“Runners to your mark, get set, go!” These words start numerous kinds of races. When runner decide on what event to run, they must first contemplate the style of the race. Next, the runners must examine the running method that will suit them best. Even though Track and Cross Country have some basic similarities, runners need to consider that both sports have differences too. Track and Cross Country running are similar in their running events-they both or can be long-distance. Both sports have a variety of long-distance running events. Typical long-distance Track and Field races range from 3000m to 10000m, while Cross Country races usually cover five to seven miles. In addition, the two activities also share the same training techniques
They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares" (603). This quotation shows that running is not always competition, but it helps runners overcome their
Many people argue that cross country is one of the hardest, most physically challenging sports there is out there. A lot of people shudder at the idea of running two or more miles on hilly, steep, muddy and rocky trails. The funny thing about that is that is not even the worst part. In order to run two to four miles in races, one must prepare. “How do you prepare your body to run this long?” one might ask. That is where my argument comes in. Being a cross country runner of four years, I have seen, done and heard of a plethora of ways and strategies to become a successful cross country runner. Some are outlandish, ridiculous and just plain out stupid; but some are also rewarding, beneficial and worth the hard work. Personally, I feel like having a good strong balanced diet, learning how to pace yourself and maintain a positive, motivational attitude and the key ingredients in being a successful cross country runner.
In East Africa, there is an area know as the Great Rift Valley. It is in this Great Rift Valley, where the world’s most dominant long distance runners come from, Kenya. In the past three decades, runners from Kenya have simply dominated the sport of long distance running in all facets including cross-country, track, and the marathon. In the world rankings for marathon running, Kenyans hold 8 of the top 10 spots for the men and 6 of the top ten spots in women’s rankings. (Entine, Par. 2) But how can one country be so overpowering in a sport that anyone can participate in? There are a number of factors that all work together to make Kenyan runners the best of the best. Rigorous training regimens, the physical geography of Kenya, country and world support of the athletes, genetics and early participation of children are all factors in the study of why Kenyan runners are by far the best long distance runners in the world. To start off, you must look at the physical geography in which the Kenyans train.
Endurance running is a rewarding experience that puts to test an athlete’s courage, perseverance and determination. It is a marvelous wonder how the human body, with the proper conditioning and mental focus, could achieve such tasking running distance. Elite runners complete the marathon course in just over 2 hours, while the average runner completes it in about 4.5 hours. It’s difficult to comprehend how someone could run, consistently, for 4.5 hours. The actual marathon is simply a formality as the journey starts the day training begins. The outcome, the day of the marathon, is dependent on how successful the training program was executed. Long distance runners are the biggest advocates of the sport, always convincing others to jump on the training wagon. However, some runners, while they refuse to admit it, ponder if the effects of long distance running could be doing more damage than good. It is true that long distance running is potentially dangerous to the heart; however, research suggests that physician examination, as well as proper mechanics and posture during the training phase would ensure an enjoyable journey towards reaching an endurance goal injury free and would even benefit the heart in the long run.
Its not quite easy to be a successful track runner. You have to be devoted enough to observe your eating habits, be able to weightlift, and constantly practice plyometric drills. Plyometrics are exercises used to strengthen leg muscles; which can include regular
Running in a girl’s cross country meet isn’t as easy as it sounds, but with a little experience and help it can become a better experience. The first thing everyone does is line up on a spray painted line in the grass. Before the race even starts the race official tells us the rules and counts everyone that is running. He also tells us about any big holes or ditches that we may encounter in our 2 mile journey.
Running is a very simple task, all it is is rapid leg movements, along with arm swinging, through long strides while on foot. To be considered an act of running, both feet must be held off the ground at regularly spaced brief intervals. Believe it or not, there is actually a lot of physics behind running. There is the speed of the runner, the length of each stride the runner takes, the energy you use and how to save it, and then you have the pendulum law.
Cross country and track to an outsider, they can only be seen as running. Well, to a student of the sport they are both so much more. Runners are gathered to both, but there are plenty of variations between the two. Although I love both of these sports, if I had to side with one, I would choose track. These can commonly be seen in training, races, and people.
With a constant expansion of community with young athletes especially those of a younger age. the youth is becoming a prime target for most colleges, and professional teams. The cream of the crop is getting younger, so to speak. The youth are becoming the new outlet of skills and insight to constantly changing sports such as football, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball, track, and soccer. This is shaping the course of play towards new horizons based off of different ambitions and adaptations in training. One means of greatness will always be the same, run with purpose. whether its purpose to make a statement, improve your training, or be a better athlete. running is one of the key bases in many great athletes and can benefit any individuals sport dramatically.
What is Biomechanics? It is the study of forces and their effects on the living system (McGinnis, 2013). In this essay, I will be looking at the biomechanics of running. Running, as well as any other sport requires skills for which advancement is due to consistent deliberate practice and effective development. However, runners should establish a training system that actively builds their original running pattern instead of basing it on what works well for others. Understanding the biomechanics of running gives a better knowledge of their running techniques and points out areas of concerns that require improvement. Despite the fact that running is dependent on the interaction of the whole body, breaking down the running pace into single components allows us to further understand how minor changes can increase improve performance and decrease injury risk.
Track and field during the victorian era was very similar to present day with many of the same events.Track and field's line of events is from ancient athletic festivals in Greece and the British Isles. Both the original Olympics in ancient Greece and the Celtic Tailteann Games date back to around the ninth century BCE. These games played host to the best athletes throughout the world, who competed in running, jumping, and throwing events in addition to wrestling, archery, and the greeks had swimming.. Professional track and field had no regulation, with many athletes making a living by their skill and talent. There are multiple stories of sprinters who would travel from town to town in disguise, pretending that they had no talent in racing and then persuaded many local people to compete with them and sometimes spectators would place bets against them. Often the races would be handicapped events, meaning the locals were given a rough 5–10 yards' head start in a 100-yard dash. During this way the athletes were able to make a substantial living. Long distance races were also very common, often the races were promoted heavily for extra money. Though cheating happened frequently, the professional sport still had...
There are many sports which are very similar. Most of the time, cross country and track and field are two sports that are constantly mistaken for each other. Track and field has more events so it’s more diverse and open to many different types of athletes, as opposed to just long distance runners in cross country. Cross country and track and field are very different sports and it’s much easier to distinguish between the two after the differences between them are known.
Everybody has at least sprinted a short distance on a track or have run at least a lap on a track for a period of time. Many people that have play sports have experienced sprinting or long distance running. Some sports like basketball, baseball, football and sprinting event in track require short burst of speed. While sports like cross country or some events for track and field require endurance for these events. In the Olympics for example there are many differences between sprinters and long distance runners. These differences include physical differences, motion, and different workout plans between sprinters and long distance runners.
Walking races (also called racewalking) are an athletic competition similar to running races but not completely the same. In walking races, individuals walk at fast speeds, follow specific rules, and travel long distances. A popular Olympic sport, walking races are challenging because they require the participant to keep one foot on the ground at all times and the athletes back toe can't be lifted until the front heel hits the ground. Participants are also required to keep their back leg straight until the person has moved forward and is ready to take another step.
