Volleyball is my passion. I dedicate so much of my life to that sport, and sometimes, I wonder why. Then, I step onto the court. When I play, my insecurities and doubts disappear. I am so much more confident in games than I am in everyday life. I played softball and basketball when I was little, and I wasn't so bad, but in sixth grade, when I discovered the game of volleyball, I fell in love with it and never looked back. In junior high, I was really chubby and slow. The coaches would tell me that the only thing holding me back was my weight. My sets were great, but I couldn't get to the ball. So, do you know what I did? I went out and lost fifty pounds in the matter of one year. I learned how to control my eating habits, and to discipline myself into working out. …show more content…
Sure, there were a few minor set backs in that journey, but the perserverance is what got me through.
Now, I am the starting varsity setter. I, actually, got the "All - Tournament Award" at the last varsity tournament we went to, and I am hoping to play in college. My whole team is really grand, and we play in a travel league together. My teammates are: Kaci Raley, Molly Tanner, Dawn Houck, Macy Wilson, Madalyn Spears, Heather Deer, Madison Haggerty, Shelby Smith, and Rebekah Corrior. They are all so amazing, and I really love each and every one of them with all of my heart. We are two and one, so far, this season. Harmony came here, and we beat them in four. We went to Alba, last year's district champs, but lost in three. Then, we went to Edgewood and won in five. We are hoping to be district champions this season, and with a leader like Coach Lingo leading us, there is no stopping us. She is so encouraging and passionate about the game of volleyball. We are really lucky to have
her. A bond between your coaches and your teammates is really something special. We work together to do the best we can. We encourage, and we get excited when others do good. It is really hard to explain, but It is also really rewarding. I thank God everyday for giving me the game of volleyball. It is such a blessing, and I couldn't do it without him. I try to glorify and honor him on and off the court. I really don't deserve this amazing sport that he has, gracefully, blessed me with. He gave me a safe place that I could go to when things aren't going so well, and I don't know where I would be, or what I would do without it.
when I was ten years old I lost my grandpa, it was a very bad experience for me but it made me stronger. I remember when he taught me how to catch a baseball, ride a bike, mow the lawn and a lot of other things that I will forever cherish in my heart. the memory I will never forget though is when he taught me everything I needed to know about baseball. we would always go outside together and he would do certain agilities with me to build my stamina, teach me how to catch a pop-fly and he would work on pitching with me which is actually one of my main position that I play today. baseball was a big part of my grandpas life and he always wanted me to play In the major leagues. once he passed away my motives for playing in the major leagues increased.
As I’m a volleyball player, the coach from here saw me on a tournament when I was 18. He just sent an e-mail and ask me if I want to be part of LR volleyball team.
*Dinnng* Dinng* the school bell has just gone off meaning that I have 7 classes until volleyball tryouts. This is the most nerve racking thing I have experienced. My heart was thumping so hard I thought it was going to beat out of my chest. My stomach felt queasy. My whole mood was changed from my normal more confident self to someone that I was very unfamiliar with. During first period was presentations which were also adding to my nervousness, I had my head down most of the time speaking softly. This was somewhat embarrassing but I did whatever I could to not faint up there. Once the presentation was over, it seemed like all the other classes were a breeze and they just flew by, but I knew what was soon to come after school...2nd
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
I recently had the amazing opportunity to watch the University of Illinois women's volleyball team play Stanford, and let me tell you… THEY. ARE. AMAZING. Stanford has a six-foot-eight beast; her head clears the net when she blocks. I bet she's been nailed in the face quite a few times, but hey, if that's the only downside to being that tall and a volleyball player, then sign me up! I’ve chosen to play volleyball in college, but since I’m only five-foot-ten, I won’t have to worry about being smacked in the face when I’m blocking. Attending the game just two rows in front of me was no other than Charlie Rodman, probably the greatest volleyball coach I’ve ever encountered. Never having played, when Belleville West was looking for a new head volleyball coach, he began to read books and teach himself the game. He coached my mom when she was in high school and led her team to win back-to-back state championships in 1990 and 1991. No longer the head coach, he still helps run practices, comes to the games and tournaments, and whenever I have a question about what I did wrong, where to go, or a new technique, he’s always the first person I go to for an answer. He coached two girls who ended up playing for Stanford and the University of Illinois in the same year, so when I say he’s an amazing coach, I’m not sugar coating
I looked in their faces and knew mine mirrored theirs. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Just ten minutes ago, we all were so jubilant. We were so sure we were going to win. We had all wanted it for so long, but we finally felt is as our destiny just a few moments ago. But as our opponent threw the ball in the air, I knew she was just about to serve another ace. However, when the ball landed three feet in front of our best passer, something snapped inside of me.
