Unlike many students who are unsure of the specialty they wish to pursue when entering college, my goal has always been to become a computer engineer. Becoming a computer engineer is not simply a decision I have taken lightly. I have thought very long and hard before deciding to pursue this career path. I am the oldest of four siblings, and we grew up in a poor neighborhood in the rural highlands of Vietnam. Since I was young, I have enjoyed dabbling with computers and experimenting with different applications. There was something about computers and programming that always attracted my interest. I have learned small pieces of C++ from the Harvard lectures that are available online as well as through other. I have learned how to replace and install computer components as well as certain programs which were used to prevent the computers from obtaining malicious content. Additional, I started working on my own project about creating a simple website "How To Code C++ For Fun". I did not fail any of my classes and instead received good grades for my perseverance. As an immigrant to a new country, my greatest barrier is English. Consequently, I had to go to tutoring and work three times more than native English speaking students. But despite the frustrations, I never allowed myself to give up. I never stopped striving for excellence. I worked very hard and took advantage of extra credit opportunities, even though I was already earning a good grade in the course. My short-term academic goals are graduating from Cosumnes River College in Spring 2019 with an Associate of Science degree. I plan to start my bachelor degree next fall at CSU, Sacramento and graduate in spring 2022. I am motivated to succeed because my degree is not only for me but also the epitome of how far my family has
