The week’s blog focuses on operating in the realm of the prophetic anointing. In this “right-now” culture, the ability to bring forth a prophecy is the most coveted position within the body of Christ. However, before one can properly use the prophetic anointing to help others, he or she must have a clear understanding of what it means to be a prophet. The Office of A Prophet vs. The Gift of Prophecy The office of the prophet is permanent and is a gift that is place in a person before birth (Lecture, Module 5.1.3). proof: Jeremiah 1:5 (KJV) - Before I formed then in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. The gift of prophecy is temporary in nature and is a gift of grace. When someone is endowed with the gift of prophecy, the prophetic anointing will rest on a person and allow them to speak and utterance from the Lord (Lecture, Module 5.1.3). …show more content…
In both cases, the prophetic anointing serves two primary purposes. It is used to build up of the body of Christ according to Ephesians 4:12 as well as edify, exhort and console men according to 1 Corinthians 14:3. In addition to this, because the words of the prophet are fallible, according to 1 Corinthians 14:29, the prophet’s words must be judged by others (Lecture, Module
A most interesting film detailing the history and role of the prophet in the Jewish tradition. The first question we must explore is what a prophet is. A prophet by definition is a person who speaks by divine inspiration. Others will say that a prophet is one whose eye is open. A person who can see things that others cannot. In order to understand the prophets and their appearance in history we must first understand the politics of the times.
Theologian Vern S. Poythress wrote, “Theological systems, whether dispensationalist, covenantal, Calvinist, Arminian, or even modernist, have a profound influence on the way we approach a given [biblical] text.” There is no portion of scripture that is more influenced by the theological system of dispensationalist than that of biblical prophecy, particularly in the area of God’s redemptive plan from for humanity. The purpose of this essay is to establish that an appropriate understanding of biblical eschatology can best be achieved through a dispensational theological perspective.
The image of knowing and consecrating are related to each other, pointing to agriculture making a parallel of Jeremiah as a dead seed buried in the earth and Yahweh watching over him and knowing him as the pillar of cloud as mentioned in the Old Testament. Since Yahweh was the cloud, when it rained, the water sank deep in the Earth, immersing the dead seed in water, inviting the seed to burst forth because of the smell of the rain, (Isaiah 60 and 61) thus baptizing him with full immersion and consecrating him as a prophet. On another note, using the image of construction, it can be argued that while Jeremiah was taking shape in his mother’s womb, he was as an embryo surrounded by the water and received his consecration which on a literal level, was immersed in water, and was present in the midst of that as God knowing and choosing him and, never abandoning him. Using the words of Rev. Paul Wenz, it can be concluded that “formed you” in verse 5 is yazar in Hebrew has a connotation with “God’s creative

Before a discussion on the various groups can take place, a general survey of the gifts mentioned in Scripture and their original purpose is required. Every theologian has his or her own system of grouping the gifts together, but for this paper, the grouping used by the Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible will be the primary group system. The Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible groups the spiritual gifts into four different lists: gifts of revelation, gifts of healing and power, gifts of leadership, and gifts of service. Gifts of service are gifts that are given by God but are also manifested through direct acts. Because of the nature of these gifts, it is safe to assume that all groups found in Christianity agree upon these gifts and their usage for today. This group of gifts involves ...
There are many prophets and important figures in the Bible that stand out as being influential and necessary when it comes to the words God gave them. For instance, the prophet Amos is unique for his honest and brutal relaying of Yahweh’s message to the Israelites. The major theme of this prophecy was directed toward the northern kingdom of Israel. Yahweh gave Amos this message directly in order for Amos to inform the rich of their sins of moral injustice towards the poor. For this, it is important to understand who Amos was and the context of his book that put forth the message of Yahweh.
According to Max Dublins THE POWER OF PROPHECY, He seems to want to give a feeling that prophecy is all in the listeners mind and that Prophets are mostly very manipulative people and can influence people greatly. I tend to agree with this to some degree.
The prophet acts as a vehicle so G-d does not have to personally intervene. They
When Jesus asked his disciples about what people thought about him, they answered that some considered Jesus to be e prophet, some - John the Baptist. But Jesus wanted his disciples to understand his mission, the reason why God brought him to Earth. That is why it was important for him to make sure that people realize who he is and that his sayings are vital for the whole mankind. Jesus was the Messiah, the anointed one, above all other prophets. He was sent to suffer for the all human beings and the reasons why his suffering was necessary are described in Mark's Gospel 8:27-9:1.

(Isaiah 9:6) "For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, the prince of peace.
Jesus’ healing ministry constructed a profound theological statement to Israel, similar to his selection of the twelve apostles and his eating with sinners. God’s promise one day to establish his kingdom and renew his people visible and available in preview to any who witnessed his deeds of the teacher from Nazareth.
The prophet Isaiah lived during a very troublesome era during the years 742-701B.C.E. He preached during the reigns of four kings of Judah: Uzziah (783-742), Jotham (742-735), Ahaz (735-715), and Hezekiah (715-687). Judah faced many challenges and crises throughout those years primarily at the hands of the Assyrian Empire. Isaih interpreted the events as part of the Lord's will, and he encourages the people to trust in the Lord rather than relying on political alliances.
Let us start with this statement: I believe that new preachers and new people to the Christian Faith try hard to avoid the Old Testament. If they do, they only look at one section and struggle to connect all the pieces together. One of the issues that makes people uncomfortable is the prophets. First, there is a definite volume of them, and then they are divided into “major” and “minor.” I think at the core of our hearts, we are trying to understand the difference among the different biblical prophets.
