Procrastination is a common problem with students. Students wait closer and closer to the due date to complete an assignment. Procrastinating is something that everyone has done at one point in his or her lives. All students such as elementary students, middle school students, high school students, and college students procrastinate. Students have many reasons why they seem to procrastinate. The reasons for procrastinating are simple such as students being too lazy to complete their work. Procrastination is a problem because students may not get their work done in time. Keeping an updated calendar or agenda keep students aware of when an assignment is due. Students can set due dates on the calendar in their phone. If the student does not have or is not allowed to have electronics they can purchase an agenda or calendar for cheap. Some schools supply students with an agenda to make sure they keep up with due dates on major assignments and other work. If students are involved in any extracurricular activities, they should set certain times and dates on when to complete an assignment. It is important to know how to balance out of school activities with school work. Starting their work early and getting ahead is another way students can manage their time to finish the assignment. As soon as students is assigned the assignment they should get started right away. Friends and family members can also help remind one when his or her assignment is almost due, so it is completed on time. Have you ever heard friends or family members brag about how productive they were that day, or week, or month? Those people really bother me. And it's because I can never get anything done; it takes me a long time to accomplish the simplest tasks. I pride myself in being a grade A procrastinator. My three specific examples will help anyone perfect the arts of wasting time and procrastination. Then you can brag about how extremely unproductive you were today.
According to Rebecca Klein from the Huffington Post, “Approximately 87 percent of [the 13,000 polled students] said they procrastinate on school assignments.” Many of which spend their time on social media and watching television (Huffington Post). Procrastinating is the action of delaying or postponing any action and similarly, a college student defines it as putting off an assignment until the very last possible moment to complete it. As a result of procrastination, students often pull all nighters in order to finish their assignment, which then causes a massive amount of preventable stress. Additionally, the quality of the work may not reach its full potential and will result in a lower grade because of the lack of time that was allotted, which also could have been preventable. Due to this, students may potentially fail because they will experience difficulty in keeping up with their school work. Procrastination stems from the bad habit of being lazy, but much like any other habit, it is extremely difficult to break out of it because of how accustomed students grow into it over time. The definition of procrastination according to Solomon & Rothblum is the determined delay of the start or completion of a task (1984). Procrastinators will also differ from those who do not procrastinate in numerous ways. An example would be that procrastinators often fear failure, strive for perfection, may be slightly pessimistic and more anxious, which may become worse when they realize they are procrastinating (McCown & Johnson, 1991) or when deadlines are approaching (Tice & Baumeister, 1997). The personal and realistic problems that result from dysfunctional procrastination are predominantly acute in academics, as the inclination to put off school-related tasks often result in challenging levels of stress (Solomon & Rothblum 1984), on the whole the end of the academic semester would be the peak (Tice & Baumeister, 1997).
Do you ever wonder why you choose not to do something until the last minute? Sure you have! It has happened to everyone. I mostly believe that there are negative attributes to procrastination, more so than good attributes. Traits of adjourning include how rewarding a task may seem, affecting how hard a person will work on it, and laziness. Some may see procrastination as healthy, such as active procrastination. Although good effects appear from procrastinating, stress is a larger effect. Stress causes a few illnesses. Procrastination is a bad thing that generally occurs in everyone when short-term benefits are the only outcome people see.

I agree with everything he says in his speech because I can connect with every piece of evidence he claims, mostly including that there is a “Panic Monster” that pops up in your brain when you are close to a deadline and haven’t gotten anything done, especially when it comes from why I’m always so stressed out about school. It is therefore, vital for the students to realize the actual root causes of poor time management and arrest the same in good time. Some of the stated causes include: lack of prioritizing tasks, lack of setting personal goals, failing to manage distractions, procrastination, multitasking and last but not least in effective scheduling of tasks.
After spending three hours perusing the internet on articles about procrastination and time management, with two of those hours spent looking at planners, apps, and other various materials that theoretically will help me stop procrastinating, I suppose it is time to actually start writing my paper about procrastinating. I’ve fallen into the learned habit that I work best under pressure; however, the process of procrastination is always laced with acute anxiety and hassle, even if I ultimately finish the assignment on time. I am on a journey to find out why people procrastinate and hopefully find attainable solutions to the problem of procrastination, but first I must go outside and play in the snow.

Managing our time helps us to be less stressed about having to complete a lot of assignments. Time management is something I am getting better at. For example, I am getting all of my assignments out of the way so I can use my time wisely for other tasks. In addition, I keep an agenda book to keep a log of my assignments, and I have a calendar to keep track of due dates of my assignments and other events. It is important to manage your time to be an independent learner so you have time to relax.
When it comes to our personal and professional lives, Managing your time efficiently should be a mastered ability. As a student, this could have a huge effect on performance and grades. Seeing that Time Management is imperative when it comes to college and success, recognizing bad habits, should be one of the first obstructions immediately eliminated from your daily schedule. Create new habits if you tend to procrastinate and start planning ahead to manage your most important priorities. According to David Allen (2001),"Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" (p.59) "changes in the way you clarify and organize all things that command your attention-could represent a significant shift in how you approach some key aspects of your day to day work." Setting up deadlines and completing your assignments a few days before the due date will eliminate the procrastination stage. Creating a list with the most important priorities first, will help sort out your assignments and eliminate stress and feeling overwhelmed.
In order to function effectively, they have to perform the required work efficiently. They should be conscious of the time and strictly follow the deadlines.
