Performance Management Analysis
Performance management encompasses far more than an annual evaluation of an employee. Performance management includes an organization’s leadership and management. Also included is the strategic planning process. Defining the status of an organization’s present identity and future goals is a vital component of the strategic planning process typically carried out through an organization’s vision and mission statements (Aguinis, 2013). The following discussion of Coca-Cola’s vision, mission, and stagey along with their approach to leadership and management will provide insights as to the alignment of their strategy and performance management with their human resources.
Vision and Mission
The vision and mission statements of an organization, when properly developed and communicated alert stakeholders to the goals and strategy of the organization (Aguinis, 2013). They promote these goals to employees so they understand their purpose in assisting the organization in reaching said goals (Aguinis, 2013). Coca-Cola is a brad known around the world; beyond its infamous status, it is also one of the most beloved brands around. The vision, mission, and strategy of this company play a major role in the affection for this brand.
Mission
Coca-Cola’s mission is “enduring,” the goal being to “refresh the world, inspire moments of optimism and happiness, and to create value and make a difference” (Coca-Cola, 2013, p. 2). Coca-Cola manages its human resource department through a decentralized human resource system, which means that not only management can have an input in decision-making but employees can as well. Coca Cola’s decentralized system ties together shared visions of the employees and management, but Coca-Cola also realizes the complexities of managing operations in different locations that the company has established an International Advisory Council (IAC) to help senior managers make effective decisions for the company.
Branding a new company has recently become a necessary goal that every business wishes to accomplish for itself. New companies have a tough act to follow, considering the number of successful branding accomplishments: Apple, Coca Cola, Nike, and Starbucks — just a few of the examples of very successful business that have swept the market. Who doesn’t think of Apple, Coca Cola, or Starbucks, without also visualizing its brand? Apple has surpassed Microsoft, the latter having previously dominated the market for years. The reason is partly due to Apple’s highly successful branding strategy. The Coca Cola Company has also similarly surpassed Pepsi. Which brand is more recognizable? As a matter of fact, Coca Cola’s highly recognizable brand image has allowed it to conquer the U.S. carbonated beverage market, but they also have expanded their outreach to the international market, putting many local business around the world on the skids.
This particular case is centered around the Human Resources strategy that was implemented by Johnson & Johnson in 1997. This strategy includes many key aspects of corporate culture, leadership and global strategy integrated into one single global human resources program. This program allowed Johnson & Johnson to diversify their current employees, raise the standards for future employees, redefine the standards of leadership within J&J and improve global management overall.
Coca-Cola HBC has 36,362 employees among those 87% are highly engaged based on the latest statistics recorded on their website (Coca-Cola HBC 2016). The company has developed new set of corporate values two of which specifically designed to address the concerns observed during their latest employee survey including, work-life balance and providing more opportunities regarding “employee input into the business”. The company has tried to

However, creating, developing, and maintaining a system that captures all the characteristics of an ideal performance management system should involve an ongoing collaboration between leadership and employees to achieve a successful outcome. After all, the performance and success of the organization is dependent upon the employees.
