Running in a girl’s cross country meet isn’t as easy as it sounds, but with a little experience and help it can become a better experience. The first thing everyone does is line up on a spray painted line in the grass. Before the race even starts the race official tells us the rules and counts everyone that is running. He also tells us about any big holes or ditches that we may encounter in our 2 mile journey. At least half a week before your meet it is important to drink plenty of water and eat fairly healthy. Hydrating your body all through this half week can actually help during the race. The things you eat can either slow you down or help you out. For example, drinking a soda the day before the race will just slow you down because of all …show more content…
the heavy syrup in it. Eating right and drinking water can help you greatly. When the gun goes off everyone takes off slightly faster than race pace for the next 200 meters. Eventually everyone is running in order of their abilities. The fastest are in the front and the slower ones are in the very back. The race isn’t all in the woods so most of the time you see coaches and a couple of parents running around to catch their kids. When running a cross country meet it is important to control your breathing. If you are breathing irregularly the chances are you will slow down. Next it is important to push yourself. It is important because all the work you put in during practice will reflect in your run and it is always important to try and beat you’re time. Staying with someone is also something else that is really important. When running by yourself it will open a door for walking and giving up. If there is someone right in front of you or behind you it will motivate you to keep going or speed up. When running up a hill, it is important not to sprint.
The downhill is the time to really run a little faster and let the hill “carry” you down. Also when running in mud it is important not to drastically slow down. If you slow down to a walking pace in the mud it is an opportunity for another runner to pass you. There are also some tricks to passing someone. Passing a competitor is obviously important in a race. Before passing someone the first thing that needs to be done is to slow down your breathing. If you are breathing heavy it lets the competitor know that you are tiring out and they can pass you fairly easily if they work at it. When passing someone do it quickly. By doing so it lets them think that you have a lot more energy left in you than they do. Chances are they will give up and stay at the same pace they are. There are even steps for cross country runners who aren’t as good as everyone else. The most important step in my opinion is to master walking without anyone seeing you. By doing this it lets people think that you hadn’t walked at all so they will think that you have more endurance than you actually do. Next when you do walk, fast walk. That way your pace isn’t as slow, therefore; it makes it even less noticeable that you walked. Lastly don’t compare yourself to anyone else in the race. You are doing what you can do they just may have been running for a lot longer than you. Set a goal of how fast you want to run and really work towards it. A good thing
to remember is that at least you are out there doing it. If you don’t have a big goal let finishing the race be your goal. The last and final process in the race is the finish. This is one of the factors that can help you get a better place. At the last 200 or so meters sprint. This is the last part so when sprinting sprint with all you have left. If there is someone in front of you make it your goal to pass them. When reflecting on the race you just ran it is important to know that you gave it all you had and didn’t leave any energy left in you. As you can see there is a lot of technique to running in a cross country meet. It takes a lot of dedication and endurance to participate in one of these meets. A couple steps to remember are to eat right before the race, pass people up quickly, don’t sprint up hills, and control your breathing. If you follow these steps you can become a successful cross country runner.
As far as the length of meets, track meets are longer than cross country meets, track meets have many more events than cross country meets. In my opinion, placing in track is easier than placing in cross country, because in track meets there are only 9 runners per heat, and usually there are 2 to 4 heats. On the other hand, cross country has from 200 to as much as 700 people racing at the same time! Imagine that, running with 700 people, cluttered and being shoved and pushed while running. Not the best feeling in the world. Sometimes you get “spiked”, other runners tend to kick you or step on you with their spikes. Usually runners use plastic spikes, but there are some runners that use metal spikes, and at times they use it in a way to help them cheat, by “spiking” ...
Take the position of a runner in the starting block for a short running race. Place one foot forward and one foot back while placing your hands on the starting line.
...w quickly you'll be done. Also, keep in mind that you are not racing for just you, but for your team also. Letting go of all the negative vibes and thoughts can make room in your mind for the thought that can help you succeed.
