If you are reading this then it means that you have made the difficult choice of wanting to be a wrestling mat maid. Being a wrestling mat maid can be both amazing, exciting, and disgusting. It takes a certain person to be a wrestling mat maid, do you think you have what it takes? Warning this is not an easy job and it is not for innocent human beings.
The first step into being a wrestling mat maid is that you have to be strong inside and out. Half of the time you will be used as a pack mule. At tournaments typically, a mat maid has to carry all the food and supplies needed for the tournament. If you are lucky occasionally the boys will help out. You must be strong inside as well as physically because wrestlers can be crude and mean. Especially after losing a match, you cannot take anything to heart or you will get offended every five minutes. One of the most important concepts of being a mat maid is that you cannot have sensitive ears. There will be yelling, profanities, and you will feel violated with some of the things that you hear but you have to not be able to take anything to heart.
Next, you must be able to do the impossible at the drop of a hat and multitask. Whenever a wrestler or coach wants something they wanted it yesterday. Most times a mat maid will be in the middle of anything and have to continue

what they are doing as well as doing whatever the coach or wrestlers need them to do. Believe it or not, there will never be enough mat maids to take care of all the needs of the wrestlers and coaches, therefore, each girl must be able to multitask. As a Mat Maid, you are never strictly doing one thing. You are filming one boy's match while giving the other a tampon to stop their nosebleed. Scoring while also doing the tournament brackets and so on. Another thing is as a mat maid you must always have tape on you, the wrestlers need it constantly and it saves time when you keep it in your pocket. Next, you must be able to be good at cleaning, as a mat maid, you clean continually. After practice, you have to mop the mats, do laundry, keep the locker rooms clean, the wrestling room, and you have to clean up after matches. To be able to score you must be able to do simple math quickly, if math is not for you neither is being a mat maid. In order to score which is one of the single most important concepts in being a mat maid, you must be able to do simple math in your head.
When a wrestling pins another wrestler, you have to calculate the fall time. For example, Johnny pin Steve in the first period with 0:57 second left on the clock his fall time is 1:03. There are two minutes in each period if Johnny pinned Steve in the second period then you add the two minutes from the first quarter plus two minutes subtracted by the time that is left on the clock when he pinned him. So it is in the second period and the wrestlers pin Steve when there is 1:12 on the clock, his fall time is
2:48. In order to be a good mat maid, you must develop a huge tolerance towards nasty things. As a mat maid, you see and do all kinds of terrible things. For example, checking the wrestler's urine to see if they are hydrated enough for the body fat test. Body fluids are constantly being seen as a mat maid, sweating is the norm in wrestling. You must be able to handle it. During wrestling season wrestling becomes number one, it is very time-consuming. You will have to work practice at least once a week and have tournaments and duals constantly. No, you do not wrestle but you become part of the team, therefore, you make some of the same sacrifices as the team does. If a boy is cutting weight you do not your candy bar around him. With that being said being a part of the wrestling team is like a small family yes they fight but almost everyone has your back. If you still want to be a mat maid after reading all the horrendous activities one has to do high five yourself because now it one gets better. Lastly, even though it can be difficult try not to stare too hard at the muscular sweaty guys. Sometimes if you are lucky you get you rub icy hot on their muscles. If you can survive and do all these things then you too can be a wrestling Mat Maid.
RAH! RAH! GO TEAM! This is what most people think of when they hear the word cheerleading. Movies usually give people the impression that cheerleaders are just stuck up blondes that rule the school and cheer at football and basketball games. Although there are still stereotypical cheerleaders just like the ones in movies, cheerleaders are not just on the sidelines anymore. There are now competitive teams who only compete and do not cheer for anything. This is called competitive cheerleading. This type of cheerleading is very different from the cheerleading on the sidelines and is much more athletic. Competitive cheerleading is often underrated because cheerleaders make it look easier than it is. Society should consider competitive cheerleading a sport because it fits the definition, requires incredible strength and endurance, and considering it a sport would help prevent injuries.
Be strong, i’m here for you, why do you feel the need to do this to yourself? Those are some common phrases I hear from day to day. I have always been a happy girl, I have a good family good house and a amazing gymnastics career, but two years ago my life changed forever. Ever since I was a little girl I had always known my goal and pushed myself to the highest levels to get it. My goal was the olympics and there was nothing holding me back or at least that's what I thought.
