The goal of self-evaluation is to improve or stabilize oneself or one’s performance. This process is performed on an individual or organizational level, often with explicit criteria being used to examine and assess oneself or one’s work against a set of previously agreed-upon standards.

Self-evaluation is a largely autonomous process that usually takes place over a period of time; it is closely linked with self-monitoring and involves self-reflection. Self-evaluation teaches an individual to be more responsible and practice self-regulation.

    2. Make a list of accomplishments– Write out a list of your achievements during the period of evaluation. Make it as broad as possible – when you write the actual review, narrow down the list to include only things you’re most proud of or those that brought most value to your work. If the self-evaluation is being done in a professional setting, make sure to include any available data to support your accomplishments.
    3. Make a list of challenges – Make a list of the challenges you faced during the period under evaluation. Use positive language to describe your struggles - this is to highlight your willingness to grow and improve. If possible, offer solutions instead of complaints.
