This young man was hoping for a cool jacket , “something like the bikers wear: black
The narrator strongly claimed that his clothes have failed him when he recalled the green jacket he wore on his fifth and sixth grade. He believed that instead of looking like a champion, his day-old guacamole colored jacket has embarrassed him that lead him to think it has failed him (Soto, 473). He had actually hoped and requested to his mom a different jacket. It is the kind of jacket that the bikers wear which is black leather and silver stud with enough belts that will make him look brave. But disappointment struck him when he found an ordinary green jacket instead. He stared at the jacket and wanted to cry because to him it was ugly and so big. Moreover, he knew he will have to bear with the fact that he will be wearing that ugly jacket for a very long time. For a brief moment he was still in denial and was expecting it was his brother’s jacket. Acceptance came later since he has no other choice but to wear it. With a heavy heart he slipped into his jacket and decided to head out of the house.
As a child, your parents always told you that old moral lesson, “What goes around comes around.” Some may call it good luck or bad luck, but I refer to it as karma. When one is faced with a moral choice, he or she has to differ right from wrong. People are hesitant about making the wrong decision because the outcome you may endure is the negative feeling of guilt.
Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. The human race has a major effect on the natural world, especially animals. Animal cruelty is an example of how man has taken advantage of his power. Those exhibiting cruelty towards animals have been proven to have a tendency to harbor violent psychological problems. Animal cruelty occurs all over the world. Fortunately, many countries have enacted laws and penalties to stop this harsh behavior.
Animal rights is the viewpoint that animals have rights corresponding to the way humans do. Animal cruelty is a worldwide social problem that is multidimensional. Animals are generally abused in four major areas: factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry (PETA.org). Factories often conceal their harmful acts to avoid animal welfare laws imposed by the government. In a household, people isolate or physically abuse their animals, which can also be linked to family abuse. Laboratories experiment on animals for products and treatments, but animals are faced with frightening conditions for long periods often killing those experimented on. In entertainment, animals suffer after being domesticated for our amusement in the forms of media, amusement parks, or facilities (McPhedran). With the help of animal rights activist groups, animal cruelty is conflicted with ideology that animals are titled to their own lives—free of suffering.
In Karen Horney’s essay, “The Distrust Between the Sexes,” she demonstrates how the expectations we have when we are in love can often lead to disappointment. “An almost unavoidable source of disappointment and distrust in our normal love life derives from the fact that the very intensity of our feelings of love stirs up all of our secret expectations and longing for happiness, which slumber deep inside us (361).” Simply, projecting our desires, expectation and sometimes guilt upon our lover can lead to disappointment. Love, in this way, can be a hugely unsatisfying because our expectations for it can be contradictory in nature and sometimes unrealistic.
“Innocence is the weakest defense. Innocence has a single voice that can only say over and over again, “I didn’t do it.” Guilt has a thousand voices, all of them lie.”(Leonard F. Peltier). We all have innocence and bad in us. For most, the guilt of doing bad keeps us from it, but for some, the evil in us takes control. William Golding displays how guilt and innocence are lost when laws are not enforced, and there are no longer consequences. In the tragic novel, Lord of the Flies, Golding displays the length human’s will go to when savagery takes over.
While there are arguments that support the idea that being a vegetarian can bring good changes to their life, there are also arguments that aid the contrary. Vegetarianism had brought negative effects to vegetarian such as some health issues and it is difficult for the vegetarians to eat outside.
Most people believe that testing on animals before using the consuming good on a human is a very great idea. I would beg to differ, animal testing is in fact wicked and barbaric. Although us human can not understand animals this does not mean that they do not have emotions leading to that they can still be put through a lot of pain. According to PETA.org, over 100 million animals die every year due to animal testing. This can be decreased majorly by using the methods that do not involve using animals and with those methods already created, using is a no brainer. Although, the consuming good may work on an animal this does not mean that it would not have a negative effect on a human.
