Describe: It is appropriate to use sources in an essay if the sources can enhance the essay and support it to make a strong argument. Using resources is necessary for essays that require evidence to present a more compelling statement to the audience. Sources, if used and presented properly, provide evidential reference to back up the claim of the writer and prove to be a convincing element of an essay. They essentially validate the point and present materials to persuade the readers. Using sources in an essay is important especially when resources supply historical and factual information that will serve as the backbone of the authors’ claim. However, it is only appropriate to use sources if they are reliable. Unreliable sources can tarnish the credibility and validity of an essay and can misinform or misguide the readers. The writers need to be careful when using sources in their essay because it can also lead to an act of plagiarism. It is important to differentiate between facts, opinions, and bias when choosing sources for any research to avoid misleading the readers. There are pieces of information that cannot be changeable, whether they are false or true. It helps me keep track of my materials and can be very handy at all times. In my argument essay, this technique helped me to be more familiar of my borrowed information, which gave me more confidence in incorporating the materials in my essay.
