Many people believe that in order to have an equitable relationship you need to share anything and everything. Every task should be equal to another task; and both the people in the relationship should have an equal amount of tasks. When this occurs that is how they know it is equitable. But the real question is: is it healthy to have a completely equitable relationship or is it better to have a relationship that is a little inequitable? The difference between having a relationship that is equitable and a relationship that is considered inequitable is not always bad. You do not need a relationship to be perfect and many believe that by having one that is completely perfect is the one best way. In order to have equity you need to make mistakes and have conflict. Conflict is not always a bad thing either, it allows for human beings to be able to express their feelings and then hopefully they are able to work the problem or problems out together. Conflict can help two people in a relationship to make things equal between the rewards and the costs. You can not make a relationship one hundred percent equal. You can make it doable, but you can not make it equal. When we overvalue our own inputs and undervalue the inputs of others it causes us to see that the relationship is inequitable and it may cause for conflict. This conflict is only caused because the two are seeking for things between them to be equal. If we reevaluate the situation and figure what tasks each like to do then we can make a relationship that is practically equal, but this does not happen overnight.
