Nothing is better than being able to keep fit whilst living a healthy lifestyle, even when an individual is pregnant. A mothers first thoughts when pregnant are to stay fit, keep healthy and find ways of making sure the unborn is healthy too, hence the thought of doing regular physical activity. According to Wright (2013:1), there can be many benefits that can be associated with exercise as well as that by doing moderate yet effective physical activities, can no doubt be safe for the unborn baby and mother. There may also be aspects which involve knowing what types of activities to do, such as aerobic exercises and muscle-strengthening exercises. Often, exercise can be seen as a positive among women who are pregnant and wanting to stay fit. Many women begin to think that possibly exercise will harm the fetus and that they may not begin to improve physically, however with the right considerations, effort and approaches, exercising during pregnancy can ensure a healthier lifestyle for the mother and help in the development of the fetus and the child after birth. Whilst exercising durin...

“Crack-babies” a media induced phenomena brought about by the climax of public outcry from the results of the 1980’s war on drugs. This term laid the foundation for biased prosecutions which sparked a political crusade during climate of the time. Thus exploiting the public’s fear of children born to substance addicted mother and creating a firestorm of litigation to prosecute pregnant drug addicts. According to Flavin, Paltrow (2010), current evidence points to public stigmas and prejudice as posing a greater danger to both maternal and fetal health than use of the drug itself. Leaving the question as to why addicted women are still publicly reviled for the outcomes of their circumstances. From this abhorrence stems the likelihood that these women would be deterred from seeking prenatal care than to seek help for their addiction; expelling an even greater issue as the concern of health care is then added to the mix. The complex social issues then must be taken into consideration to underscore the need for policymakers to allow for the legal and medical systems to better create programs for these women and allot for rehabilitation instead of punitive solutions.
This helps the mother control weight gain as she tends to gain less weight in the first trimester. though, they had some differences in their vitamin intake as one mother took medication for prevention of malaria due to her surroundings, they both took the recommended vitamins and nutrition for healthy child development, such as vitamin B complex (folic acid), multivitamins, fruits, vegetables, and an increase intake of water to help with dehydration and constipation. They both exercised during their pregnancy, though their intensity was different. For instance, the first mother didn’t engage in any form of exercise until her second trimester due to her history of miscarriages. The sex exercise was the most shocking part for me as I believe it could potentially harm the baby if care is not taken, but she claimed it helps to prepare the birth canal for childbirth resulting in a less painful and strenuous delivery (Santrock,

It is important to understand what women commonly experience during pregnancy. With a better understanding of what happens during prenatal development and childbirth, physicians can competently develop the best plan for the mother and baby. I interviewed two women who have been previously pregnant in order to evaluate how the ideas in the book translate into real-life experiences.

Diabetes is a disorder of the breakdown of glucose in the body. Glucose levels in the body are maintained through diet and the aid of insulin. Glucose is brought into the body through various types of foods, the most common one being carbohydrates. Once glucose is in the body, it is distributed through the bloodstream with the help of inulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. In patients with diabetes, either the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the cells the glucose is targeting do not respond appropriately. There are three main types of diabetes: type I, type II, and gestational diabetes.
Although most studies have shown that physical activity prevent morbidity and mortality independent of weight, the range of benefits vary for among various groups stratified according to age, sex, race and BMI. Also, different dose of physical ...
... the end of your pregnancy, you often have trouble sleeping, and by exercising, it tires you and makes you work off extra energy so that you can sleep during the night. Exercise also assists in preparing you for childbirth by shortening labor, having fewer medical problems, and giving you endurance. I do not know any woman who would not appreciate those things.
Prenatal development is often overlooked, but it is an important topic that everyone is influenced by. Mothers’ actions during pregnancy greatly affect the child (for good or for bad). There are many factors to a baby’s development of the brain, intelligence, and emotions. What a mother puts into her body affects the baby’s development. How stressed the mother is also contributes to development. A mother’s job during pregnancy cannot be overstated, because she is the main protector and nurturer of the child in the womb. How she handles her own emotional and physical health will determine the development of the baby inside and outside of the womb. The decisions a pregnant woman makes affects not only her health, but the health of her child.
One of the primary prevention methods in maternal health is the utilization of prenatal care. During the provision of prenatal care, a healthcare provider counsels and discusses information with the expecting mother. Conversations about smoking and alcohol use, what to expect during pregnancy, when to seek help, and limitations on activities are put in place (Kirkham, Harris, & Grzybowski, 2005). Discussions about possible complications and potential warning signs are also an important part of prenatal education. Providing supplements, such as, calcium (1,000 to 1,300 mg per day), folic acid (0.4 to 0.8 mg), and iron (30 mg per day) to an expecting mother is also an important part of primary prevention, as they aid in the fight against blood pressure disorders, anemias, and defects in the unborn child (Kirkham, Harris, & Grzybowski, 2005). Additionally, the vaccination of expecting mothers has been shown to keep mothers and the unborn child healthy during pregnancy. Certain vaccinations, such as Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and inactivated influenza vaccinations, have been shown to be protective to the fetus, as the mother’s antibodies against the disease are transferred to the unborn child (Esposito et al., 2012).
The only contraindication is in the intensity of the exercise if any pre-existing illness or pregnancy that is in high risk pregnancies. Thus, it is considered that physical activity is essential for pregnant women, but should always be made with the help of a professional. There are many different areas to consider when preparing for and having a newborn. Whether the pregnancy was planned or unplanned or the couple is married or not, a newborn baby brings new responsibilities. Having a baby also forces people to make adjustments both financially and within the family. Parents also express concerns and expectations when having a newborn comma especially when it is their first; including what roles each parent and family member should play, how much confidence they have in their parenting skills, and how much financial strain would be placed on the family once the newborn has arrived. The newest issue in today’s society is the fact that many women are delaying childbirth and having more children in their later years of life.
