Technology has rapidly changed over the years and has expanded our infrastructure greatly. In particular, as technology advances the education system adapts to the many changes. The world of technology brings about many new improvements and shows no sign of slowing down. Many people spend their day to day lives utilizing the great aspects of technology doing almost anything imaginable. Through technology teachers and students can connect and expound upon the many fields of education. Technology is an ever growing aid in education that has increased awareness, communication, and accessibility. How is technology shaping education? The uses of mobile devices and applications have shown a great influence in the education system. Technology has allowed students, teachers, and parents to access unlimited resources instantly. The ease of access to school services and materials helps students in many ways. Redd makes a good point stating that “Many of these mobile devices are characterized as miniature classroom computers that allow students to partake in the ‘anytime, anywhere’ learning movement” (30). Students today use all types of electronic devices to do the unimaginable. The internet is a portal for students to connect to everything around the world giving them instantaneous access to resources. Imagine going throughout a day without the aid of technology, it detracts the learning process and limits accessibility. Students find it easier to access coursework, “Some said they were reluctant to use mobile phone functions such as SMS texting and information downloads for course-related activities” (Moule 61). Technology is always being implicated through day to day life situations. Student’s instantaneous access to unlimited resources... ... middle of paper ... ...). A better learning community results in great learning experience and ultimately an encouraging atmosphere. In conclusion, technology has changed education for the better allowing access to unlimited resources, distance learning and broadening the means of communication. Technology creates a more encouraging environment and stimulates students to engage in something they may be familiar with. Technology has allowed people to know more and to collaborate with each other. Students have a great range of technologies which strengthens the relationship between knowledge and students. The technology used today throughout the world will only strengthen and advance the 21st century education system. With unlimited resources, students can take advantage of their learning and gain the most from it. Integrating technology into education promotes a better learning community.
With the use of smart phones students are also able to research just about anything with the tap of a button. According to the NLCATP, most schools that allow cell phones to have internet access restricted to avoid abuses and students had to sign a contract saying they will be responsible with the usage (“11 Critical Pros and Cons of Cell Phone Use in School”). The use of internet is both a benefit to students and teachers and it is only more convenient when the source is in the hand of the student. So, instead of rejecting this amazingly, transformed technology, we need to embrace
When parents send their children to school, they are trusting that their children are being taught everything they need to know to prepare them for the future. Parents are trusting that their children are being given every opportunity to explore every avenue of learning. With times changing rapidly, along with society turning more and more to technology, children have to be taught at an early age how to use and technology to remain current in today’s world. Technology is the direction our world is heading toward and relying on more and more each day. In the classroom, students have to be interested in what they are learning, as well as how they are learning. Cell phones should be incorporated into the school curriculum to give students another avenue of learning with the convenience of mobile devices. Most times, when it comes to technology, children tend to become very engaged and pay more attention to what is shown to them visually, rather than just listening to a teacher talk to them or reading a book. Due to the world evolving and technology being a prominent source of survival, incorporating cell phone usage in our school’s curriculum will not only engage students with a new way of learning, it will prepare students for the world outside of school as well as their future.
Educators must discover whether devices, such as cell phones, in the classroom are distractions or aids. According to Deborah R. Tindell and Robert W. Bohlander, “Some argue that cell phones have no place in a classroom setting and others argue that cell phones should be allowed both for safety reasons and as an instructional aid” (Tindell and Bohlander 1). In this spectrum of absolutes, each teacher must evaluate the goals of his or her own class to determine the possibility of whether to encourage or discourage the use of cell phones in the classroom. “One concern involves the distraction caused by the use of cell phones during class” (Tindell and Bohlander 2) However, Prensky argues that “…cell phones complement the short-burst, casual, multitasking style of today’s ‘Digital Native’ learners” (182). He goes on to say that “Using cell phones as learning devices, whether in or out of school, requires a good deal of rethinking and flexibility on the part of the educators” (182). In the English classroom, it is difficult to see where cell phones fit into the puzzle. If a teacher decides to allow cell phones, they should aid learning and not hinder it. Among Prensky’s suggestions on how to implement cell phones, one sticks out as helpful to English teachers: the cell phone camera. Students can use their cell phone cameras as “…tools for scientific data collection, documentation, and visual journalism…” (Prensky 186). Students could use video journalism in particular to learn multimedia literacy. However, teachers should only allow cell phones at certain times to avoid texting in class, or playing
Technology is growing every day. We use technology for everything we do, sometimes without even thinking about it. In our world, these advancements are used for communicating, entertainment, and education as well as others. Since technology is so ingrained into our lives, how much we use and depend on it is often not thought about. Our education system is on the front end of using new technology in classrooms. More and more class room and teachers are weaving it into their lesson plans and making it more available for students to use in the classroom. Technology is changing the way students are educated in America and across the world. In this paper I will discuss several ways that this can be seen and improved.
