What is “willed not learning” and how does it differ from the inability to learn? Willed learners need to be empowered from their own passion, and they need to have a substantial voice in their learning, which generates self-determination to succeed when their voice is truly heard. They learn by their choices, for them it is to lead, and not to be led by others. It generates trust, love, kindness and respect when a learner can express how they want to learn, and they are not prevented from learning in the manner they selected, but supported with trust, respect, love, caring, and kindness. It is personal learning, which is something instilled, willed by us, not a personalized learning which is selected for us. The responsibility of how one learns is largely their choice of how to learn, with assistance. The will to learn like young children wants to walk, talk, eat, or dress on their own. It is self-determination to succeed, and it is the self-determination within us, which drives us forward with our own interests. There are multiple ways of learning, and teaching is only one of them, we learn a great deal on our own through examples, …show more content…
Allowing any students to select and learn about their own or another’s ethnic background from African-American, Hispanic, and Mexican-American to mention a few from the film, Precious Knowledge. It teaches students to understand a certain culture, to know where they come from, to reflect, reconcile, and take action, positive action. It is educational, and keeps students in school because they are interested in learning about this culture, and their community. This recognizes the increasing diversity of cultures within a community, yet the disadvantage of it, is that it portrays to some that it is a selective ethnicity group teaching or grouping of heritage teaching (Precious Knowledge
Dweck also promotes that a lesson can be something that can something creative that its only purpose is to develop a growth mindset in students. These creative methods can be something so simple as playing a video and followed by class discussion to group discussion about their own thoughts/meanings or a simple game of “Memory” in order to engage students to learn in a fun
In the play Doubt, by John Patrick Shanly, Sister Aloysius is treating Father Flynn unfairly. Sister Aloysius is the principal of St. Nichols School, who is suspicious and always doubt everyone, especially Father Flynn. She thinks that Father Flynn is guilty, but has no proof. Sister Aloysius doesn’t like Father Flynn in the school and his ideas. She treats him unfairly. Sister Aloysius treats Father Flynn unfairly when she still accuses Father Flynn of giving the altar wine to Donald Muller after Father Flynn tells her the truth. She treats him unfairly by forcing him to request the transfer without proving if Father Flynn is guilty or not and also makes him resign by lying about his past.
When looking at the main point of “Precious Knowledge”, one must consider teaching strategies that deal with “difference” in the classroom. A difference that was extremely prevalent in “Precious Knowledge”, was dealing with different races/ethnicities and cultures within the class room and outside of the classroom. A teaching method that I think is good at dealing with different races
Success rates of students will increase with the implementation of ethnic studies courses in schools. In the movie precious knowledge, the dropout rate for students was 50%. When their ethnic studies course was added the gradation rate of the students enrolled was 93%. In these ethnic studies classes the method of teaching isn 't the normal banking
“A teacher who establishes rapport with the taught, becomes one with them, learns more from them than he teaches them. He who learns nothing from his disciples is, in my opinion, worthless. Whenever I talk with someone I learn from him. I take from him more than I give him. In this way, a true teacher regards himself as a student of his students. If you will teach your pupils with this attitude, you will benefit much from them.” - Mahatma Gandhi
“In its broadest meaning, ’self-directed learning’ describes a process by which individuals take the initiative, with our without the assistance of others, in diagnosing their learning needs, formulating learning goals, identify human and material resources for learning, choosing and implement appropriate learning strategies, and evaluating learning outcomes.” (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2011, p. 18)
Self-concept of the learner- Adult learners are naturally self- directed which means they will take ownership of what and how to learn and how to manage their time and learning.
In order to understand the functional relationship between learning and memory we have to first define what both learning and memory are. Learning can be described as “the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, practice, or study, or by being taught” (Merriam-Webster, 2014). “Memory is the means by which we draw on our past experiences in order to use this information in the present” (Sternberg, 1999). Base on this definitions one can conclude memory is essential part of our lives. Without any memory of the past, we would not be able to operate in the present or reminisce about the future. We would not be able to remember what we did a few days ago, what we have accomplished today, or what we intend to do tomorrow. Without memory our ability to learn would not exist. Learning and Memory are linked to our cognitive abilities as well as that of animals. An example that can be used to show the relationship between learning and memory is the study of how a rat behaves in a maze. As we all know rats have been used in experimental mazes since at least the early 20th century. Hundreds if not thousands of studies have looked at how rats run different types of mazes, from T-maze, to radial arm mazes, and to water mazes. These maze studies help scientist study spatial learning and memory in rats. Maze studies helped us uncover general principles about learning that can be applied to several species, including mankind. In today’s modern societies, mazes tend to be used to determine whether different treatments affect learning and memory in rats. According to Kolata al, 2005 case study the tasks that comprise the learning battery were specifically chosen so that each one placed specific sensory, motor, motivational, and info...
learners who lack autonomy are capable of developing learning appropriate conditions and preparation. The ways in which we organize the practice of teaching and learning have an important influence on the development of autonomy among our learners.
Socrates, a famous philosopher, once said, “I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think.” This quote is interesting in the fact that in modern times it is mandatory to go to school for a certain length of time to be taught in order to learn. We have teachers that share their knowledge with their students so that the generations to come can continue to grow and develop. When a student is asked what their teachers do at school they will most likely respond with something along the lines of, “they teach.” This response is both true and false to an extent. While the teachers can provide their students with knowledge, it is important for the students to do their part by using their minds to understand it for themselves. Socrates

This report aims at exploring the conception of self-managed learning in the background of a higher education as well as the various benefits it yields to higher education students. The report has incorporated relevant and reliable investigation with the aim of creating a comprehensive image of the various aspects of self-managed learning and its benefits to higher education students. Whereas the various benefits of self-managed learning to higher education students have been acknowledged, the manner in which they can be affectively acquired are poorly understood.
Simple approaches and flexible means are the key to effective learning. Monotony and regimentalized fashion of learning is usually not recommended for the growing minds to ensure that the minds remain open and accept more stimuli from the surroundings.
