Long story short, let me be honest and say that the longer essay stapled to the back of this one is the one I wrote first, because I read the instructions wrong. I thought I would attach that paper also and turn it in, since I took the time to write it, and finished it before realizing it was not what you were looking for. It does, however, relate to this paper, because in this paper I will (indirectly) give the reasons why I wanted to write that paper in the first place.
Essays are not just the standard five paragraphs and then done style that was taught to students in grade school. The article “The Sixth Paragraph: A Re-Vision of the Essay” by Paul Lynch, explains quiet well how essays are typically taught and why. It is basically because it is easy to grade and even easier to write. Even when talking about writing or giving an example to a person it’s quite typical to start using the five paragraph format. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. While these four ideals are present in all members I believe that I withhold these characteristics, as well as numerous others, which qualifies me as an ideal scholar and member of the National Honor Society. These assets are not adequately portrayed in my application, but are equally important to scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
National Junior Honor Society as a nation premier organization started to recognize outstanding middle-level students. NJHS is a way to honor students who have demonstrated an extraordinary amount of excellence in the areas of the five pillars which are, scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. This organization that was started in 1929 is a great opportunity for me to show my family and teachers how hard I work to get this far. The strengths in my writing are my organizational skills, grammatical construct, and my work ethic. Organizing an essay is a very natural process for me. I always follow the basic guidelines for the structure of an essay, which state that one must have an introduction, thesis statement, body, conclusion, and a works cited when needed. The “Are Helicopter Parents Entering the No Fly Zone?” essay, “Animal Cloning—How Unethical Is It?” essay, and the “The Clean Water Act—Is it Successfully Reducing Water Pollution?” essay all have a proper introduction, an informative thesis statement, a body, great conclusions, and works cited pages. Formatting the essays is an integral aspect of organizational skills. Each new paragraph is indented, the font is twelve-point Times New Roman, the sentences are double spaced, and the headers are correct.
The four pillars of the prestigious National Honor Society demonstrate the traits I hope to continually develop: as a scholar, a leader, a volunteer and a person of strong moral fiber. I believe myself to be mature and motivated; I have an unyielding commitment to scholarship and intend to make a difference in the lives of everyone around me. The prospect of becoming a member has prompted me to take a look upon what I wish to accomplish as a part of this organization. By becoming an active participant, my goal is to enrich my school experience by means of volunteering in the community, serving as a role model for my peers, and fostering pride for our school.
Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. I am so grateful and excited to have the chance to be a part of the National Honors Society.
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I have become today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made. I think the sense of maturity I have developed throughout my life has given me the determination to be the best person I can be. That being said, I would love to be inducted into the National Honor Society and not only represent our school, but represent our generation to the community not as a “selfie” generation but as a generation, with great potential.
The Vietnam War was a brutal war for everyone involved. There were many American and Vietnam deaths alike. The U.S went into Vietnam with the goal of preventing the spread of communism. The authors of the secondary sources in Thinking Through the Past, George Herring and Loren Baritz argue why the U.S failed in Vietnam. According to those two articles, there were many causes for why the U.S failed in the Vietnam War, including our lack of plan, our over confidence in our capabilities, and fighting a war with little support from our people. After analysis of both of the articles, class lectures, and reading The American Promise, it is clear that the main cause that led our failure was not understanding the Vietnamese and being too confident in ourselves, which led to the underestimation of the capabilities of the North Vietnamese and the ultimate failure of the war.

For these courses to be successful, the students as well as the professor must be on board and on the same page. To define an ideal Honors Course will help the student get on track with the Honors curriculum. One must first define an honors course for themselves, identify the objectives and to identify the possible outcomes one wishes to achieve. For me personally, I'm a math guy, and I would like to do higher level work to help develop ideas that may help all of the people in the math world and
