Plagiarism is unfortunately a common mistake that students at every level make. Plagiarism is the act of copying or using someone else’s work without giving them the credit they deserve. To go along with plagiarism, academic dishonesty is also very prominent. It can fall under the category of cheating, fabrication, deception, and sabotage etc. MOst students feel the pressure of getting good grades and not manage their time well and sadly make the decision to lack the proper ways to give people credit for their work. I have made this mistake and has given me the opportunity to research the policies at Mount St Mary's and Bloomsburg University to see their outlook in it and also research what I can do ro prevent doing it again. With moral and ethical principles when engaging in academic and scholarly pursuits, Bloomsburg believes their students have displayed academic integrity. It is very important to them to help mold future citizens in the working community with a guide to be trusted, honest people who have personal integrity when dealing with other people. If a student is suspected of academic dishonesty which Bloomsburg outlines anything from cheating, obtaining an unfair advantage or plagiarism, actions will be put into action. Bloomsburg first step is to inform the student that they are being suspected of dishonesty. They allow faculty members to choose between 3 options of disciplinary actions. Option 1 is informal confidential resolution which involves solely the student and the faculty member. The student may have to do a verbal and written reprimand, an appropriate additional assignment, or lowering grade. If more consequences are desired, they must file an Academic Integrity Policy Violation Report Form with the Office of the Dean of Students. Option 2 is with a filed report is the same as option 1 but in addition to a Academic Integrity policy Violation Report Form. If a second offense is brought up, it will be resolved with Academic Grievance Board. Option 3 is put into effect if the student accepts charges but not the penalty, and had previous offenses, the Academic Grievance Board will notify all parties …show more content…

My essay was classified as being plagiarized because i used multiple sources information without properly changing the wording into my own words. I have learned that it can be very easy to fall into the trap of plagiarizing and have researched steps use to learn not to do it again. One step in the technique of paraphrasing which is when you read a paragraph and rewrite it in your own words. Also i need to give credit where credit is due such as in text citations. Also if i am taking direct wording from a source, i must use quotation marks to give full credit to the course. If i follow these rules, i will be successful at writing high quality essays using my own
