How would you feel if school had a shorter school week? Well, tons of schools have already made this a reality over the past century, especially during tough times. Over 1,600 schools in 24 states have made the normal five-day week to a four-day week. Most people who don't have this would love it, but to others they would prefer to keep the normal five day school week. The school weeks should not be shorter because of the longer school days, Jess time to do other activities inside of school, and because less school days result in doing worse on standardized tests. Staying up all night is what may have to happen in order to finish homework. This can also make students possibly fall asleep during school, which is bad for learning, and doing tests. Secondly, school weeks should not be shortened because students have less time to do activities outside of school. In the section "Finding Balance" it states, "a day at school usually involves more than learning how to solve equations and write essays. There may also be physical education, electives like theater and robotics, face-to-face time with peers, and access to free meals. With one fewer day at school, students can miss out on these things-and that can be detrimental*. This is significant because if students don't have much time to do face-to-face with peers, that could be bad for students' mental health. Which affects how we think, feel, and even act, not having that face-to-face time with peers may cause these students to think, feel, and act differently.
