Those positive facial expressions will also leave a good impression on the audience. At least those peers will not reject to be a friend like Carl in the life. When talking about the harassment of women carl’s eyes are full of empathy and anger which could make those people feel Carl is also the one fights for them respect to them and help to them like friends. No one will reject to give credentials to who would like to be their friends and also have the good ability. It’s the proof of his faith perseverance and willpower which are the only things that could win the heart of everyone. It shows the audience Carl is the one they need and the one they could rely
on. It also has necessity to mention the color and light of the background to which I firstly didn’t pay much attention. The color is tint and warm which will make people like to watch it longer time and the light is not so bright but like the sunlight of morning. All those backgrounds create a kind of peaceful comfortable and reliable atmosphere. Besides, this background will also make Carl and his father become the focus of the video. As for the music, it is relaxing and more like a type of music played in a tea party. The music is a little light and soft which makes the saying of Carl and his father more real and reliable. The final screen that Carl and his father said love you to each other is also so moved. It’s so natural and love is also the theme of this conversation. They love each other and the same love exists among every audiences. Love is another thing Carl tries to use to move and appeal his audiences.
In the passionate article, “The Digital Parent Trap” by the renowned Eliana Dockterman, the author convincingly portrays that there are benefits to early exposure to technology and that this viewpoint needs to be more pervasive or else there would be a severe problem with broad consequences. The author effectively and concisely builds the argument by using a variety of persuasive and argumentative rhetorical techniques including but not limited to the usage of ethos, evidence, and pathos.
Media such as movies, video games and television, in general, are all created to support some form of social context. This helps with generating popularity because people are able to relate to the form of media. In Greg Smith’s book What Media Classes Really Want to Discuss, he describes 6 different representational strategies that justifies people’s way of thinking. The trope that I will be amplifying is the white savior tactic. In addition, I will connect this strategy to the movie The Blind Side. There are clear examples throughout the film where racism and low-income cultures exist in which the white family is there to help. The Tuohy family from the movie “The Blind Side” serves as the white savior for the progression of Michael
In the book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote about Christopher McCandless, a nature lover in search for independence, in a mysterious and hopeful experience. Even though Krakauer tells us McCandless was going to die from the beginning, he still gave him a chance for survival. As a reader I wanted McCandless to survive. In Into the Wild, Krakauer gave McCandless a unique perspective. He was a smart and unique person that wanted to be completely free from society. Krakauer included comments from people that said McCandless was crazy, and his death was his own mistake. However, Krakauer is able to make him seem like a brave person. The connections between other hikers and himself helped in the explanation of McCandless’s rational actions. Krakauer is able to make McCandless look like a normal person, but unique from this generation. In order for Krakauer to make Christopher McCandless not look like a crazy person, but a special person, I will analyze the persuading style that Krakauer used in Into the Wild that made us believe McCandless was a regular young adult.

Advertisements are one of many things that Americans cannot get away from. Every American sees an average of 3,000 advertisements a day; whether it’s on the television, radio, while surfing the internet, or while driving around town. Advertisements try to get consumers to buy their products by getting their attention. Most advertisements don’t have anything to do with the product itself. Every company has a different way of getting the public’s attention, but every advertisement has the same goal - to sell the product. Every advertisement tries to appeal to the audience by using ethos, pathos, and logos, while also focusing on who their audience is and the purpose of the ad. An example of this is a Charmin commercial where there is a bear who gets excited when he gets to use the toilet paper because it is so soft.
Unfair treatments have occurred too numerous to count no matter it is related to racism, social differences or gender discrimination. In the song “Fortunate Son” created by John Fogerty, who is the lead singer and the guitarist in the Creedence Clearwater Revival, the songwriter uses first person point of view to depict a man who is unfortunate comparing to other people mentioned in the song. Metaphor, imagery and repetition are used to describe unequal treatment.
Many people have transformed, or changed, throughout their lives, either in a positive or a negative way. But what does it mean to transform? That can be different between people and the way they think. Some think it's something unacceptable and you should try avoiding it, others want to transform themselves. To transform, you just need to see the true meaning of things and be happy. It is possible to change, but you need a reason to change. You need motivation, just like how you need the motivation to do the things you love to do.
