According to Investopedia, succession planning is “a strategy for passing each key leadership role within a company to someone else in such a way that the company continues to operate after the incumbent leader is no longer in control. Succession planning ensures that businesses continue to run smoothly after the business’s most important people move on to new opportunities, retire or pass away.” (Anon., n.d.) Coaching and mentoring can facilitate succession planning.
Professional and personal development helps the organisation in product and new materials development. It will reduce development costs of new products, services, software, and processes and shorten development times and time to market.

Professional development in any profession is very important. When we work as an early childhood educator, the passion for our work should reflect in our personality and attitude. We must be knowledgeable in the field we are working for and in this field we must have the sufficient knowledge of the child development and follow the standard of practice. Professional development is a lifelong learning practice which gives us personal satisfaction too. We should always thrive to get new knowledge, new skills and keep ourselves informed with latest changes and development in this field and apply our knowledge into practice.
A personal development plan is an action plan that gets you from where you are right now to where you want to be in future. This can incorporate learning hard skills (like project management skills) as well as soft skills (like active listening) (Bartels, 2013).
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
The personal plan has enabled me to track myself on my developmental changes that are important for my achievement of set goals. Planning has also allowed me to keep track of all the steps that I will need to acquire skills and knowledge. I have also been able to see that if I continue in my current method I will not achieve all of my goals and through techniques such as SWOT analysis I have identified these areas and begun to create methods to fix this problem. The basic purpose of this essay is to point out my personal and professional skill development because these two areas are interwoven.
I have been a teacher for fifteen years, worked in two different school districts, and I have attended many professional development classes. I have had both positive and negative experiences from professional development.