First, technology is an inevitable tendency in the world. People always research to invent the new device are more comfortable and beauty than the old one. Now, we live in a modern world with modern technology; the new trend usually replaces the old one. Technology is a basic need of people; even each student also has at least one device in their lives, such as cellphone, laptop, camera, and mp3 players (Frey 38). In addition, people want not only one or two devices but also more and more. People use technology in every time and everywhere: working, studying, and relaxing. That is not deniable the benefits of technology, so they appear in all aspects lives. It is clear that the governments and schools should allow student to use technology when they are studying. Certainly, students cannot use technology for personal reason, but they must use these devices to help their studying. According to Frey people realize that more important thing is teaching their students use technology appropriately than banning modern devices out off s...
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
Educational technology continues to advance making learning a different experience for students. “Educational technology includes all real, analog, and digital technologies and media that can be used to support teaching and learning (Lever-Duffy, McDonald, & Mizell, 2003, p. 2)”. When the writer was attending grade school in the 90’s educational technology was nothing compared to how it is now. The technology then was minimal; it was not until the writer got to fifth/sixth grade when students would take AR (Accelerated Reader) quizzes on the computer to move up a reading level. That was the early kind of educational technology and now the advances have been immense.
Technology enables students and teachers to have a fast and easy way to acquire unlimited access to tons of information. With all of the useful technologies, the curriculum is bound to change in endless ways, creating more opportunity for learning.
Technology has had a negative impact on education by causing distractions during class lectures and assignments. The over use of technology is leading to a loss in communication skills and troubles in reading. The use of technology causes many people to have the temptation for cheating in and out of classrooms, resulting in students not wanting to study. Not every student has the capability of connecting to the internet or have contact to technology. This creates difficulties for those students without connection to the internet to complete online assignments or have accesses to their school’s resources. Also, for online courses, students have to wait for an email response in order to get help or to understand a lecture that the professor is
In the classrooms today, teachers are integrating more modern technology devices on a daily basis, such as iPad 's, laptops and interactive overheads. Textbooks, paper and pencils are slowly becoming obsolete in the educational systems. Technology can inhibit students from learning and can seriously affect their academic performance. In an article, “The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child,” it spoke about how technology is impacting the development of children today. It stated: “The impact of rapidly advancing technology on the developing child has seen an increase of physical, psychological and behavior disorders that the health and education systems are just beginning to detect, much less understand (Rowan).” The schools should be able to use technology in some capacity, but not in place of teaching
One may ask of how much of an impact that technology has on the development of students or why it may be needed in the classroom. For starters, technology flat out makes kids smarter. Now I am not say that simply placing a child in front of computer screen will increase their literacy, mathematical skills, or scientific capacity, but a properly structured computer or other technological program dealing with any of the subjects of study will have a greater positive impact on the learning of all students than the traditional teaching methods alone. Even so, how does technology make kids smarter? Well first of all, technology can refine the skills of teachers through further education, give them access to new and interesting concepts, a better unders...
Technology, either in form or gadgets in form of media or internet, if used properly can make big differences to make education learning far better than its current standards. Technology helps you in making things easier; everything is under your finger tips. It saves your time, you can more in less time, a finish a book you need hours or may be days, search the same thing on internet you fin results in just a fraction of second.
Technology has had a huge impact on education. It continues to shape the way we learn and what we learn today and in the future. As technology advances, so does the quality of education and that is nothing but good news for the students of today and of the future.
In this modern era, the rapid growth of science and technology has resulted in many beneficial tools for the society. Computers are now widely used by people of all stages of life and more and more people are becoming computer literate compared to a decade ago. This is because now computer are so convenient that with just a click on the mouse we can get almost every information we need Now most homes in the world, especially in the developed countries, are equipped with at least one computer. This further proves the fact that computers are becoming a large part of life today. Both government and private sectors are using computers in various fields but most importantly in the education field.
Technology has many different effects on education, one of them being enhancing the students learning. Technology may enhance the students learning and may assist most students in achieving their academic standards. When technology and appropriate teaching methods are combined, technology may increase the academic achievement. Positive effects have been found in all major subject areas, from preschool to higher education, both regular and special needs students. Educational technology has been found to have a positive effect on a student’s attitude toward learning and on self-concepts. The introduction of technology into the learning environment has allowed the learning to be more student-centered, to encourage group learning, and helps to stimulate an increase in the student-teacher interaction. Technology has shown a shift from a focus on a student’s memorization to their problem solving. Through technology’s use, learning opportunities have become unrestricted by time or place, allowing lifelong learning. Student use of technology through communications can also help to enhance access to a career and continued education. Students are more likely to use a computer to get help because they can to it themselves. Technology is helping students to become independent.
