Why I Want To Pursue Attending College

As college students make their way throughout courses and terms, it is helpful and beneficial for individuals to know what motivates them. These motivations help guide students through years of coursework all the way to graduation day. Knowing these motivations may be not sufficient, because they are forgotten over time. It is better to write down these motivations before he or she cannot remember why they should continue attending college. A written plan is also helpful during times of struggle and loss of motivation. However, what motivates a student to keep going and to make a plan to stay motivated does not mean much until he or she has the initial motivation to get to college.

The first benefit is the Associate’s Degree you earn for your job. All the technical training and professional military education completed is applied toward my Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) associate’s degree. This degree is directly related to the military job I do every day. All I had to do was take four extra general education classes to earn my Associate’s Degree. The second benefit is Military Tuition Assistance for a Bachelor’s Degree. This is money the Department of Defense pays the college so I can get a bachelor's degree with little or no out-of-pocket costs. During my time, I meet two kinds of people: those who love their job and those who loved their job. Those who love their job are in their mid to late 20’s. Those who loved their job were in their 40’s. I asked people why they either liked or disliked their job. Those who were in their 20’s love the fact they were not behind a desk and how physical the job is. Those in their 40’s loved the physical aspect when they were younger, however, now they are older they wish they were behind a desk. As a mechanic, the job I preform everyday is physically demanding. I wear steel-toed boots while standing on concrete eight or more hours a day. I could be pushing or pulling the heavy equipment or parts, or turning wrenches. By the end of the day my feet, knees, legs and back are sore; furthermore, I have aches waking up the next day. As I get older, I realize my body will not be able to keep up with such a physically demanding job until retirement. This is another reason why I started my education and keeps me going to
