Throughout history, there have been great leaders: civil rights leaders, business leaders, and spiritual leaders who have inspired millions. Leaders and visionaries such as John Lennon or Martin Luther King Jr. fought for unity, love, and made an impact on people through their speeches or songs. Watching these great men touch the hearts of millions has brought out a desire for me to become a C.E.O. and an important leader in the life of others. Not only do leaders have knowledge in politics, in emotional values, and spread a certain message or “vision” to their followers or co-workers, but they have certain special characteristics which make them great leaders or heroes. So, what makes these people different from you and me? Could it be that they are better looking? Perhaps they speak in parables or give great speeches? People have often said to me that a good leader is a person who guides both physically and mentally. Going to the job shadowing program has given me an opportunity to broaden my view on how efficient and effective a good leader can be in the work place. Something that has been shown to me in my many interviews with the board of directors has been that every leader must have the capability to have integrity, listen, a vision, and must be responsible.
I see leadership as a daunting challenge in a school. There are so many factors to consider and how each decision affects so many different aspects of the school environment. I know I need practice in presenting my vision and mission to a staff and being an effective leader to get a community to follow my lead.
Our leadership in this world has changed and affected us greatly. Leadership is being about to lead an organization with many people and to have control in the right way. “ The Leader of the Future” a book by Peter F. Drucker gives us information on why and how it is to be such a great leader. We need better leaders and we need them to guide us and help us along the way. Without leadership, our world would be in such danger and we America would be going through a lot.
What makes a good leader? It depends. Most organizations look for individuals that have something to offer when they look at credentials or a great interview but looks can be deceiving does a good manager necessarily mean that a good leader I do not think so.
Being a leader means being responsible for any outcome that occurs in a situation. If your team fails then you fail: vice versa is your team receives a victory. Not many individuals understands what it takes to be a leader. Being a leader means putting your needs asides and putting the team first. Being a leader is knowing how to make a decision even if not everyone agrees. Prior to just naming yourself as a leader, there is a foundation one must have and stepping stones that one must tackle on in order to mold an individual into a leader.
. A job well done is the goal of every Coast Guardsman. We seldom agree on how that goal is best achieved and we have different levels of motivation for achieving the goal in a given timeframe but we all still feel good when we get there. A good leader knows that he must work with the tools he has. The tools in this case being the personnel he is leading. Every unit is different and every unit is staffed with a unique crew of individuals which all have their own strengths and weaknesses, skills and personalities. A good leader will quickly recognize the self starters and those who require more direction; those who work well alone and those who work best in a team. A good leader also understands that everyone has value and its okay if some have more value than others. Nothing in life is fair and some members are going to work harder than others. Unfortunately, in my career, I have had more poor leaders than good
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
Taking a test that shows you how you learn and some recommended teachers you should have.
Robbins (1997) defines managers as those who are all oversee the activities of other people with the purpose of accomplishing organizational goals. Therefore, in order to provide organizations with the best outcome, effective managers are urgently needed for modern organization. This is simply because, according to Hunsaker (2001), that the increasing recognition is given to the importance of having managers with strong interpersonal skills rather than, that twenty years ago, managers were only valued primarily for their technical know-how.
I come to class everyday prepared and invested in our learning community. I come to class prepared by reading the assigned reading, reviewing the module of the week, have my computer and materials needed to be successful, and making sure I am rested and ready to engage with the class. I am invested in our learning community by listening intently to my peers and instructor, effetely communicating my thoughts and opinions on subjects with my peers, I make sure to be up to date on the material so that I can effectively be a part of the class, I do not text or go on any social media during class instruction, and try to always be part of the
One of the biggest factors that affect student engagement has to do with the behavior and engagement of the teacher. Students model their behavior and enthusiasm, largely after the person leading the class (Csizer & Dornyei,1998). This means that how organized, attentive, and engaged students are, is a direct reflection of the teacher and their organization, attentiveness, and engagement. Presenting material in the clearest and most effective way while conveying the concepts that you are teaching properly can be a big motivating factor for students (Csizer & Dornyei,1998). If the teacher is vague, unclear, and disorganized, students are going to lose motivation and might become anxious and confused.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
An Effective and Responsible Professor of Mathematics An effective and responsible leader faces many challenges, and knows how to conquer them all to achieve success, but what makes an effective and responsible leader? There are many characteristics an effective leader needs to be successful, and most of them revolve around the four frames structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. Seeking to develop my knowledge of leadership, I researched leadership in higher education. I investigated a position of leadership in higher education, and I had the opportunity to interview three wonderful women.
I will ask myself what am I going to study today? Do I have bring along all the materials that I need in the class? Read about the topic that will be learnt today. While in the class, I will concentrate on listening to my lecturer. I will also take note and jot down the useful information. If I don’t understand something about it, I will ask for guidance from my lecturer or friends. After the end of the class, I will summarise the information and the note that I had study just now. And also do the revision immediately, because the memory of us is very short, we should review it so as not to forget it. Repeat an action and new information will be take it. If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll always get what you’ve
Another benefit is feedback affords an opportunity for clarification of what is expected. Student performance and achievement increases as they are able to understand the expectations for the specified task or project. This process also helps alleviate frustrations one may feel when unsure of the criteria for quality performance. Feedback also helps students identify strengths and weaknesses in various content arenas. Effective feedback from the teacher assists in student identification of the level of which they are performing as compared to the desired goal.
