It is impossible to talk about a Wes Anderson movie without acknowledging its stunning color palettes and quirky storytelling style. In one of his most exemplary works, Moonrise Kingdom, Anderson uses a warm color scheme that blends bright and desaturated colors that ranges from golden yellow, vermillion red, creamy beige, light brown, to even a hint of teal. His color scheme, which is reflected throughout the film’s props, sets, costumes, title design, and camera filters, effectively evokes nostalgia, establishes the summer-like, dreamy mood of the film, and creates a distinct contrast between the different moral values of his characters. However, in the chaotic stormy escape scene and in the costume of Social Services, the visual design deviates greatly from the film’s primarily warm color palette and instead, immerse their visual elements in a deep, dark blue color to show the contrasts in the mood of the story as well as the attitudes of the characters. When Sam and Suzy share that electrifying kiss, according to Jonathan Lack from We Got This Covered, the scene drives home the point that the love story between Sam and Suzy are more than just “childish whims of rebellion,” and that they should be “celebrated for having the strength to find and rely on a person who makes them feel accepted.” After the stormy scene, the film immediately returns to its warm and bright color palette, and Bob Balaban returns to narrate the story. His vermillion red jacket matches the color of Suzy’s house in the distance, and the vibrant colors contrast with the gloomy, turbulent mood of the previous scene. From the start of the film it is apparent what time frame it is taking place in and the differences in the social stratification through the lack of colors. One of the most obvious portrayals of the bleakness and desperation of the era is the overall faded and washed-out look of the whole film, due to manipulation of the film saturation; the heaviness of it almost cries out to the audience. Though the film was shot during the summer, cinematographer Roger Deakins and Cinesite colorist Julias Friede were able to use digital technology to change the appearance of the colors. “Together, they worked on manipulating the [digital] saturation of the images, and in particular selecting the greens of the trees and grass and turning them into dry browns and yellows” (Escaping, 2). These dry brown and yellows enhance the audience’s impression of the desperation of the characters and the time period.
Besides an initial voiceover narration introducing Ray Kinsella (Kevin Cosner), his beloved wife Annie (Amy Madigan), and their young daughter Karin, this is the first scene in Field of Dreams, released in 1989 and directed by Phil Alden. Beyond the Lights, is a romantic drama film Directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood. The film premiered in September 2014 at an international film festival held in Toronto, and this followed by its release on November 14th, 2014 in the United States. The film is one of the strangest music industry romance based films, alternating between the entertainment business, wisdom and heartfelt flourishes. Yet, Gina Prince-Blythewood manages to show all the elements of her play into an irrefutably entertaining package.
The film, Fruitvale Station, is based upon a true story of a young, unarmed African American male, Oscar, who was shot by a Caucasian BART police officer. The film displays the final twenty-fours of Oscar Grant’s lives going through his struggles, triumphs, and eager search to change his life around. There will be an analysis of the sociological aspects displayed throughout the movie that show racism, prejudice, and discrimination.
It's the first thing people notice, so it has to be done logically to persuade the audience to feel a certain way. In the trailer for Leatherface, color is used to generate a feeling of suspense by shifting back and forth between a warmer, daylight tone to a darker, blue tone. In the beginning of the trailer, a couple is driving in a car laughing and having fun as seen in figure 1. There is a warmer tone created by the use of natural daylight to make the audience feel how the couple is feeling. Following the playful feeling created by the first scene, the color shifts when the protagonist and her child are introduced. The scene, shown in figure 2, is dimly lit by candles with no other light. Switching to darker lighting hints to the audience that the characters involved in the scene could be related to or are the problem presented in the movie. Going back to the natural daylight, figure 3 demonstrates the next shift in color when the sheriff is talking to the protagonist about her children. Looking at landscape art, especially when painted by one of the masters, many have undoubtedly pondered: what would it be like to live there? Shapes and attention to detail are, of course, important in a painting. However, it is color that draws the eye and inspires the heart. Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet and dramatist, spoke well of this when he noted that, “Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. (qtd in “color”)”. Vincent Ward had a similar understanding of this impact when, in 1998, he directed the movie What Dreams May Come. Looking at this film, one can easily imagine being inside a living painting. The use of color to emphasize the emotional state of a character or event is common in films; nevertheless, Director Ward goes even farther in using color to represent the actual characters themselves. Red is the shade chosen to signify Annie and likewise, blue is used for Chris. Both of these, as will be shown, are accurate in defining these fictitious people. However, it is the profound use of purple in this film that is the true focal point. When mixing red and blue paint, one would find that, after being mixed, they cannot be separated. Likewise, this is true of the life and love these characters build and share. Purple represents the many ways in which Chris and Annie are melded, and joined.

The mise en scene of a movie catches the attention of the viewers’ moods as much as lighting, props sounds, and smells do. It alerts their emotional response system to a real-life setting, which is conveyed in the movie.
The vibrant use of colors is meant to express the environmental conditions, as well as the character’s emotions. The main color during the whole film is red. The film uses red, yellow and orange to show me and keep reminding me about the heat. There is a scene in the film where three men sit against this bright red wall, and this shot isn 't just shown once in the film but multiple times. Even though the bright sun is never shown, I can tell how hot it is because of the colors.
