Our daycare includes flexibility to all parents and infants as needed under these different circumstances. Moving onto “ freedom of speech” which starts with language for our infants.

The effect is need in both environments for the child to excel beyond the point of children without this opportunity.

My first observation was at Head Start. I talked to Tracey Claflin about some of the principles they use in their program and how they use them. I wasn’t able to observe the children directly because my TB skin test results came up positive. Tracey explained to me that because my results were positive I couldn’t meet children or be in the same room as the children. Due to this, I had to make some arrangements to instead speak with Tracey about some principles she has seen and that they follow. I met with her for an hour discussing the principles and how they were used in the Head Start program. One of the principles she said was highly important for Head Start was principle number 2. She explained that when there is enough time and opportunities to spend time with a child individually the caregiver puts full attention on one child. She explained that they like to focus attention on a child throughout the day so that the child doesn’t feel left out. She says that alone time for a child with a caregiver is usually tummy time. They allow the infants and toddlers to roll around and look at the carpet designs. Tracey explained to me how they asses each child through this quality time that the caregiver and the child have alone. This quality time the caregiver has with the child is important,
I am a firm believer that the quality of the child care directly affects the child’s development in the classroom. By eliminating the need for competing preschools to continue to improve their curriculum and to remain relevant in the field of early childhood education, we risk falling into the same trap K-12 education has fallen into. Young children always see their parents and teachers as role models. The way the parents and childcare workers act and react is how children will learn to do. Hence, whatever their role models say and do is reflected in how they will think about the world in future. As the greatest imitators are children, being a good role model is important in proper child development. Secondly, a childcare worker should always be a good listener to help in proper development of the children. Children should be always encouraged to talk whenever they come with some questions. However, what might sound silly to an adult, to a child is actually a very sincere question which needs to be correctly answered. If you develop open lines of communication with a child at an early age, then as they grow older, chances are these good habit will continue to grow. Giving the child the importance they deserve is another element of child development. Further, a childcare worker should enjoying nature together with children. Hence, teaching children to respect others as well as nature will make them treat the world as their own. Children in families with lower incomes at or below the poverty line have been connected with poor cognitive and social development in early childhood. The studies that I chose to use evaluate the cognitive and social development during early childhood using various surveys, evaluations, and observations completed by or with the children, parents, and teachers. Development of any kind is dependent on the interplay of nature and nurture, or genetics and environment. These studies draw from a child’s environment during the earliest years of development, specifically birth, pre-school, and early elementary school. The studies propose living in an impoverished environment as opposed to an environment above the poverty line imposes certain restrictions on cognitive and social development during early childhood.
The environment in supporting speech, language and communication development is very important because you need the children’s perspective in mind. For example: areas should be available to the children inside and outside. The staff must have an area where the noise is reduced and there are less distractions so that the child is able to concentrate. There should be enough light in the room for both to see clearly so it isn’t too dark for them to see the work or your facial expressions. This is important if the child has a hearing impairment. The rooms should not have too much stuff and isn’t cluttered so that it doesn’t distract the pupils. As early as the first nine months of age, low-income infants score much lower than higher-income infants, on the measures on cognitive and social-emotional development. By twenty-four months, the early learning gap will at least double. Children, that come from low income households, are exposed to less words and lack access to cognitively stimulating materials and experiences in their homes. Stress caused by economic poverty and violence can lead to severe, abusive, disconnected, or careless parenting. Also, the household income gap, by educational attainment, is increasing. There has also been a growing educational achievement gap, by family income, for children. To reduce poverty and increase opportunity, Americans must answer the question of how to reduce the growing gap in educational achievement between children that come from wealthy families, compared to children that come from poor families. These are four recommendations, on how to attack this gap issue: One, an increase in public investment in two underfunded stages of education, which includes preschool and postsecondary. Secondly, educate children to promote social-emotional as well as academic skills. Thirdly, the education system must have major reforms and become modernized. Lastly, the government must shrink resource gaps to reduce education gaps. A normal day for a daycare facility is to have many classrooms full of students like a typical public school; however, they are younger children and are being supervised by an adult. That adult is responsible for, on average, four to ten students at any given time, ages ranging from zero to six. During that time, a lot can happen. These busy workers have many responsibilities throughout the day. The most important one is safety. Because these children are so young, they are also adventurous therefore need a lot of attention. Daycare workers have to spend much time supervising these children while performing other tasks throughout the day. Not only do children need to be supervised to be safe, but they also need to have a safe, clean and presentable environment that the daycare workers of the facility are to maintain. One way to keep things clean is to sanitize, in which is a big task of these workers. Children are always putting things in their mouth and then passing it off to other kids; therefore, sanitation is a big deal in these types of facilities. Another responsibility that daycare providers have are to enforce rules. When rules are broken, these providers are to then enforce discipline policies. These can sometimes become an issue seeing that these providers are not the parents of the children thus they have to consult with the parents on certain discipline techniques to use on specific children. It is common knowledge that a parent is considered the most efficient caregiver for their children. It’s also known that with daily responsibilities of caring for a child financially, parents partake in full-time and/or part-time employment. While needing to do so, many children attend daycare/preschool facilities. Granted, it is the parent’s responsibility to cautiously select where they decide to take their children. This is because parents know that while they are away for numerous hours of the day, their children are in the hands of another care provider and that their care would have an enormous impact on their children. At a young age, a child’s social and cognitive skills are continuing to take shape and the amount of time spent in these facilities has a resilient impact on a child’s development. With proper and superior care no matter the time spent, such positive effects on a child’s development should endure in a child’s cognitive and social development. Research has proven that the early years in childhood is a critical period for opportunity to develop a child’s full potential; as well as form academic, social, and cognitive skills that determine not only success in school but also their entire life (The White House). The right to a free, public education is guaranteed to all children in the United States. Early education is voluntary, and therefore some children are not given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Approximately 60% of mothers who have children in kindergarten work outside of their home. Full day kindergarten would provide programs that would accommodate to the average families and child care needs. Society will benefit from students in full time kindergarten because it feeds knowledge for the workers of the future. As well, low income families tend to see a delay in child development and learning. Poverty is known to cause troubles in early development and academic learning in children. A study in 2014 showed that students of low income in full day kindergarten benefit greatly. Full day kindergarten works on compensating these changes at an early age.
