With the pan shot of a low-angle facing up towards the moon, gave the illusion as if your walking in the woods looking up, made one feel like the you’re there. With the wide shot of a ceiling lamp swinging back and forth in a dark room, made myself and other viewers bracing for something to happen being used to seeing scenes similar in thrill and scary movies. To add to the woods setting there was a quick shot of a POV shot of a wolf/human running quickly through the woods, giving it a more of a setting in the setting vibe to a lone wolf being in the woods. When Kanye We4st starts his 3rd verse, he is in a room full of models and his wife that are at a standstill like statues, whom were all under one light from above. As he continues to rap, he walks between the models, weaving in and out, and even gets behind some models ass if he was trying to hide. Dramatic shadows and highli9ghts are best when kept at full range of midtown, which is best achieved with strong backlights and key lights. Without color a viewer’s focus point willingly be attracted to sharp contrast. So when shooting making sure lighting is great will be everything because, if not it will be picked up in post-production and there will either have to be a reshoot or change in shades that twill have to be made in post-production. Most songs about break-ups will make you sad or depressed, but his version was more I’m more happy without you. His album was number one on the billboards in the month of March. West had a lot of input on this album, because if you listen to the sounds in the beats you can see the similarity between the two artists. It's the first thing people notice, so it has to be done logically to persuade the audience to feel a certain way. In the trailer for Leatherface, color is used to generate a feeling of suspense by shifting back and forth between a warmer, daylight tone to a darker, blue tone. In the beginning of the trailer, a couple is driving in a car laughing and having fun as seen in figure 1. There is a warmer tone created by the use of natural daylight to make the audience feel how the couple is feeling. Following the playful feeling created by the first scene, the color shifts when the protagonist and her child are introduced. The scene, shown in figure 2, is dimly lit by candles with no other light. Switching to darker lighting hints to the audience that the characters involved in the scene could be related to or are the problem presented in the movie. Going back to the natural daylight, figure 3 demonstrates the next shift in color when the sheriff is talking to the protagonist about her children. The vibrant use of colors is meant to express the environmental conditions, as well as the character’s emotions. The main color during the whole film is red. The film uses red, yellow and orange to show me and keep reminding me about the heat. There is a scene in the film where three men sit against this bright red wall, and this shot isn 't just shown once in the film but multiple times. Even though the bright sun is never shown, I can tell how hot it is because of the colors. It also uses red to convey the character’s emotions such as anger, struggle, dissatisfaction, and frustration. For example, Jade’s apartment is red color to show Jade is a frustrated character in the film. It’s as though; colors were characters in the movie
While the film was just absolutely chilling, the one scene that sticks out the most is the infamous shower scene. While I had never watched this film, I came in with the basic knowledge that the shower scene was just brutal to watch; the music scoring and actions of this scene have been parodied in countless movies and shows. One thing I noticed was the very obvious fact that the movie was shot in black and white. This film was produced at a time where color film was widely available and it seemed at first, somewhat pointless to shoot something in black and white when better options were present and also easily accessed; this meant that shooting in color would not greatly increase production values. He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.
Spellbound was not a film noir. Crime and detection wasn’t viewed in a dark and urban environment. The only part that was dark was when Dr. Peterson and the fraud Dr. Edwards where on the train to Rome, Georgia. Dr Peterson was trying to pry memories out of him. I admit that John Ballantine was a bit cynical, but only when he was trying to remember what had happened to him. Otherwise, he was very friendly and sociable. High contrast lighting was used once, that I noticed. It was used when Dr. Peterson and Dr. Brulov where analyzing “Dr. Edwards” dream. They figured out why he was scared of white with black lines. Then they showed a picture of the outside where it was snowing and there were sled marks in the snow. Even though I don’t recall any low camera angles, I do know that they had deep focus on that same shot.
The lighting in this movie is very effective. It helps to establish the characters very well. The audience is helping in distinguishing the bad and the good characters through the lighting. The movie overall is very stylized. There are some other strange lighting patterns brought out by Hype Williams, but by far the most effective lighting patterns are ones that help to characterize the main players in the film.

This is just as true for the very first series of shots for the film, and perhaps more important since these first shots will give the audience the initial feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. A man begins revealing the details of a tragic incident that befell his daughter. We don’t see who he is talking to. There is a spotlight directly above the man, and this is pretty much 95% of the light used. This really lights up the top of his head, which is bald, but there is no hot spot or reflective element which is good because reflection here would be aesthetically displeasing. The lighting causes dark areas under the man’s eyes, which emphasize the passion and eventually the hatred of what he is talking about. The scene is lit so that the background is completely black, so that the only thing we can see is the man. Even though this is logically unrealistic, the stylistic decision to light in this manner is warranted, since this or any other good film draws heavily upon our expectations and imagination to convey a message or meaning. From the start of the film it is apparent what time frame it is taking place in and the differences in the social stratification through the lack of colors. One of the most obvious portrayals of the bleakness and desperation of the era is the overall faded and washed-out look of the whole film, due to manipulation of the film saturation; the heaviness of it almost cries out to the audience. Though the film was shot during the summer, cinematographer Roger Deakins and Cinesite colorist Julias Friede were able to use digital technology to change the appearance of the colors. “Together, they worked on manipulating the [digital] saturation of the images, and in particular selecting the greens of the trees and grass and turning them into dry browns and yellows” (Escaping, 2). These dry brown and yellows enhance the audience’s impression of the desperation of the characters and the time period.
Over the last two decades shooting in color has become the norm in photography, and amateurs have almost abandoned black and white. This is a great pity, as many color photographs would look better in monochrome. Most people relate immediately to a color photograph, which is not unexpected as we see the world in color. Therefore any color image is relatively acceptable, while an image in black and white has to be perfect to get the attention it deserves. Black and white pictures often have a moody or timeless feel.