The commercial emphasizes an altruistic parent-child relationship throughout. It shows all of the incredible ways a father sees his daughter grow through her first years of life and the impact she has on him. Using this relationship coupled with the nostalgia-inducing music played throughout the commercial provides the audience with a feeling of saudade that shapes the advertisement.
The movie trailer “Rio 2”, shows a great deal of pathos, ethos, and logos. These rhetorical appeals are hidden throughout the movie trailer; however, they can be recognized if paying attention to the details and montage of the video. I am attracted to this type of movies due to the positive life messages and the innocent, but funny personifications from the characters; therefore, the following rhetorical analysis will give a brief explanation of the scenes, point out the characteristics of persuasive appeals and how people can be easily persuaded by using this technique, and my own interpretation of the message presented in the trailer.
On April 3, 1964, Malcom X published his famous speech named “The Ballot or the Bullet” and on 1963, the author Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter from jail to respond to eight white clergymen, who criticism him for unwise, untimely and extreme. The purposes of both writers are fight for civil rights and black liberation. They both use ethos, pathos and logos in their writings, which extremely useful in getting to their point to persuade the audiences to fight for their belief. Despite there are different between how they use these strategies but both use it very effective and produce very persuasive writings.
Sherry Turkle’s article in The New York Times “The Flight From Conversation”, she disputes that we need to put down the technology and rehabilitate our ability to converse with other human beings because we are replacing deep relationships with actual people for casual encounters on technology. Turkle tries to convince young and middle age individuals who are so enthralled by the technology that they are losing the ability to communicate in a public setting. Sherry Turkle unsuccessfully persuades her audience to put down the technology and engage with others in public through her strong logos appeal that overpowers her weak logos and doesn’t reliably represent herself and her research.
In conclusion the ad shows its appeal to logos, pathos, and ethos by having a woman on it and having her state her opinion. By having the character state her opinion it will make people who see this ad think about the issue at hand. In addition to that the ad uses a simple but effective way to capture the audience’s attention. It captures attention by using a well-known character, a short but effecting statement, and a simple color scheme to draw attention. Doing so helps grab the reader and then further deliver the message of pro-choice and that it’s a woman’s choice to do with her body as she pleases.
The relationship between a parent and child is important because it forms a bond that is needed for children to develop normally socially, emotionally, and physiologically. The relationship of a father and daughter are analyzed using two main sources; a television commercial and an article. Advertisers and corporations use many strategies to make their product or purpose effective and to appeal to the targeted demographics. Logical fallacies, proofs that include ethos, pathos, and logos, audience and context are used. Logical fallacies are a list of common mistakes that are used as aids to appeal to an audience. Ethos is the proof that appeals to emotion and feeling; pathos appeals to credibility and logos uses evidence such as research and
The picture of the advertisement is very moving itself. The very noticeable pitch dark background denotes terror, misery and despair giving us the idea of how appalling the situation is.The young boy’s depressed and innocent expression adds to the dreadful image and makes it’s viewers emotional. We can clearly see a black eye on his face showing he is a victim himself and this injury focuses on the fact of how gruesome and painful it can be to be a victim of such abuse. In the middle in white text is written,”HE HAS HIS MOTHER’S EYES”.This is the main and the most highlighted part of this advertisement and the font size and bright color makes it more visible than any other text in the image. The line is presented in a sarcastic manner adding slight humor to the criticism of this issue. When we say someone has his mother’s eyes we mean that person’s eyes resemble that of his mothers’.In this case, the young boy not only inherits his mother’s looks but also the sufferings and hardships that his mother had to go through due to physical abuse.I thought the way this message was presented makes the argument even more compelling. The ugly truth hidden under this sarcasm hits the viewers the most as they realize how easily this damage can transfer from one person to another,in this case from a mother to her son.In a smaller text at the bottom right of the picture it says to “report abuse”.This shows civic engagement that as a responsible citizen we should raise our voices if we
