Cellphones, television, and computers are just three of the most popular ways that we communicate in today. They have made a substantial impact on the United States simply by being readily available and easy to use. People are often discussing how technology has impacted us. Many believe that technology is actually hindering society rather than helping it. Then there are those who doubt technology has made our social interactions better. Certainly, this is true; without the advances in technology, our level of social interaction in education, businesses, and relationships would diminish. Education is important, so it would only make sense that technology would have a huge part in it. When children are born, they are placed into a world that is driven by technology. Parents are now using iPads and cellphones to allow their children to get a head start on learning. Now, by the time children are of age to attend school, they are exceedingly prepared to incorporate technology in their education. With this being said, educational institutions must help students get ready to work in a society that encompasses an extensive amount of technology. According to Sean McCollum, “a handful of school districts…are adapting their use to serve the curriculum.” Many schools are now using whiteboards, laptops, tablets, Smartphones and other devices in almost every classroom. Technology enhances learning, boosts confidence, and eliminates geographical limitations. Technology enriches learning by being able to come in different forms and do different things. People spend more time staring at their phone than they do at each other. ANALYSIS Chris Morris’s “Is technology killing the human touch?” The purpose of this article is to inform that people spend more time on social networks than with family and friends. The author gives an example of how technology changes our behavior “that can impact communication, relationships and our day-to-day interactions with others” (Morris).
Where ever you live and whatever grade you teach, technology has made it into the lives of teachers and students. Whether it is an ebook, laptop, iPad, computer, or Smartboard, they all have brought teaching literacy to a new level. These tools are not going to leave our classrooms, if anything they will impact the learning at new and higher levels. There will come a day, and I think it will be soon, that every student will have access to their own technology devices at school and at home. As teachers, we need to embrace technology and try and stay ahead of our students if possible.
The topic of technology and our society has become a very controversial subject today. Many people believe that technology is an essential component of our modern world, helping us to improve communication from farther distances as well as giving us easy access to important information. On the other hand, there is the opinion that too much technology is affecting social interactions and our basic development. “Technology…is a queer thing, it brings you great gifts with one hand, and stabs you in the back with the other.” (Carrie Snow.) The CBC Documentary “Are We Digital Dummies” displayed the pros and cons when it comes to modern technology that we use in the western world everyday.
Technology has changed our world dramatically over the last several decades. Several generations before us did not have air conditioning, telephones, television much less internet. However, today we have access to all of this and more. Technological advances have not only made changes in how we communicate, but also in how everyday tasks are done. The New York Times explains how social media affects children’s behavior and academics, and how the concept of dating has been altered while Louis C. K. explains how the 21st century takes little things for granted and YouTube channel charstarlineTV shows how daily activities can no longer be done without the use of cellphones.
...ss social. Our amount of social skills has gone way down over the years. The lawyers and doctors do not have as high of education and the way they interact is not as good. When we talk through messages, it causes conflict resolution, which causes war. What has this world come to, so many kids bring their cell phones to school which distracts them from learning. It is up to the parents to teach their kids the importance of using face to face communication. We cannot back down; limit the amount of electronics they use. We need to make the world more educated with our social skills. If we do not we will begin to rely just on electronics. Connecting through electronic media will never be a satisfactory replacement. “No amount of texting, or blogging or Facebook is as satisfying as a walk in the park with a good friend. Why? Because it is simply our nature” (Stitch 3).
As we look around whether it be on the busy and congested streets of Los Angeles or the streets of a small town with very little movement, you see people with their heads down. Its not that their looking at the ground but on cell phones. In this technologically advanced society people converse with their fingers rather then opening their mouth, tapping away to the flow of their thoughts. This is modern society as we see it today. Technological innovations have made it possible to communicate or just plainly research for information from small to large projects one might have in the comfort of ones own home or office. All this is possible through social networking, texting, email, internet and instant messaging. The greatest part of all is face to face interactions aren’t necessary, voice based communication has almost seized to exist, so less time is wasted . Even thought Technology has made it possible to stay in touch with loved one and friends on the other side of the spectrum. One might think that no negative effects could come of this as its all positive and good for humanity as a whole. But their has been a growing concern that as people continue to spend extended amount of hours in the digital world, theirs been a decline in social skills among them.
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
It’s still in relative infancy and progress will continue to move forward making better systems. Teachers will still retain control over learning. The school of 10 years ago looks very different from schools today. Also, students are being inundated with technology at a very young age. The transition has already begun. Education of the future will be delivered with current information delivered through traditional teaching methods and fantastic technological tools. With technology by the teachers’ side, the learning environment is an overjoyed place. Using technology in the classroom helps improve student engagement. It keeps students interested in what’s happening, and as a result students learn more. Today’s students have grown up with technology. Students expect to use technology when they get to school, so schools who embrace that expectation have a better chance of connecting with their students. Students are excited about being able to use technology and therefore are more apt to learn. When mobile technology is readily available in the classroom, students are able to access the most up-to-date information quicker and easier than ever before. There are more ways now than ever, to communicate with the people we know (Baym 1). Although communicating with others through a technology is now easier than ever, it is making interacting with other humans more limited. Little did people know that technology can impact the way humans interact with each other. While listening to music and playing games on their mobile devices, how many people actually get to know one another while standing right next to each other? A small ride on a metro or bus ride will show you just how little interaction goes on in a humans life do to the amount of use on their mobile devices. While waiting for the next class to start or even during the class, people tune out the rest of the world and this can lead up to social isolation. Technology has had a bad impact on the way humans socialize because it causes people to be less interactive. Social isolation is a health condition that can become very severe and lead up to depression, anxiety, despair and many other things. Social isolation can be avoided if technology is limited to use at only appropriate times as when bored, alone or incase of an emergency you would use cell phones.

People can't go a few hours let alone a whole day without checking their emails, social media, text messages and other networking tools. We have now become a society that is almost completely dependent on our technology to communicate. While technology can be helpful by making communication faster and easier, but when it becomes our main form of conversation it becomes harmful to our communication and social skills. Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips.
