Describe: It is appropriate to use sources in an essay if the sources can enhance the essay and support it to make a strong argument. Using resources is necessary for essays that require evidence to present a more compelling statement to the audience. Sources, if used and presented properly, provide evidential reference to back up the claim of the writer and prove to be a convincing element of an essay. They essentially validate the point and present materials to persuade the readers. Using sources in an essay is important especially when resources supply historical and factual information that will serve as the backbone of the authors’ claim. However, it is only appropriate to use sources if they are reliable. Unreliable sources can tarnish the credibility and validity of an essay and can misinform or misguide the readers. The writers need to be careful when using sources in their essay because it can also lead to an act of plagiarism. It is important to differentiate between facts, opinions, and bias when choosing sources for any research to avoid misleading the readers. There are pieces of information that cannot be changeable, whether they are false or true. Audience has to be aware if they are reading an opinion-based essay because it can provide a notion whether to believe or not, depending on who gave the …show more content…
It helps me keep track of my materials and can be very handy at all times. In my argument essay, this technique helped me to be more familiar of my borrowed information, which gave me more confidence in incorporating the materials in my essay. Because integrating sources in an essay is a meticulous process, I think the note-taking technique is not only helpful in arranging the sources but it also allows me more time to decide carefully. In addition, it is very convenient. For example, I can easily take pictures of my note card and store them in my phone which I can access
The uniqueness of our minds and our cognition is irreplaceable. Beauty, and reverence of the voice lie in the opinions it resonates. We take aesthetic pleasure in the speech of those who motivate us and adopt from them a number of values and beliefs that we agree with. The likelihood of individuals basing their ideals and decision making process off of accessible and prolonged exposure to certain influences is great. These underlying unidimensional prejudices cause us to be biased in our opinions. Various forms of literature are able to help their readers to become more aware of their prejudices. Though the messages we adopt from these texts, we are able to realize the importance of basing our opinions from multiple sources and perspectives. Literature has traveled great lengths to help me become more cognitive of my prejudices, and encourages me to seek different perspectives before formulating an opinion.
It was quite challenging for me because the research process was long and I wasn’t read the articles carefully enough. After I gathered all the article I was lucky to find many goods points from the articles to support my point. It is better to have many resources to use for the final essay, so I was trying to carefully maximize the use of those articles. It is important to find the article so that can be evidence to support my argument. I was having hard time to distinguigh between primary source and secondary source. The librarian was very helpful in help me to find a primary source to use for my
First, the historian must refer to primary sources, must describe how he selected his sources and how they are useful, and must quote, refer to, or interpret sources responsibly (representing their context, content, and importance as accurately and fairly as possible) and precisely (using them to clearly support his specific arguments, not haphazardly or too generally). This satisfies the reader by relating (at least one version) of what really happened, and showing how the author justifies his analysis in light of historical fact.
In the article, “Attention, Students: Put Your Laptops Away,” the writer tells the reader differences between taking notes with a laptop or taking them in a notebook. When taking notes with a laptop people have the tendency to write down everything word for word while others cannot help but click a new tab and get on social media. Taking notes word for word has been proven that you do not comprehend what you are writing down. "When people type their notes, they have this tendency to try to take verbatim notes and write down as much of the lecture as they can," Mueller tells NPR's Rachel Martin. After reading the article my opinion is writing notes in a notebook is more beneficial than taking them on a laptop. If I want to excel in school and
This is a credible article; it seems that it is researched thoroughly and thoughtfully. Overall this article highlights my topic fairly well, and did meet my expectations; the author’s conclusion ended strong and summarizes the article greatly. Still, this article is not much different than my other twelve articles with the exclusion of one. In this article and others not all sources have different points of view and only one has done that.
...le to be Bias as there is no variety from where and who the opinions come from, they are one sided views which no one has attempted to prove or disprove in this particular article.
The sources used by the author dictated the conversation that could be issued. The difference stances and opinions gave the author a broader viewpoint to discuss the issue on. With the aid of sources and references, many being used above, she gave the reader a different view point of the problem, debating the reader to determine whether it truly is something that cannot be controlled or is something that can easily be avoided based on freewill.
A thorough exploration of this particular topic may investigate subtopics such as secondary misinterpretations of first hand accounts, social prejudice within primary sources, as well as the impact of former political pressures in primary sources. A comprehensive analysis of the potential essay topic will go beyond the original arguments and ideas of the authors to prove or disprove their theory scholarly articles have reinforced inaccuracies within primary
Primary sources are important because they give the reader first person accounts of people’s direct experiences as they were experienced by the person, and witness accounts of what someone directly observed of a situation or event. Primary sources are used in history to give accounts of what was happening at the time from someone who lived that event, and can recount what happened as they experienced it instead of things written on the subject that have to rely on outside information to write the story because they were not there.
When you perform research for your class assignments, you will encounter many types of resources: books, popular magazines, scholarly articles and websites. Not everything you find on a topic will be useful to research, or meet the criteria given for writing college-level papers. There are three different types of sources first is a primary source. A primary source is evidence of a period and place that was studied that was produced by eyewitnesses to or participants in the historical moment being taught or talked about. original; not derived but rather a firsthand account, original data, etc., or based on direct knowledge,A secondary source are interpretations often generated by someone that was not there but heard it from someone that was
However, these sources are not immune to personal biases, which can influence the portrayal of events, peoples, and
Citing sources is a way of following procedures and avoiding plagiarism. If you are going to borrow someone else’s work you need to cite it in the text and on the works cited page. There are two reasons why sources are cited:
The textbooks mentions the significances of events, while the primary sources allows the reader to go into more dept. about an event. Doing this essay, I highlighted events that are mentioned in the textbook and I was able to have an idea of what the topic was about. The primary sources allowed me to know the whole story of event and gives more important information that can help fill in the gaps that the textbook leaves out.
...o them. There is no need to to cite basic facts that is common knowledge to everyone, but books and ideas need to be attributed to the writer (Works). Students must cite their sources even if you summarize or paraphrased, not only if using a direct quote. By analyzing the rules and processes for creating a proper and effective work cited page can create a better understanding and reference point for new writers. Creating a strong paper can be difficult, the citation is can make it easier to create a backbone and substance to the paper.
Researcher writers in today’s world need to be factual and knowledgeable on the writing topic. Reading “How I Came to Love the Veil” by Yvonne Ridley one can consider it a research essay but it is not true. Ridley’s essay is about how she got captured by the Taliban, and she needed to convert into Muslim or die. She did convert and her story is of people's action towards Muslim woman and her facts about what she see through her eyes. It sounds like a good essay but in truth is very opinionated. Yvonne Ridley’s “ How I Came to Love the Veil” is ruined by her credibility with her misinterpretation of opposers, over-generalizations, and fallacies that damage her ethos as a writer.
