In general, I want to join the nation’s greatest organization. The US Army is considerably the most well respected institutions this nation has to offer. The honor of literally joining the ranks of so many great men and women is extremely important to me as an individual. I want to serve this country any way I can and becoming an Army Officer is definitely one way I can contribute. Giving back to the country that has brought me such an incredible life is something that I sincerely believe to be the most important aspect in my drive to become an officer. I believe that that defending the right to freedom and happiness in a safe country like the one I grew up in, is the main reason I want to serve my country and become an officer. My second reason is that this is one of very few organizations that builds an individual’s character. There is no other place an individual can go to gain the experience and mentorship of becoming a leader. This not only improves the individual’s chances of succeeding in the military but ultimately creates a more intellectual civilian. There are few businesses that have men and women that work as efficiently and effectively than those who have had the training and experience of not only officer training but also the Army as a whole. As I progress through my military career and my civilian career, I know that I’ll be a step ahead than 99% of anyone who is either looking or is advancing in their
The Sergeant Audie Murphy Club has always been defined by the professionalism, dedication, and expertise of its members. For 32 years the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club has been a beacon of light amongst the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps, showcasing its finest members and providing purpose and direction to the NCO Corps and the Army as a whole. Only the brightest and most dedicated are selected to join its ranks. As a matter of personal and professional pride, I aspire to become a member of this prestigious club because it signifies to others that I am the best and the brightest the NCO corps has to offer, it sets the example for others to follow, and is a challenge that I except and expect to learn and grow from. I understand the induction is
Introduction According to the Oxford Dictionary, a leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2013). Though there is a definition for what a leader is, people still have different ideas about what a leader should be and how he or she should act. There has never been a concrete idea of what a leader is; the only thing we know is that this person is the one in charge of the unit. We look at characteristics of those people we see as leaders and use those attributes to compare other people to see if they are able to be as good as, or even better than, those aforementioned leaders. We have to keep in mind that in different situations, leaders must do different tasks which indicates the need for different qualities.
My journey into the Air Force was one that started off as a business transaction which transformed into one of duty, honor, and service. I have had the distinctive honor of leading joint forces to search for downed aircrew and leading multinational forces to increase combat capability on the Republic of Korea. I know that I am a part of the Air Force lethal force and am prepared to answer my nations calling in any way required.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
USMA eliminates the debt that comes with going to college. The only debt I want to be in is the debt I owe to my country. I also believe that I will grow to understand the Army values more than ever before. I am willing to do whatever it takes to become an officer and I want to do it at the best place possible. I wrote a check worth up to my life swearing in and I want to make that check worth it. Going to USMA will help me pursue my career in the army at the finest and be the best soldier I can be by allowing me to train every day for 4 years to become the best officer I can be. I also want to be able to say proudly that I went to West Point and be a part of West Point’s alumni. One of the biggest reasons I want to go to West Point is because it allows me to start my future the way I want to. It will prepare me to do so by setting me up to persevere as leader and guarantee that I will be an active duty officer in the Army. That is crucial because I want to be a full time soldier; I want my abilities as a soldier, my character traits as well as my leadership to speak volumes about myself and more importantly about what the education at USMA does for its
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
As becoming an officer in the military, there are abounding roles and positions that will be expected of all officers to perform. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Leadership is something that is heavily prevalent in the workforce and in the world today. Being a leader, in my opinion, takes someone (or a group of people) who is willing and able to lead a few or many people. Not every leader though is successful or leads in a positive way. There definitely exists both good and bad leadership. Many leaders fail while many achieve extraordinary milestones. But everyone, not just leaders, have their pitfalls and rough patches in life. I know that I myself have some weaknesses as a leader, and that is what I want to take some time to reflect on.
It has always been my dream to become an officer in the military ever since I was young. My uncle was in the military and loved it, he always told me stories about it and how much he enjoyed it. Growing up hearing his stories and seeing his uniform made me want to do it one day. Well, for me that one day is here now and I am proud to put on that uniform and call myself a soldier. I have always been a leader in my family, my community, and in my life in general. I like to not just be in charge but, I like to inspire those around me. I enjoy setting the example for those around me to follow.
"A leader is an individual (or, rarely, a set of individuals) who significantly affects the thoughts, feelings, and/or behaviors of a significant number of individuals” (Gardner, Howard 2012). An essential part of a leader lies in their ability to motivate and influence people to follow their lead. Leaders are both men and women who have the ability to influence others in a community, control situations, connect with others and persuade others to follow them or the goals they define. To be a good leader one must set a good example and make correct decisions for difficult choices. I myself am implementing leadership skills into my every day life. Leadership skills are all around us. They can be applied to any situation where one may be required to take the lead. This can be
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
