I. Introduction
Education is the basis of the modern world with it becoming standardized in all first world countries. With the Information Age, society has begun to adapt and engross technology into their daily lives. The technology has begun a way of life for the younger generations and has changed the way they communicate and learn. With this in mind, much of education in public schools in the United States have not changed in correlation with the Information Age. The rate at which information students can absorb is significantly less, causing a slump in their education. The solution to this is a change in the education system and integration of technology into all aspects of education in order for the young generations to excel.

Modern technology allows for the customization of education for every student. It allows students to refresh what they may have missed without having to inquire with the teacher which may be more comfortable for the student. Students have changed so much that a teacher claims that, “I’m tap dancing all over the place... The more I stand in class, the easier it is to lose them.” when asked about how their current classroom is (McKnight). Students today are able to communicate with email and other basic means of contact, but there is a chance in the future that the educator may even be able to interact with students live and show them through 3D/Holograms. While this is speculation of future technologies, the implementation of current technologies is crucial. These advances need to be introduced as stepping stones so that teachers are not jumping for mountains. The ability to transfer the teachings in classrooms to the real world is a lot easier as material can be connected to media most of the time. Students are able to see real world applications without having to actually experience and know the purpose of the material that they are learning (Richlet). Studies on the effects of technology have become so prevalent that due to the heavy technology use, “[technology] makes reality by comparison, uninteresting” which says a lot about how vital …show more content…
But due to the elongated Information Age, the effects of technology can be examined (Selwyn). The pattern in which technology grows is also quite similar in different time periods. From a different perspective, it is important to note that not enough time has passed to really analyze the effects of the internet, one of the largest driving forces of technology. Some examples of old technology can date all the way back to the 1600s when printed text began to appear. Blackboards and whiteboards began to appear in the mid-1800s which may not seem to be ‘technological’ is still advancements and changes to the classroom (Selwyn). A time where technology has failed in the classroom is back in the 1950s, a school in Michigan used educational film in the classroom in order to educate their students. It was quite apparent that they were not having a major positive impact on their education and was soon expulsed (Selwyn). Even before the films, was the enthusiastic movement of educational radio. It enticed a large amount of educators but in the end also ended up failing. More recently, in the 1980s was the movement of educational television which still continues today. This however also found itself abandoned in the classroom. These historical event could have a serious impact on why schools and districts today do not budge on assigning their budget to technological advances. There is
devices in almost every classroom. Technology enhances learning, boosts confidence, and eliminates geographical limitations. Technology enriches learning by being able to come in different forms and do different things. "For lessons traditionally done with a paper and pencil, we now were able to do them in color, with animation, and with more depth and complexity"(McCollum). Teachers are now able to help stu...

Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
In an age of rapid change due to so many technology and innovative advances, a revolutionary change in the educational system is as vital as what our next energy source is. Education is the most powerful wealth in the world and it demands more attention, and where better to start with than out youth. The school system will soon go out of date due to the information highway and information availability if there isn?t a dramatic change in the way things are run in our domestic institutional facilities. The reason why college was such a success in the 20th century was because books were all of a sudden available to students on university campus. Now with internet, a student could specialize their profession solely with the computer with the click of a button. Something needs to be done to smoothen the rigid gaps and cracks in the school system before the technological pace at which we are advancing decides to bring the whole thing down.
Technology is Changing Education The best method for improving educational standards is to utilize every tool available, including state-of-the-art technology. Computers and the Internet have expanded the way in which education can be delivered to the students of today. Today's networking technologies provide a valuable opportunity to the practice of learning techniques. Educators are discovering that computers and multi-based educational tools are facilitating learning and enhancing social interaction. Computer based telecommunications can offer enormous instructional opportunities, but educators will need to adapt current lesson plan to incorporate this new medium into all the classrooms.
Furthermore, the learning process is easily enhanced when technology is used. First, with Internet access in each classroom, it allows the teacher to access massive amounts of information in just a few seconds. This information can be given to the students in a clear, easy to read format as it is projected onto the screen. With such easy access to information, students are able to learn more in a smaller time span, while teachers are able to be more efficient in how they teach. This makes the education a person gets from their school more valuable for their money; and money is important as college costs continue to rise.
There is no doubt that the accomplishments made through technology are astonishing. Technology has made amazing impacts on everything from science in space to medical science to the devices we use every day that make our lives easier. People are living longer and better than ever before, but we can’t forget how to live without it. “Just because technology is there and makes something easier doesn’t mean we should rely on it so much that we can’t think for ourselves,” (Levinson).
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
Technology affects every aspect of our lives. From romance to business, it has shown its presence everywhere. But technology has had a huge impact on education that cannot be denied, and has done nothing but improve the quality and quantity of education.
Education, no doubt, has been benefited by communication and information technologies in various levels. From both the sociological and economic points of view, communication and information...

In conclusion, technology has changed education for the better allowing access to unlimited resources, distance learning and broadening the means of communication. Technology creates a more encouraging environment and stimulates students to engage in something they may be familiar with. Technology has allowed people to know more and to collaborate with each other. Students have a great range of technologies which strengthens the relationship between knowledge and students. The technology used today throughout the world will only strengthen and advance the 21st century education system. With unlimited resources, students can take advantage of their learning and gain the most from it. Integrating technology into education promotes a better learning community.
Technology is not always bad. With careful planning and patience, teachers and the school can make its usage a learning progress and it will be beneficial in the long run. It is useful in providing more knowledge to our students and also on making them competitive in the job market, as it will also be technology based. Upgrading technology and using it more in the classroom will help the advancement of public education. It will give not only students, but also the teachers and other employees’ added knowledge to a greater learning
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
