always relied on my parents for support, but at college I will be on my own and will have to push myself harder. This will help me to become more mature and will help me grow in character. I have long awaited for the time to be independent and now is the time that I shall prove myself.
What are the advantages to studying an undergraduate degree and how do you think the successful completion of your degree will help you in your life?
There is a lot of pressure put on high school students to go to college. Without the Honors College, I would have never met and bonded with my current roommates or any of my other college friends, who push me to try new things and work harder every day. The Honors classes I have been enrolled in have provided me with the opportunity to interact with students who are passionate about what they are studying.