Volleyball is one of the biggest team sports there are. It is big in the summer olympics and all around the world men and women play it every day. The game of volleyball was originally called “mintonette”, it was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 at Springfield College in Massachusetts, they made it along with basketball. In 1957 volleyball was officially an Olympic sport, the first games were held in Tokyo 1964 and the first beach volleyball games were in 1996 Atlanta. In London 2012, USA got 12 silver medals. In the Olympics, the Soviet Union has won the most medals. The best country right now is Brazil, winning gold medals in London 2012. One of the best volleyball players from Minnesota right now is Tori Dixon who played for the Gophers
Volleyball is not only a sport of leisure it is a game of concept and skill as well. Just like any other sport not everyone can just pick up a volleyball and start playing. People of all ages train in the art of the sport and dedicate their time to learn and master the skills that it takes to play the game of Volleyball. The same goes for football, basketball, baseball , to just think you can pick up a volleyball and play without knowing the skills it takes to be any good isn’t wise and could lead to possible
We have two major exercises, which related to the receiving in futsal and they are:
Volleyball is a sport that includes many elements from physics. Next time you are playing or watching your friend or family member play volleyball think about the elements in physics involved. Without gravity, work velocity, acceleration, work, and the Newton's 3 laws of motion, volleyball wouldn’t be the same. In this paper I will explain how you can use work, velocity, gravity and acceleration along with newton's three laws of motion
I had mixed feelings towards volleyball for a majority of the season. Earlier in the year I was chosen to be a floater meaning that I would play on both the
Volleyball is a great pastime played by many people. Many enjoy the game just to rev up their engines. It is a great way to get the blood flowing. It is a game that can be played by all ages. Six long hours after departing Hotchkiss, we finally reached our destination. We pulled into the parking lot of the Super 8 just off Interstate 76 in Sterling, Colorado. Since I had been to this hotel on a previous trip to Sterling, I began wishing I had brought my swimsuit along. Mom and dad went inside and got the keys for room 129. I was so sick of riding in the car that I did not care what the room looked like as long as there was a bed for me to sleep on. As we entered the room, on the left there was the bathroom sink, a mirror, and a place to hang our "good" clothes. To the right, was the miniature bathroom. There was not enough space in there for a midget. Stepping out of the entranceway, there was a wooden dresser with a 27-inch television. By the large window, there was a small table. Two queen size beds sat on either side of the nightstand. The purple patterned quilts were quite shocking compared to everything else in the room.
The Hanna crowd sat with hope at 21-19. There I went, about to make one of the most important impressions of my volleyball career for college coaches. I had to prove that I had shown God’s amazing gift of volleyball in my life. I was up against, 6’3”, Thayer Hall, from Dorman. She received, “Player of the year,” and was the number one junior Olympian in the U.S. Nerves spread all through my body: making me sweat like I was wearing a wooly coat on a summer day. This was my moment; I needed to make the most of it.
During our tennis season in the fall, our team participates in many competitions. I try to encourage my teammates to keep this same attitude to always give their absolute hardest on the court during competitions, as well as during practice. I learned this year as captain, that a group of individuals, united by a common goal and drive, can accomplish great achievements. We fought hard and made it to the Regional Semifinals, and completed our season ranked as the number six team in the state of Texas.
