As groundwork for this project, a review of the literature was conducted to identify specific leadership styles, attitudes, behaviors and practices that represent effective leadership in school-based health centers and/or for implementation of mental health quality initiatives. Initially, a broad computerized search of Pubmed, CINAHL, and Scopus using the search terms leadership AND (“school based health clinic*” OR SBHC*) returned no results. A narrower search limited to full text research articles since 2006 using the search terms ( "leadership styles" OR "leadership theories" OR “transformational leadership”) AND ( "mental health services" OR “substance abuse” OR “substance use” OR “drug abuse” OR “drug addiction” OR “drug use” …show more content…
) resulted in fifty-five total results and 23 unduplicated articles. Reviewing the articles for relevancy, including focus on implementation and leadership evaluation, determined six articles pertinent for inclusion. Analysis revealed important themes examining the relationship between leadership and organization climate and evidence-based practice implementation (EBPI). Transformational, transactional, and passive-avoidant leadership styles were identified specifically. Additionally, implementation leadership was recognized as specific leadership behavior that supports effective EBPI. Organizational climate take account the general staff attitude and perception toward their role and working environment.
All 6 studies established organizational climate influenced quality initiative, and EBPI (Aarons & Sommerfeld, 2012; Aarons et al., 2016; Aarons, 2006; Brimhall et al., 2015; Green, Albanese, Cafri, & Aarons, 2013; Guerrero, Padwa, Fenwick, Harris, & Aarons, 2015). Their research demonstrated positive leadership facilitated a positive organizational climate toward evidence-based practice (EBP) and EBPI (Aarons & Sommerfeld, 2012; Aarons et al., 2016; Aarons, 2006; Brimhall et al., 2015; Guerrero, at al., 2015) as well as directly influencing individual staff attitudes toward EBPI by developing positive attitudes and openness toward EBPI (Aarons, 2006) and perceived ability to facilitate EBPI (Guerrero, at al., 2015). Brimhall et al., (2015) found significant associations between leadership style and organizational climate regarding the perceived burden of EBP and whether a climate was “empowering” or “demoralizing” toward EBPI. Green, et al. (2013) did not examine organizational climate regarding EBPI; however, analysis of 322 children's mental health service providers from 49 public programs demonstrated transformational leadership had a strong positive association with a positive organizational climate exemplified by a sense of fairness, growth and role clarity. While most of the research supported leadership as a significant component for setting the
stage for change and implementation Aarons et al., (2016) further demonstrated qualitatively transformational leadership behavior enhances EBPI sustainment.

The role of leadership has become increasing valuable for organizations to be successful. According to Huber (2014), Leadership can best be defined as method utilized to ensure that an objective is completed. There are many different types of leaderships that can be found within each organization. In this paper I will highlight an example of a specific leadership style that we come across in healthcare settings. I will review my leadership self-assessment results and discuss the impact of leadership on staff and groups.

To critically evaluate my leadership abilities, I decided to use the ‘Leadership Assessment Tools Inventory - Gaining Power and Influence Section’ of Kellogg at Northwest University. In order to establish a successful school environment to compete globally, the leader should comprehend the basic leadership theories and styles (Glickman et al., 2010). The cultures at schools are important to the success of the students and overall of the school, but also can be very difficult to establish and maintain without the proper leadership knowledge (Waite, 1995). Leadership is increasingly important in today's society. Many experts and scholars point out that the current leadership crisis concerns moral and character problems in many leaders (Ahn, Ettner, & Loupin, 2012; Callahan, 2004; Wright & Quick, 2011). The following interview report is intended primarily for exploration and comparison of the traits and characteristics of leadership. A leader of a clinical medicine centre was interviewed for this report. The purpose of this report is to explore the leadership characters and traits, and how they can be developed in this turbulent environment. First, I make a brief introduction regarding the background of the respondent and her working environment. The report also describes this leader's personal and subjective perceptions in relation to a literature review which investigates the traits and characteristics of leadership. The report concludes with a comparison and discussion of the results of the clinical condition on the basis of the interview and literature review. At the same time, the report aims to put forward feasible and effective advice and specific programs for present and future leaders and managers in the health care system.
There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
