Target aired an advertisement for “The Adventure begins here” to celebrate magical everyday family moments. The target audience was mainly new parents, who are into their initial stages of parenthood. The commercial captures the moments and emotions of parenting. The commercial features English and Spanish languages. Furthermore, the commercial features real families to provide and capture an authentic depiction of the emotions parents feel.
Coca-Cola ran its advertisement “America the beautiful” to promote cultural diversity and inclusion. The commercial was targeted towards all families living in America. As such, Coca-Cola wanted to spread the message about the diversity in America which constituted many cultures, races, lifestyles, and origins of Americans. In the commercial, “America the Beautiful” was sung in Spanish, English, Arabic, and other languages and used American families, beaches, canyons, restaurants, etc. as cultural symbols. The main goal was to promote optimism, inclusion and celebrates humanity, which is considered as Coca-Cola's core values. Moreover, the commercial was aired during major national holidays of patriotism in America, such as July 4th and Memorial Day, and in national and international sport and entertainment.

The commercial displayed activities and places which are relevant to American culture and the song were sung in multiple languages, which included English, Spanish, Keres, Tagalog, Hindi, Senegalese French and Hebrew. Furthermore, people of different origins, races, and from different geographies were included in the commercial. Thus, this commercial is more relevant to cultural contamination than the Target’s “The Adventure begins here”

Coca Cola’s commercial clearly embraces the diversity that is embedded in American history, thus portraying the melting pot through the use of different languages. One of the reasons America is so beautiful is because we accept and embrace other nationalities. Conversely, the negative impact of the commercial depicts how America still has not moved past prejudice thinking’s, discrimination, and segregation.
Pathos, being the strategy most strongly used in this commercial, connects with the feelings of the audience. By featuring the commercial atop a green hill with a diverse group of people, Coca-Cola is showing that people of different cultures can come together in harmony, which aforementioned, was what people were looking for at this period in history. Not only the thought of harmony among groups of people, but the song that they sing together melodiously. Ethos, pathos, and logos are ways that an artist or an advertisement use in order to effectively persuade or convince readers to buy their product. Ethos is used to convince audiences that an ad is credibly and that people can believe what they reading. Pathos is when an artist or advertisement try to appeal to the consumer’s emotional state. Finally, logos is trying to convince buyers to purchase their product by using logic or reasoning. By analyzing the use of ethical, emotion, and logical appeal, we can compare and contrast a Pepsi ad and a Coca Cola advertisement.
First, the concept was both a strength and weakness for the campaign. On the one hand, it was simple enough to translate into multiple cultures easily— in that it had a global appeal, and it was interesting to see how the brand would associate itself with happiness. However, it can be argued that the ‘open happiness’ slogan is vague and leaves a lot to desire. It does not talk about Coke and by itself, could be mistaken for a slogan for any other product. One wonders how much it could influence people to make a purchase decision about Coca Cola. In conclusion, I think Coca-Cola has done an excellent job of presenting the claims, supports, and warrants of it’s products in this ad. They have used many different tactics and hidden meanings to get this ad across; when their main concern is to make the ad appealing to the ordinary woman. This advertisement most likely wants a universal audience so it does not try to appeal to a certain status or rating. It gives no sense of appeal to thrift or savings. This advertisement is most likely aimed at all consumers. The ladybug that was mentioned in the previous paragraph might even signal that they are trying to appeal to a younger audience as well. On the right side of this Coca-Cola advertisement, besides the Coke bottle, the creators have placed a quote that says, “open a Coke, open happiness”. This quote appeals to the consumers emotions because they try to infer that by drinking a Coke you, the consumer, will become happier. In the background they purposely made it look joyful to give a happy feel to the advertisement. The tone of this advertisement would have to be joyfull. Considering the creators most likely trying to portray to a universal audience, they want all consumers to take note of this advertisement and have no one excluded from purchasing their products.
