Fashion and film are art forms that have coexisted for decades, and although they are different, they also possess similar qualities. Pamela Church Gibson wrote in her book Film and Celebrity Culture that “film had a greater influence on fashion than any other form of visual culture” (Gibson 55). Fashion is an important part of film as it aids directors and writers in bringing characters and their personalities to life. Simultaneously, fashion has also benefited from films, as films are a popular source of inspiration for designers, who can be inspired by anything from storylines to characters. In an article, titled Film and Fashion: Just Friends, for the New York Times, Ruth La Ferla wrote that “wittingly or not, those viewers take in colors, subtle tactile impressions or an overall atmosphere that can linger in the mind for years, part of a vast store of images that may surface at any time” (La Ferla). …show more content…

As shown in Figure 6, during the runway, some of the models are seen trailing their stalks of red roses over the bodies of the male models on the army cots, in a way to assert their power over them, and looking at the men from the sides of their eyes or down their noses with an expression of contempt. This is very similar to the Red Queen, who hardly looks at her subjects straight in the eye, and often wearing an expression of disdain and scorn. A few models are also seen trying to conceal smirks, while twirling and playing with their roses, as if to mock the men who are bound to the cots, unable to move, and enjoying their misery. Similarly, the Red Queen also enjoys seeing her enemies suffer, even telling her court “I love a morning execution, don’t you?”, and is quick to give out death sentences for the smallest offenses. Browne elevated the runway presentation by making a relationship between the Red Queen’s character and the collection by getting the models to act like they are the Red Queen
