There are many sports which are very similar. Most of the time, cross country and track and field are two sports that are constantly mistaken for each other. Track and field has more events so it’s more diverse and open to many different types of athletes, as opposed to just long distance runners in cross country. Cross country and track and field are very different sports and it’s much easier to distinguish between the two after the differences between them are known. There are very few similarities between these two sports. The main similarity between cross country and track and field is that both of these sports require some amount of running. Usually, warm-ups for all track and cross country athletes include cardio, followed by drills
designed to improve stamina and endurance.Typically, most cross country athletes that compete in the fall also compete in the distance track and field events in the spring. For these two sports, it’s recommended to have a specific type of running shoe such as racing flats, for cross country, or spikes, for track, to compete in. Both of the sports’ competition names are called “meets”. Track and field is a collection of many different kinds of events: jumping, running, hurdling, throwing, and sprinting. So, the body types that compete in this sport vary greatly from one person to the next depending on their events. Throwers are big and muscular, hurdlers are flexible and have long legs, sprinters and jumpers have muscular legs, focused on the upper thigh muscles such as the quad and hamstring, distance runners typically have the same body type as cross country runners. Cross country athletes typically are skinny, lanky, and bony. The locations of these sports are very different. Cross country meets take place over various courses over rocky terrain, hills, and dirt and mud trails. The length of a typical high school cross country race is 3.1 miles, or 5k. Collegiate cross country runners are expected to race for about 5 miles for women, and 7 miles for men. Cross country meets can take 3 hours maximum to finish all divisions of races, along with an award ceremony. Track meets can take over 12 hours to complete, depending on how many heats, flights, or trials per event. Track and field meets are held on a track terrain, made of tire rubber or dirt tracks, with 5 to 7 lanes. One lap’s distance around the track is about a quarter of a mile, or 400 meters. Depending on a runner’s event, it determines how many laps, or meters, they run. For spectators, a track meet has everything on the track unlike cross country, where the course is spread out with various spectating locations. The paces at which both sports must train for and compete in are very different. Cross country runners build up their endurance, stamina, and work their slow-twitch muscles during training. Track athletes train in a number of different ways, depending on the athlete’s specialty in events. Sprinters and hurdlers work on speed, while jumpers work on strength, specifically in their legs. Throwers work on form, strength and power in their arms, and distance runners train by focusing on endurance and speed. There have been many instances in which cross country has been mistaken for track and vice versa. The constant misidentification of the two has caused eternal frustration for both kinds of runners because the two sports are very different in multiple ways. Regardless of their differences, track and field and cross country should be respected due to the amount of training, discipline, and effort that these kinds of athletes put in.

There are so many different things people think is necessary, like running sprints, heavy miles or lifting weights and building strength, but in reality these things are minor. Although being physically fit is idealistic, it is not the most important thing needed to be successful because having a well-balanced, nutritious diet, pacing yourself and setting a strategy, and having the right positive attitude can put you in the shape to be a successful cross country runner.
Running in a girl’s cross country meet isn’t as easy as it sounds, but with a little experience and help it can become a better experience. The first thing everyone does is line up on a spray painted line in the grass. Before the race even starts the race official tells us the rules and counts everyone that is running. He also tells us about any big holes or ditches that we may encounter in our 2 mile journey.
Even though football and soccer often share a name, the two sports are vastly different: they both contain their own merits though; each has its own athletes, rules, and fan base. Athletes in both sports are incredibly fit and in control of their bodies although they can differ. In soccer, all positions require speed, agility, and leg dexterity in order to out run their opponent and maneuver the ball while in football the variety of positions require different attributes. Height is only beneficial in soccer for some defenders and mid-fielders in order to gain an advantage to jump for heading while it can act to slow attackers who need speed and quickness above jump height. Speed, in both running and ball control, is required above all else to chase or lose the other team. To wrestle control of the ball from opponents, defenders in soccer must simply be stronger than the lightweight sized attackers. Only goalies need hand-eye coordination while the rest of the team needs only foot finesse. In football the many positions require their own set of needs. Quarterbacks must be tall to see the field over the lineman and have a good arm to throw the ball. Lineman must be as large and strong as possible to block or move the opposing line man. Runningbacks need speed and quickness to out run and dodge while having enough strength to break tackles and hold on to the ball. Receivers are similar except that they also need hand-eye coordination to catch passes and height to outreach the defense. Linebackers must be the most versatile, with strength to take down ball carriers and a combination of speed and coordination to keep up with receivers. The training in these sports is an enormous difference. In cross country a runner trains by going miles upon miles each day to build their stamina, as a sprinter this is far from my favorite part. This is a sport where an athlete has to have the will to stay true to a course instead of cutting and cheating themselves the training they will soon need. Cross country is a mentally tough sport, an athlete has to have the mindset that they will be able to go that distance. While in track the athletes also train to build their stamina, it is a different aspect they need it for. This is a sport with no shortcuts, but knowing I pushed myself as hard as possible in those short, intense workouts. Both of these sports consist of lengthy stretching to stay as healthy as possible for the real purpose.

They both contact sports, each team has 11 players, they both outdoor sports played on a rectangular field on grass, each team has to pass the ball towards the opposite direct till a goal is scored and there are no limit to goals. As it becomes increasingly acceptable for women to be athletic in American culture, a new question arises: in which sports should women be allowed to participate? From a physiological standpoint, it has been scientifically proven that female bodies do not differ significantly enough from male bodies to prevent them from participation in any "male" sports. This division between "male" and "female" sports clearly stems from age-old, socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity. When women attempt to challenge these societal molds by participating in sports that are traditionally male, the intricate web of norms is disrupted. Like many other instances where traditional social constructions are tinkered with, individuals and communities are forced to reevaluate how they think about and categorize their surroundings. I would argue that women's participation in athletics, especially in non-traditional sports, is instrumental in breaking down stereotypes and social confines that have plagued women for centuries
