Imagine spending hours on an important homework assignment due as soon as you walk into class the next day, and then go in to find students that were absent have an unlimited amount of time to complete it. Students should not be allowed an unlimited amount of time to make up or complete missing assignments because it is unfair to other students, a management issue for teachers, and is a necessary life skill to be able to get work done on time. If students that were absent from school were allowed unlimited time to complete their work, then it would be incredibly unfair to other students. If a student is given a day to complete an assignment, then it should be no different for any other student that receives the same assignment, whether they were absent or not. Students consistently put in the effort to do their work and get it turned in on time, so …show more content…
It would be impossible for a teacher to be able to keep up with work if one student turns it in, then three weeks later, five other students turn the same assignment in. It will also become more difficult for teachers to manage which students need more assistance due to the varying times assignments are being received. The management issues caused by students having unlimited time to turn in incomplete assignments would not be worth it in the long run. In life, there are always going to be deadlines. Being able to get work or assignments done before a deadline is an essential skill for everyone to have, even for adults. Therefore, it is necessary for students to learn to handle deadlines now. If students are given an unlimited amount of time to complete assignments, then they will struggle with their future jobs. This also becomes an issue if a student wishes to go to college. College professors and bosses will not be lenient with deadlines, so having them now will assist students in the
A schedule of a student becomes very tight as they need to balance everything out in all ways they can. For example, this year due to me taking a College Now class I have needed to compromise my entire schedule, donating another hour of my life into school. Through the past years of high school my classes started at 8:00 AM, however, now my classes start at 7:00 AM. Along with this class I have regents based classes which I manage such as Physics, English, and U.S. History, yet I take Pre-Calc this year. As a student, I always hear other students around the school complaining about the amount of work they have to do, however, they don’t realize that this work is what leads to their future success. For me complaining is not a valid excuse, as I certainly believe that there should be a deadline for everything because we can manage everything as long as we are determined. A person like me, who receives an assignment, which may be due in the next two weeks will manage their time out and complete it in the next two days, thinking that what if I have more things to do. Throughout all the school years that I have attended, there has not been one assignment that I didn’t complete or didn’t hand it in on time. Where I come from and the teachings of my parents, have taught me that family time and family are two significant parts of your life, which no matter what happens
In a homework assignment i did for intro to law i had to ask a student what rule they wanted to change and a lot of students overheard about 15 and said the tardy policy because it takes away from are learning. This tardy Policy affects everyone. Some students that know that they will be late rather not show up because they rather not get the 30 min detention. As a student many classmates have done this , they like school but they don't want to serve a detention during or after school. Teachers are instructed to close the doors as soon as the bells ring and if you don't make it on time that's your “fault” , then what happens is you'll just stay outside of class waiting till the staff pass by to sweep you up and take you to your
Keeping an updated calendar or agenda keep students aware of when an assignment is due. Students can set due dates on the calendar in their phone. If the student does not have or is not allowed to have electronics they can purchase an agenda or calendar for cheap. Some schools supply students with an agenda to make sure they keep up with due dates on major assignments and other work. If students are involved in any extracurricular activities, they should set certain times and dates on when to complete an assignment. It is important to know how to balance out of school activities with school work. Starting their work early and getting ahead is another way students can manage their time to finish the assignment. As soon as students is assigned the assignment they should get started right away. Friends and family members can also help remind one when his or her assignment is almost due, so it is completed on time. When procrastinating one do not learn to discipline themselves therefore their work suffers, and the student get stressed out. Not being able to manage your time can be stressful and can cause students to not want to fully complete their assignment. Procrastination can also cause students to get less sleep than
Do you know the reason why every student dreads the last five minutes of class more than the other seventy? No? Well, it’s quite obvious really; this is the time when homework is assigned. So why does this simple 8-letter word fill us with dread? Simple, if there was ever a more disastrous invention than the American atomic bomb it was homework. This may be defined as work specifically created to be done in the home to keep students from enjoying life outside of school. Hence, I think that it should only be assigned by a teacher in the event that it is no longer possible for students to learn in the classroom. This is further supported by the limited guidance, stress, and time constraints encountered at home.
...th mounds of work to be completed at home. It is unfair to expect students to pick up the slack for teachers who are not doing their jobs. Although homework can be used as a tool to reinforce, more often than not teachers are not using it this way, and in fact they are abusing this tool and it should be banned all together.
In high school teachers are continually reminding students when assignments are due. However, this is not the case in college. Students are responsible for managing their time. If during the four years students are in high school teachers start to give the students more responsibility than when they get to college they will not be overwhelmed by all the things they have to do on their own. In addition, this would also help because when you are a freshman you are just getting to know the school and you are basically throw into all new territory. On the other hand, I also think a student needs a support system during
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain uses Huck Finn’s point of view to tell this classic coming of age story. Twain chose this instead of Jim’s point of view or that of an omniscient narrator so as to make his statement on the society that he lived in more palatable, at first, and eventually more shocking and condemning. Like The book’s predecessor, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn was originally supposed to be light hearted fun, in which a Huck Finn, a naive but clever boy, goes on a daring, sometimes comical, adventure. However, after a four year hiatus from the novel, Twain began to write a much darker and profound story; he pushes the boundaries and shows the inner struggles of a young, white boy over the humanity of
This is true because neither the teachers nor the students are able to fully focus on their work, causing a lack of concentration. An absence of productivity leads to even bigger problems. When the students aren’t listening or participating, the teacher has to spend even more time re-teaching the material at a later time. This throws the teacher off-schedule and prohibits them from covering all of the material they need to by the end of the semester. Students also have a harder time reaching deadlines if they are unable to cover all of the necessary material in class, forcing the teacher to push back the due dates to an even later date.
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
Teachers have a set number of days to get through everything required by the state to their students. They already take time out of their
The problem with deadlines is that, even if you have enough time to do the task today, you'll procrastinate it for the next 2-3 days, because that's where the deadline ends for that task. What if you had to do something more important after 2-3 days? Sooner or later more demands will come, and what you could have done 2 days ago, would have been eliminating some of the burden
College is a new beginning for all incoming freshmen. From homecoming to parties, different activities can steer students away from completing any tasks or goals they may have. The absence of time management skills can potentially become the catalyst to other problematic issues like procrastination, stress, and academic struggles. Missing deadlines is a product of not having time management skills. In a related entry from The Missed Deadline: Whose Problem is it?, “Why don’t people realize how important deadlines are? Don’t they realize the impact of these actions on
Students should not fail a course because of other students distracting which is an important reason why the long term assignment grading system should not be used. Some people believe that long term assignment grading systems will be more fun for the students. They also believe that it will benefit students with social skills. Both of these statements are very true and beneficial to the students. However, school are meant to give an education to help students with their future career and only partly helps social situations.
What if you were running really late for school on a day that you had a huge test? What if you forgot to do your homework from the night before? What if the huge pile of homework was worth a big portion of your grade? That doesn't sound like a situation you want to be in. It is very important that students learn how to budget their time wisely because then they can have time for themselves, complete important tasks on time, and be organized.
This will make accomplishing assignments less demanding. When an assignment is less demanding it makes procrastination impossible. Some students get overwhelmed with the amount of homework they have. When a student decides how much time to spend on each section of the assignment it makes getting the assignment done a lot easier. Once it is decided how long to work for, students should schedule when to take a break and for how long. Getting to the break may seem like an accomplishment in itself. When a student assigns a portion of the assignment to do each day it will break the assignment down and grant more time to work on the assignment. It will also take the stress off of doing the assignment all at once. Students should get the hardest sections out of the way first because this will make finishing the rest of the assignment more
