"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." is a quote that comes from William James, a great philosopher. This quote is saying that your actions do make a difference, no matter how small, and no matter if you think they make a difference or not. Every little thing you do has an impact somewhere, on someone, and on something. Actions do speak louder than words, and you never know how far down the line those actions will be felt. Community service is a great thing to put time and energy into. There are a lot of positive impacts that are made by individuals who contribute to community service projects. There are many different associations and activities that one can volunteer for to help out the community. I have done many different …show more content…
If I was required to complete community service to graduate, I would select the American Legion Auxiliary Post 44 because our soldiers and veterans are underappreciated, do a lot for our country and its citizens, and deserve to be honored in life and in death.
To begin, I would choose the American Legion Auxiliary Post 44 as my community service because our veterans and soldiers are extremely underappreciated and I want to change that tremendously. Being a teenager, I see what lack of respect young adults and teenagers have for our military and its members. They do not quite understand the time, effort, and dedication that is put into being a member of the United States Armed Forces. It is not as easy as just signing a piece of paper and going through training. It is mentally and physically challenging, and those individuals sacrifice a lot to be where they are, as do their friends and families. When they sign that piece of paper, they are basically signing

Support the Troops is a program that sends gift packages to local soldiers who are deployed. It would be hard to be away from your friends and family for an extended amount of time. I am sure that they get to missing home and the luxuries of home such as candy, showers, magazines, gum, etc. They cannot get all the things over there that they can get here, so it is nice and greatly appreciated by them when they receive gift packages containing items unavailable to them. It not only makes those individuals feel good, but it makes the giver feel good as well knowing that they contributed to the happiness of a soldier serving his or her country at pure will. It is the least that an individual can do for someone who sacrifices so much and does not even expect anything in return. I love the idea of sending care packages to soldiers who are protecting my freedoms and rights. It is a way to get the entire community involved in community service because you have to get the items from somewhere. Having the items be donated by members through the community is a really good way to incorporate them and make them feel like they are just as much a part of the organization as those preparing the boxes are. Providing those soldiers with those luxuries is just another way to
The Oxford Post is also the only post in the the state of Michigan that has a “Military History Museum.” It is a collection of uniforms, weapons, books, and other artifacts spanning over two hundred years of our American history. The museum is open to the public every Friday evening from 5-9 p.m.
organizations, my service did not stop there. I was also involved in several other clubs and
I think it would be a good thing for more teens to consider helping out the elderly. By helping out the elderly you can create a lasting impression on them and help them live a more positive life style. It also is proven to improve the health of the elderly if you perform in house care. I think it is equally important to help the community become a safer place by helping pick around town. The more technology and things that come out it is more likely that dangerous or hazardous material to be left around the parks. Last but not least, I think that it is important for people to take part in highway clean ups to pick up litter. I consider these three things to be some of the most important community service projects to be involved
Many think that community service is just something you are forced to do for school. To me, community service is a way of giving back. I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a warm feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a person each time I do community service. Some people do community service because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I have volunteered about 52 hours of community service in the READ program at a local elementary school on east 3rd street and ave S.
Finally, in terms of values, the military afforded me a chance serve a greater purpose. It seems throughout my adolescence I gravitated to organizations that served the greater good. For example, I was a boy scout, I played sports in school, etc. To me, there was nothing like being part of a team and giving your all. It was great to see my contribution and my teammates’ contributions manifest itself in success.
It is important for citizens to help out in their communities, because it helps make our nation a better place, and it also helps citizens get closer with the people in their community. Doing community service also helps people of all ages learn how to be more selfless, content, outgoing, and humble. A lot of people don't realize how many Americans live in poverty. In 2014, the percentage of Americans living in poverty was 14.8 percent of the population, which was 46.7 million people. By helping out in their communities, people can help lower that number and make the United States a better place to
To me, service is not just using up time, but feeling, a life lesson, or even life lessons in itself, like concepts learned only through hands-on experience. There is something so different, so unique that comes with giving back to one’s community. Maybe it is the satisfaction of helping those who may otherwise receive less help. Maybe it is seeing people from all around the world, smile with that same smile of appreciation and gratitude. Or perhaps it is knowing that I have a sensitivity to others that is only gained through serving, or knowing that giving back to the community has made my life richer and more meaningful. Whether it is any of those reasons, I know that community service has transformed me into a more open-minded and compassionate person with a bigger heart and a willingness to sacrifice for
As an educated professional in my community, I would like to make a contribution to society and my community. My background in hours of community service has prepared me for this and shown me its value.

I have demonstrated my dedication to community service by being part of service clubs, organizing volunteer activities, and volunteering at places that I feel are disregarded. I am a part of two service clubs; National Honor Society (NHS) and Interact. In NHS I was the communications officer or historian for a year. I would inform students of upcoming volunteer activities, and I would get them to volunteer. Some volunteer activities I participated in for NHS were park cleanups, beach cleanups, and fundraisers. In 11th grade I would go with some of classmates to Boyd Hill Nature Preserve to rid it of invasive species such as air potatoes and Caesar’s weed. Through NHS in 12th grade I also went with some classmates to a nearby beach, Upham beach
I have participated in countless one-time community service projects as well as a few long-term ones. I have volunteered with school clubs, groups of friends, and done many projects on my own. As the new vice president of National Honor Society, I made it my goal to incorporate even more community service opportunities for our members. I do not see community service as a requirement. On the contrary, I simply volunteer because I enjoy doing so. I find volunteering to be helpful in eliminating stress. With all the stress in schoolwork and everyday life, I find it as enjoyable as a night
A Nobel Peace Prize-winning philosopher by the name of Albert Schweitzer once stated that even though we might not have control over our fate, we can be certain that happiness can be attained specifically through service. Community service is a voluntary work done by individuals or organizations without being paid. It is done with the objective of giving back to the society and building the community. As a youth, I think it is very important for my generation to participate in community service especially here in Malaysia.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
As Secretary of the Debate Club of my high school, I was assigned the job of picking a community service project for the Club to participate in. Our school was having a “service day” and different classes and clubs were picking various projects around the community to do on this day. Some groups were going to play with kids at Safe Place, while others were serving food at the Soup Kitchen, and still others were volunteering to pick up trash around neighborhoods. I saw all of these projects as needs that our community had, but I had the desire to help an individual, or even a family; someone who needed something done, but could not do it themselves. I wanted to make a more personal impact; I wanted someone to feel like we had dedicated our day just to them. That was why I ultimately decided to get involved in a Christmas in Action project. I contacted the organization and we were assigned a house to repaint. I honestly did not think that ...
I would never have thought that community service could be such a reward experience. As the oldest child and growing without my mom, I never had the opportunity of having someone that could help me with my homework or help me when I needed something. Since I came to the United States six years ago I was definitely on my own considering my mom didn’t know English to help me. From this moment forward, I can say I am very proud of myself for being the first person in my family to pursue a college degree and for all the things I have accomplished without having someone that could advise when I was doing something wrong. I figured that with community services I could meet new people and take advantage of the experience I could get to discover what
