In the article, “Attention, Students: Put Your Laptops Away,” the writer tells the reader differences between taking notes with a laptop or taking them in a notebook. When taking notes with a laptop people have the tendency to write down everything word for word while others cannot help but click a new tab and get on social media. Taking notes word for word has been proven that you do not comprehend what you are writing down. "When people type their notes, they have this tendency to try to take verbatim notes and write down as much of the lecture as they can," Mueller tells NPR's Rachel Martin. After reading the article my opinion is writing notes in a notebook is more beneficial than taking them on a laptop. If I want to excel in school and
Over the past few decades technology has advanced quite a bit. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased significantly. In a large scale, technology is replacing the method of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, who is a professor at Yale University as well as a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests to limit the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom” which was published in the New Republic magazine in 1994. In this article he offers well illustrated analysis which makes the readers to regulate the use of technology in the classroom. He thinks that the technology comes in a way of building strong foundation of basic skills. He insists that computers should be used to aid the learning process, not to replace cognitive thinking.
In the article, “Multitasking Can Make You Lose…Um…Focus,” Alina Tugend centralizes around the negative effects of multitasking. She shows that often with multitasking, people tend to lose focus, lack work quality, have an increase in stress, and in the end she gives a solution to all these problems. Tugend conveys her points by using understandable language, a clear division of subjects, and many reliable sources, making her article cogent.
Technology can disrupt people’s train of thought. To begin with, many people around the world use technology. Electronics can help students and also affect them in many ways, but whether or not shutting down all electronics can help. Schools should participate in “Shut Down Your Screen Week” because of many reasons.
Technology, one of the fastest growing industry in the world right now, it is also a characteristic that define how well and smart a country is. Simply because the ability and potential to accomplish great things that make technology really important, all this is proved through the fact that technology change the way people do things in every major, from nursing to even heavy manufacturing in factory. And there is no different in school, technology is used in student every day’s life, the most common device that every school have is computer. Growing up participation was one of three or four of the major grading categories teachers would use to grade us on, but with the use of a laptop it'll be hard to get a good grade within this category. Throughout the course of my first and second year of college I've tested using my laptop in many different classes. For example, I tried to use my laptop during my sociology class, but that didn't workout for me. Throughout the duration of the class I would use my laptop to take notes and of course doing other things, I had no business doing during class. When it was to contribute during class discussion we would put our laptops to the side to begin discussion. Although we had to put or laptops to the side, I noticed it was harder for the students who were using their laptops during the class to sufficiently contribute to the discussion. For the students who took handwritten notes it was easier for them to contribute to the class discussion, and actually know what they were discussing about. The separation between the two note takers are people who do handwritten notes put the teachers information into their own context. Meanwhile, people who type their notes tend to just type what they're hearing. Therefore, I decided to stop bringing my laptop to sociology, and I noticed a change in my learning. I was able to contribute more to the discussions and learn more by exchanging information with my
As was previously stated, The Handwriting Debate reveals that handwriting helps students retain memory more effectively than keyboarding. One study by Virginia Berninger, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, compared students who took notes by hand versus classmates who took n...
The computer obsession began when the first computer was built in 1939. There are many uses of a computer like the proper way and the negative way. The way Annalee Newitz uses her computer is good and bad. The definition of a good teaching tool is the best way to teach a class or something that is taught. Using a good teaching tool is not always easy. There are many things about computers who make people depend or use too much to stop depending on technology.
What I use to start my paper is what I use when I finish my paper. I use Microsoft Word as my main source of writing my drafts. My secondary method is writing done interesting facts and statements I found during my research that I want to come back to when I am typing the rough draft. I find that writing important things down helps with my time efficiency and keeps me more focused on my research, instead of copy, pasting, and switching screens each time. I believe writing a rough draft with our advancement of technology a waste of time for me, and I choose to use Word for my drafts. It is neatly presented for proofreading. My handwriting is not the best, and I feel that it is easier to read off of a computer screen than reading messy handwriting. Not to mention that Word does a large amount of proofreading for you. Today, everyone is so used to reading off of a computer screen that it has become natural, but depending on who can proofread my paper, it can be right on the screen or from a hard copy. I do believe I work more efficient typing than any other method I used in the past.
The past two decades have overwhelmed the human experience with technology, along with all its distractions. The direct relationship between the mind and the body’s ability to adjust from these distractions can be extremely difficult .Further research has shown that it has become an addiction for many. Technology has significantly improved our lives as a whole through experiences such as Global Positioning System (GPS), cell phones and social networking allowing us to communicate with different people around the world. These technologies make our daily lives easier and more efficient. However, this also discusses the effects of technology on various aspects of our everyday personal experiences both with each other and with the world around us. On the other hand technologies such as cell phones have become a problem in getting students to focus in class and distracting drivers and thus, resulting in vehicle accidents. Technology is beneficial, but can also become an inescapable distraction in our lives. It is important to view technology as having the ability to make our lives better or worse, yet also as having the ability to change our personal lives and behavioral patterns.
Along with technology being a distraction, it can also cause students to be less social.
When you write by hand rather than typing, it helps individuals remember their ideas easier. For example, you would be better of writing notes for an important test on paper rather than typing what you hear from the teacher. Psychologist have ran tests on this theory. They believe it is because writing
In my experiences that if I write something down it sticks better in my mind. If you repeat something over and over such as writing it down it will help the mind remember it. If you just type it than you are just hitting keys on a key board. You don't have and stop and think so much what you are writing. When
Typing notes instead of writing them out is better. Most people like myself can type a lot faster than they can write. This way when your taking notes, you dont miss anything the teacher has said. Also when you type notes you mostly like wont miss spell word because of your autocorrect.
Ebooks are being constantly purchased by consumers; hardcover print books are usually pricey. However, taking notes on paper can become soiled with ink or pencil marks. Unlike ebooks, they can have a notepad built in which helps by just tapping on the keyboard. Print books is more of a hassle, considering flipping through pages and writing notes down on paper. On the other hand, using an ebook is multitasking, by reading and typing out notes it helps the user to feel as if they are using some sort of app. Ebooks keeps things organized and more oriented by reading and note taking. It does not take time in going through pages and pages in
The Impact of Computers on Education Technology is all around us these days. If you don't understand the basics of computers and how to run one, your choices of jobs and things to do are limited. Almost everywhere you go and every job you can think of uses computers. For this reason, computers have become a big part of the education system. I'm planning on teaching elementary students, so I researched the impact that computers have had on teachers and students.
