I'd like to be involved in UIC's Honors College in order to share my passion for learning, as well as to be challenged and to expand my knowledge as an academic. I believe I'd be a good fit for Honors College because I value academic involvement, and with the college, I'm provided with many involvement opportunities. For example, I'd like to involve myself in The Red Shoes Review because of my background in both photography and journalism. Not only would I love to submit my photography, but I also believe I would be a great editor, as I edit for my high school's quarterly magazine. I believe that honors-specific arts publications allow for an artistic community that also values academics, which is an overlap not often found. From my experience as the president of my school's art club, I've seen the value of creative-minded students working collaboratively, and wish to continue that experience through college by involving myself in honors-specific artistic organizations. …show more content…
Additionally, I'd like to be involved in the honors society of Phi Eta Sigma.
I've previously been involved in honors societies, like Mu Alpha Theta, a mathematics honors society for high school and community college students. Phi Eta Sigma's dedication towards mutual understanding and respect for various fields is especially enticing, as I wish to study both economics and sociology. One of my favorite aspects of honors societies is the continuation of learning through service, namely tutoring. Through Mu Alpha Theta, I've had the opportunity to tutor many students. Because of my love for learning and spreading information, I wish to lend my hand in helping by
tutoring. Further, UIC's Honors College would provide me with exciting and enriching opportunities that I may not otherwise be able to pursue. For example, as an honors college student, I'd like to be involved in undergraduate research as an assistant or, hopefully, leading research, which the Undergraduate Research Experience would allow me to do. I'm excited to involve myself in research because it enriches my education, as well as the education of anyone learning about my research. Further, the Capstone project would allow me to consolidate my academic research by writing and presenting my findings with other students, as well as professionals in the field. I believe that I'd be a great fit for UIC's Honor's College because of my love for academic involvement and enriching the education of myself and others. More importantly, however, I believe the Honors College would be a good fit for me because it provides me with more opportunities for the aforementioned involvement and enrichment.
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
My experiences with tutoring others has taught me that it satisfies me to help others understand and learn. As you teach others you learn about the different ways you handle situations and solve issues as well. I’ve always been the person that my classmates come up to for help, but it wasn’t till grade 10 until I officially started tutoring math, mainly Pre-Calculus 12. In grade 11, I continued tutoring, but this time I focused on a single individual, and that brought up challenges of creating a suitable relationship, that becomes the foundation for effective learning. This year, I took on a challenge, my teacher asked me to be a mentor towards a student with learning disabilities who was struggling with school. I
“Leadership, dreams, scholarships, service, pride and character”, the first words that come to mind when I hear “National Honor Society”. Being chosen for National Honor Society is a great honor, as it has proved that from my childhood till now my hard work has paid off. From the beginning of high school, as a freshman to now a junior, I have always pushed myself to do better, but not better than others, better than myself. I had competition with myself and my past grades, as I emboldened myself to do better than each of my past marking period grades. I heartened myself to get stronger grades, because since the day I found out in freshman year that there was National Honor Society I was determined to get in. The day of my sister’s graduation
It is a cliché to say that I don’t know what I want to become in the future but in my case, after attending to Lone Star College, my plan for the future straightened out. How did an educational experience help me in college? Why did I attend Lone Star College and how has it benefitted me now? Well, I will tell you why I made the best decision attending Lone Star College and how that has directed me in the path I am at today.
Some would say this is just because they’re the people I have to spend the majority of my time with, but that isn’t true. I love spending time with people who willingly form study groups and have strong interests in academic subjects. Even if I’m just going to Panera to hang out with someone, I usually end up learning something new or teaching. In college, I want to continue to surround myself with the type of people who read about Middle Eastern relations or write computer codes in their free time. Residing in Toscanini College will allow me to continue surrounding myself with fellow lovers of learning both inside and outside of my classes. I’d love to participate in a Pizza and Game Night or see a Broadway show with friends through the unique opportunities the Honors College has to offer. While the Honors College courses will allow me to be intellectually stimulated in school, the social activities offered will allow this intellectual stimulation to extend to the world
Visiting Indiana University for the first time made my heart melt. The atmosphere, people, and academics have all interested me. I want the hands-on experience that IU is able to provide. My academics
As a student in Greater Lawrence Technical school my ultimate goal was to become a member of National Honors Society. From the very start I knew I had the potential to become who I wanted to be. Being seen as a person who can be National honors society member has made me so happy and realize I can really go for more in life! They sky's the limit. I always had honor roll and wanted to push myself for more than what I knew I could do. I asked teachers and guidance counselors how to get into NHS and if they believed I was eligible for National Honor Society. They said with your outstanding character, motivation and dedication to help others is how!
Liberty University is my dream school because of its solid Biblical foundation, opportunities for students, and excellent educational program. I have found all three of these qualities in my interaction with the university. I truly sense that Liberty wants what is best for its students both inside and outside of the classroom. In short, Liberty is my dream school because of its heart. The Honors Program at Liberty furthers my respect for Liberty by challenging its students and providing them with opportunities to succeed. Being accepted into the Liberty Honors Program would mean many things to me including preparing me for my future and giving me the chance to become a Champion for Christ. It would challenge and provide me with a close-knit Christian community, new growth opportunities, and a balance amidst the wide variety of new experiences. Being accepted into the Honors Program would further enable me to pursue and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
The CSU Honors Program would overall help me to achieve academically well and would help keep me motivated through my college years. My unique school experiences would bring different ideas to this community and would over all help me be the best CSU student that I can possibly
Meanwhile, I would transfer to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. Once I start the school year, I am going to surround myself with young people, who are motivated, caring and determined, too successful in their academics as well as their personal lives. I want to strengthen my communication skills, study harder, and improve my time management skills. And maintain myself there to obtain my Bachelor Science Degree and can go deeper and higher level status in my career field. I choose to apply to this Honors Program, because I like to be challenged and I work hard for what I want to
This experience will encourage honor students to get out into the community and help a cause or group which in return will have many benefits for us. For one, the required experience will help you reach out to the community and possibly help you make new friends. Another benefit would be the many skills you obtain from volunteering such as communication or dependability skills. Lastly, the experiential learning experience could possibly help us by advancing us within our major or future career by finding connections around the
Helping others to learn has been an important activity throughout my life. Whether the person was a friend or a peer, I always took pleasure in assisting others to learn an idea or a concept. Tutoring is a learning method that requires a knowledgeable person who can explain a concept to a less-experienced person. I want to become a peer tutor for the LEAP Scholars Program because I desire to assist incoming students in their first college courses in an effective and helpful manner. With my academic record, experiences with tutoring, and unique skill set and traits, I strongly believe that I will be an excellent tutor.
What has been the most fulfilling or rewarding experience you have had as a college student? If applicable, how did the Honors College facilitate or enhance that experience? *
Tutoring is an important aspect of learning and has given me the opportunity to make a difference in a classmate's education. The strain of balancing school, extracurriculars and tutoring has given me a glimpse of how I will handle the numerous commitments my future holds for me. Knowing that I can succeed at school and at work has given me the confidence and self-reliance to pursue biomedical
