Having academic integrity is of the upmost importance to me. I value myself as a student who wants to learn and strive to be academically successful by displaying honesty, trustworthiness and self-respect. I want to know that my degree was earned honorably.
Three examples of infractions that violate the Student Code of Academic Integrity are plagiarism, fabrication and collusion. Plagiarism has been around for a long time and has been violated by many famous and important people. Whether accidental or not, plagiarism is wrong and can be avoided. No one should ever take credit for someone’s else’s work or ideas. Fabricating information is wrong. Lying and making up information or data can be misleading, deceiving and can have negative consequences, as people may be relying on the information that is being provided to them. Having knowledge that any of your classmates have purposely committed either plagiarism, fabrication, cheating or any other academic dishonesty and collaborating in the act whether by assisting them or omission is collusion. In your academic life, you want to assure that you are honest and trustworthy, not just with your classmates and your instructors, but with yourself. Mispresenting work as your own is morally wrong and unjust and can have serious consequences. Doing the right thing isn’t always easy but can be very self-gratifying. Having strong morals will help you in life because it will help build you into a person that people want to work and associate with. Practicing integrity in your academic life will carry over to your professional life. Employers want to hire people who are honorable, trustworthy, and responsible as they will be a reflection of their company’s values. Displaying these qualities will help you succeed professionally and allow you to live a more prosperous