Every person has the ability to make their own choice of whether to eat meat or not. However, eating meat is directly tied to negative health effects, pollution leading to a depletion of ozone, and the depletion of hundreds of thousands of acres of land “wasted” on animal production when they could be used to solve the hunger crisis or lower emission levels. What humans eat is no longer a matter of choice; it has become a matter of life and death. Literally, the future of the whole planet rests on the decision of whether or not to eat meat. If humans chose to eat less meat the world that wouldn’t have to suffer the consequences (outlined above.) Vegetarianism is one possibility, as is Veganism; however the world would be
It is difficult to believe how some humans are capable of inflicting pain to animals just to satisfy their lowest instincts or for money. The way people treat animals all over the world may defers from one place to another, but in general more people are standing up for animal rights in hopes that one day animal cruelty will be no more. However, this is not a perfect world, and animals, domesticated and wild, are abuse and beaten every single day. For example, dog fighting which is described as “The act of baiting two dogs against one another for entertainment or gain” (Yilmaz, Coskun, and Ertugrul). It is just a horrific and devastating experience that no dog should ever have to go through, “animals have been and continued to
To every pet owner, how would it feel if your pet spent the rest of their life in a cage, while another living being applies different chemicals over and over again to see if it causes any reaction? This is what any mice, rabbit, frog, dogs have to deal with every day in order to provide humans with new medicine and products. Animal testing has been occurring for decades in order to help out medicine and the beauty industry. Many scientists have accepted the fact that animal testing can be an essential contribution to discovering new medicine. Unfortunately, animals are being used for experiments on a daily basis and being exploited for consumerism. Animal testing should not be allowed and there should be stricter laws against it or find other methods to do experiments.
Every year, the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) takes in close to 50,000 reports of animal mistreatment in Australia and about 150,000 in England and in Wales (RSPCA, 2013). However, these figures do not include the cases when mistreatment is not reported which, according to the RSPCA, happens almost as often as the ones recorded (RSPCA, 2013). Maltreatment occurs when an animal is tormented or harmed, imprisoned or transported from one place to another in a manner that risks their well-being and health. Killing them in a non-humane way, not providing them with the correct food, not taking care of them or the illness and injuries they may have, and not providing them with proper shelter or adequate living circumstances are also forms of cruelty. In 2013 the RSPCA investigated 4,000 more cases in Australia than in the previous year; statistics also show that in the United Kingdom, on average, every thirty seconds someone dials the Organization’s 24-hour cruelty line seeking for help (RSPCA, 2013). This indicates that animal mistreatment is a growing issue that has effects not only on the victims, but also on the perpetrator, the people involved in rescuing and saving the animals’ life, and every other individual that gets touched by their stories. Thus, considering that abusing animals is against our moral and ethical obligation of protecting our planet and the forms of life in it, including animal life, it is an issue that is happening considerably often. However, thankfully for the animals, there are also organizations and laws opposing and fighting against animal cruelty to save the victims and to put an end to it. Global organizations such as the RSPCA, ALDF, PETA, WSPA, among other...
It is a reasonable thought to think that humans as a society must respect the environment around them in order to have balance. Balance as in knowing what is moral and just and what is blatantly wrong. Sadly, this is nothing more than a thought. Abuse towards the environment, especially animals, is present everywhere. Whether it be through emotional pain, physical pain, or the extent of the abuse, mistreatment of any animal should not be tolerated and should be brought awareness to. It is up to us to decide what should be done about it and figure out how we can better our environment, instead of causing more pain. I believe that this is a much more reasonable thought and can eventually benefit every person and animal alike.
Many people strive to be healthy. Following a vegetarian diet is healthy. Therefore, people should live a vegetarian lifestyle. The vegetarian lifestyle is quite easy to maintain if one starts by just cutting out red meats from the diet, and then progress into chicken, and finally fish. This is the easiest way to become vegetarian, as you are stopping step by step instead of all at once. A majority of vegetarian diets have several easy to prepare meals and are fairly easy to follow. Countless restaurants serve meatless dishes, and salads are almost always available. Vegetarians tend to be healthier than those who consume meat. This is due to the prevalent unnatural chemicals used in the processing of meats, which are very harmful to the human body. Meats already contain harmful amounts of cholesterol, and over-consumption of red meat can lead to early heart disease. The meat must maintain a safe temperature all throughout travel, and stay that way
