When I was a Freshman, I was curious about the sport of Wrestling. When I tried out for it, I was eager to learn more about it. It is not just rolling around on the mat it is a form of combat using grappling techniques such as throws, takedowns, pins, holds, and joint locks. In addition into this sport, there are a variety of ways to use these grappling techniques. Wrestling has many rich memories of it is history with a variety of wrestling styles and rules.
Wrestling can be traced back to cave drawings during the ancient times. According to one source,”... wrestling has been around since people started to recorded history. In France there are cave drawings of people that are wrestling that are about 15,000 years old. The Egyptian and Babylonian people had wrestling bouts that were using most of the same grappling techniques, and throws that we know today (Wrestling History). The sport of wrestling came from ancient Greece. It was used as an exercise to train Greek soldiers for battle. Ever since then, the sport has changed dramatically (Different).
Wrestling is the oldest competitive sport in recorded history. According to one source,”... they wrestled in the nude covered in olive oil so they can put sand on them for protection from the sun. More wrestling styles than ever before. Some of those styles haven’t changed since they were first thought of, but many of them have their unique set of rules, and moves depending on their location (Different). In ancient Greece, wrestling was a big part of their life, it was a way of art and literature. Wrestling was important to the Greeks, it was the roughest sport in that time period. ...ll” or if he won by having six or more points it’s called a technical fall (“Wrestling Rules”). A “par terre” in greco is when two wrestler get on either top or bottom position. The wrestler on top can lock hands above the waist to turn him on his back. If the top wrestler gets the bottom wrestler on his back then the top wrestler gets two extra points, or if he can hold him on his back for more than five seconds or more, it’s an extra point (“Wrestling Rules”). The bottom wrestler has to stay solid and not get turned on his back. If there were no points score in the par terre then they stop the match and start in a neutral position (“Wrestling Rules”). “Clinch position” is when a top wrestler has both hands and knees on the mat. The referee can fix any adjustments for both wrestlers. The wrestler with the most points gets to be on top position (“Wrestling Rules”).
Picture, if you will, a knight in shining armor charging on his noble steed down the open stretch toward his enemy. From his great helm, (Jousting Helmet) a detachable sleeve whips in the wind at approximately 30 miles per hour. Just before the two knights meet, they each brace themselves for the impact they know awaits them. The wood splinters fly, and one of the knights is knocked from his steed, spilling his life's blood on the ground.
Bullfighting has been a tradition passed along for many years. It is a sport of baiting and killing bulls spectated by the public in an outdoor arena. But how exactly did Bullfighting begin? Bullfighting originated when the first bullfight was held in honor of King Alfonso VIII's coronation in 1133. It was called a corrida back then. These events eventually became popular for celebrating important events and to test the zeal of noblemen. The bullfight first seen at the coronation in 1133 was popularized in 1726 when Francisco Romero started using a cape and weapons during the event. Some older paintings imply that some type of bullfighting existed before 1133. A wall painting in Crete that dates to 2000 B.C. shows men and women grabbing a bull
Professional wrestling is, and will always be, one the premier social, entertaining spectacles in our society. The masked-luchadore, the 500 pound hairball, even the beautiful valets at ringside. The glitz, the glamour, and the spotlight. Every man that steps in the ring knows their duty; to perform in front of capacity crowds while enveloping each fan in the stands with a passion and characteristic of self-worth. The reassurance that even in a world where entropy seems destined to live, the good shall always prevail. The actors and playwrights in the drama explode through the camera using various different techniques or styles, which present each as having a "unique" quality to them. These artistic styles can be classified into one of the following categories: Technical, Lucha Libre or High-Flying, and Ground Grappling.
When we first arrived I’d thought we’d taken a wrong turn and went to a traveling gypsy convention by mistake. The whole field outside the school was filled with tents of various sizes and colors. 200 wrestlers, about thirty of which were girls, filtered about the area. As my soon-to-be teammates and I headed to the first practice, anxiety gnawed at my stomach like a dog with a bone (FL). I wanted to impress everybody, and prove that I could make it in this sport. Before we started, the coach patted me on the shoulder. “I’ve got your back all right.” he told me. I smiled and nodded. At least one person was looking out for me.
The first style of wrestling is Folkstyle. Folkstyle is mainly wrestled in College, High School and Middle School Events, although some kids practice and participate in elementary school. The subject was instructed to get into the correct arm wrestling position, the neutral position, with an opponent before starting the recording. Their arms were placed perpendicular to the tabletop. The participant was instructed to slowly move their arm from the neutral position while pushing the opponent’s hand towards the tabletop as if they were winning, while generating tension in their muscles. The participant and opponent were instructed to rest their forearms on the tabletop and clasp their hands in arm wrestling starting position. The recording was started and the subjects were instructed to begin arm wrestling after starting the recording.

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, CLAP, echoes through my head as I walk to the middle of the mat. "At 160lbs Aidan Conner of La Junta vs. Rodney Jones of Hotchkiss." All I can think of is every bead of sweat, every drip of blood, every mile, every push up, every tear. Why? All of this: just to be victorious. All in preparation for one match, six minutes. For some these six minutes may only be a glimpse, and then again for some it may be the biggest six minutes of their life. Many get the chance to experience it more than once. Some may work harder and want it more than others, but they may never get the chance. All they get is a moral victory. Every kid, every man comes into the tournament with a goal. For some is to win, for some is to place, others are just happy to qualify. These six minutes come on a cold frigid night in February at a place called the Pepsi Center. Once a year this gathering takes place when the small and the large, the best of the best, come to compete in front thousands of people. I am at the Colorado State Wrestling Championships.
The Hotchkiss High School Wrestling room, though bland through out most of the year, transforms during the winter sports season. By itself, the room is nothing. It could be used for many things, but happens to be the perfect size and shape for a wrestling mat to be laid down with a little room on either side. What makes the room so significant is not the shape, size, color or any other dimension. It is the people; the atmosphere during a wrestling practice that makes the room so infamous.

The man who found or created jousting went by the name of Godfrey de Preuilly. He was born and raised in France. In 1066 the first tournament occurred. Preuilly was the one to hold the medieval tournaments. During the time jousting was created, there was a battle between the English and the Normans. The battle between the two was called ‘The Battle of Hastings.’ The Normans won the battle against the English. They believed they won because of their Feudal System, or in other words they works out their problems.
Bowling is one of the world’s oldest and most popular games. It is said that bowling dates all the way back to 3200 B.C. During the 1930s, Sir Flinders Petrie, a British anthropologist, found a collection of objects in a child's grave in Egypt that appeared to be used for a crude and embryonic form of bowling. All of the bowling balls and pins were all sized for a child. Balls were made using husks, covered in material similar to leather, and bound together with string. Other balls, some made of made of porcelain or even plastic have even been found, saying that these were rolled onto the ground instead of them being thrown due to their size and weight. This, along with a few more artifacts were dated back to 3200 B. C., which basically makes the origin of bowling around 5000 years old. Some stuff was also found in Germany by a historian named William Phele. Phele said