Going to class everyday without fail, reviewing and completely perfecting the five years of curriculum I had so carefully worked through, to the point where everything was completely automatic, and preparing for the fifty push-up requirement, were not enough. The black-belt test requires creativity through my creation of a personal kata and a self-defense to every attack I had learned. Beyond this, physical endurance and stamina are required in order to spar for ten minutes straight at the end of the four hour test, with a fresh opponent every minute. The black-belt test was the most physically grueling challenge I had ever faced and was much more mentally exhausting than any academic
The gym is a place where a typical American college student goes to work out their bodies. Based on the fact that I personally could be considered a gym rat, a stereotypical name for someone who spends a lot of time in the work out area. This is partially by choice being on the swim team requires the strength training equipment that is available to our disposal in the gym. While I have been to the gym many times I haven’t really taken the time to take in the other people around me. Within this ethnographic exercise I will explore the college gym norms within Roger Williams University.
I'm proud to be a part of this fascinating establishment. Mainstream media be darned! To heck with those who look at professional wrestling through condescending eyes. Think what you will about wrestling fans. Personally, I hold them in the highest regard…and so should you because you never know when you'll happen to run into one.
Of the 258,000 athletes that wrestle in high school, only 7,408 are able to continue their career as a wrestler in college (NCAA 1). 2.7% of wrestlers are faced with multiple adversities from weight gain, to the long seven minutes of nonstop action on the mat. Although the seven minutes go by quick when spectating, when you’re on the mat it seems never ending. A lot of work goes behind one's success on the mat. To be successful in college wrestling one must cut weight efficiently, lift weights, and warm up effectively before every match.
When we first arrived I’d thought we’d taken a wrong turn and went to a traveling gypsy convention by mistake. The whole field outside the school was filled with tents of various sizes and colors. 200 wrestlers, about thirty of which were girls, filtered about the area. As my soon-to-be teammates and I headed to the first practice, anxiety gnawed at my stomach like a dog with a bone (FL). I wanted to impress everybody, and prove that I could make it in this sport. Before we started, the coach patted me on the shoulder. “I’ve got your back all right.” he told me. I smiled and nodded. At least one person was looking out for me.
Fireworks as if it were the fourth of July. Thousands of people in an arena and billions watching around the world anxiously awaiting the arrival of their favorite superstar. Suddenly the crowd erupts as a man comes strutting down to the squared circle. Accompanied by a beautiful busty young woman, the wrestler is cheered by his loyal fans and booed by his enemies. Soon , another man enters the stadium the same way as the first man. The two men stip into the ring with a certain sense of cockiness about themselves. Before the referee can even tell everyone that the match has started, the two men are already battling in the “squared circle';. During the fight there are many suspenseful moments. Brutally beating each other for five minutes the match is finally over with some bloodshed. Today people are taking wwf professional wrestling to the extreme. WWF wrestling is one of the most watched shows on television today. WWF stands for the World Wrestling Federation. In the first 20 seconds of the match, I had the first take-down. I was working crossfaces, cheap tilts, and everything else I knew after my takedown. Then, I did what I do best and gave him a swift, hard crossface and cradeled him up. Squeezing with all my strength and might it took about 7 seconds of him being on his back and he was pinned! It took a total of 55 seconds to pin my first opponent at state.

When becoming apart of the athletic training community I have to have good citizenship skills. I will be given many opportunities to meet new people. Where ever I decided to become an athletic trainer my citizenship skills will help me fit into my new job. I have to become apart of the school and athletic community and make a name for myself so that I can succeed and move onto bigger opportunities.
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, echoes through my head as I walk to the middle of the mat. "At 160lbs Aidan Conner of La Junta vs. Rodney Jones of Hotchkiss." All I can think of is every bead of sweat, every drip of blood, every mile, every push up, every tear. Why? All of this: just to be victorious. All in preparation for one match, six minutes. For some these six minutes may only be a glimpse, and then again for some it may be the biggest six minutes of their life. Many get the chance to experience it more than once. Some may work harder and want it more than others, but they may never get the chance. All they get is a moral victory. Every kid, every man comes into the tournament with a goal. For some is to win, for some is to place, others are just happy to qualify. These six minutes come on a cold frigid night in February at a place called the Pepsi Center. Once a year this gathering takes place when the small and the large, the best of the best, come to compete in front thousands of people. I am at the Colorado State Wrestling Championships.
When I was a Freshman, I was curious about the sport of Wrestling. When I tried out for it, I was eager to learn more about it. In addition into this sport, there are a variety of ways to use these grappling techniques. Wrestling has many rich memories of it is history with a variety of wrestling styles and rules.