Its not quite easy to be a successful track runner. You have to be devoted enough to observe your eating habits, be able to weightlift, and constantly practice plyometric drills. Plyometrics are exercises used to strengthen leg muscles; which can include regular
I signed up to run track in the spring and went to summer conditioning for cross country. That’s when my coaches, teammates, and myself noticed that my running has improved significantly from when I first started. I knew that I had to work hard my senior year to achieve my goals for running. Running is a mental sport. The workouts I had to do were brutally painful and I had stay positive throughout the run because I know the training I had to do will help me during a race.
Have you ever been to a horse race? Seeing the riders give their horses a pat and an apple after the race, people cheering for their horse as it runs rapidly to the finish line? Seems like a great time. But what happens to those horses after they are done their race. What happens to the people who gambled their family’s lives savings. All horse racing should be shut down due to the well being of the horses, the effects of gambling, and the lack of interest.
Cross country and track to an outsider, they can only be seen as running. Well, to a student of the sport they are both so much more. Runners are gathered to both, but there are plenty of variations between the two. Although I love both of these sports, if I had to side with one, I would choose track. These can commonly be seen in training, races, and people.
Rowing, originally used as a form of torture for convicted criminals, is now a recreational enjoyment for all. Despite the conditions, those slaves, now known as athletes, are demanded for pressing manpower at all times. In modern day, rowing is a year-round sport where people voluntarily go to endure hell and seem proud of the accomplishment. Seemingly, it should create more problems than any other sport because of how much time it consumes and how much misery it puts athletes through. However, people disregard that the effect it has in the long run actually outshines the predicaments of the present. Crew’s long dark history has turned it into one of the worlds most beloved and competitive Olympic sports and a cherished part of life for millions
“You are a great champion. When you ran, the ground shook, the sky opened and mere mortals parted. Parted the way to victory, where you'll meet me in the winner's circle, where I'll put a blanket of flowers on your back.” This is a quote from one of my favorite movies, which just so happens to be a movie about a race horse, Mariah’s Storm (Sonador), that is based on a true story, based on a horse that won the Breeder’s Cup, after suffering and recovering from a broken cannon bone caused by falling during a previous race. Although the movie may not reflect directly on my essay, the quote reflects on all areas of horse racing.
You can be either gender to run cross country. I know other sports you can’t. Like football. Or volleyball. Also, being a girl or boy doesn’t effect if your good or not.
Running may be one of the oldest and most developed sports out there. According to legend, the first marathon was run unintentionally in 490 B.C. by a Greek Soldier(James). The soldier ran twenty-five miles to Athens to announce battleground victory over the persians then dropped dead(James). In 1896 the marathon was included in the Olympic games, in Greece, for the first time(James). It was there that the first gold was won by a Greek runner with a time of two hours fifty-eight minutes and fifty seconds(James). The current world record for the fastest finish is two hours three minutes and fifty-nine seconds(James). Marathoning has turned into a world wide activity and every person who participates must endure intense training.
I believe illegal street racing should be taken more serious and should be better contained and cops should be stricter because illegal street racing is very dangerous and it can even be deadly at times. It is also against the law to street race, speed , and it can also cause problems not only for the law with people but also for people with other people so therefore I believe cops should be way more stricter about illegal street racers. Racers is going to increase. Not only are they injuring, killing people but they are also Illegal Street racing is a very dangerous and at times it can also be deadly.
“JV, you have ten minutes!”, said the announcer after the gun went off. “C’mon ladies, we need to stride out and circle up.”, I said to all of my teammates. Kelsey was the one who led us in prayer that day. Lining up anticipating the start of the race really gives me an adrenaline rush. “Runners to your mark…Get set..”, in the booming voice of the official. Boom! The sound of the gun indicating the start of the race. My first mile is always a little too fast. I can’t help it though, my nerves are going crazy. “You’re at 7:10 Alexis! Keep that pace! You can do it girl!”, I heard from Jane. That first mile went by so quick. Now I was onto my second, the one that always killed me. A big hill was coming up, and I knew I would have a hard time making it up it and then recovering. The whole time all I heard was, “Push through, almost there! C’mon girl, finish strong!”, from Jane of course. Before I knew it I was in the last 400 meters of the race, fighting for that 15th place medal with the girl next to me. “Alexis, kick it NOW! Last 400, this is your race, get that girl!”, said Jane. I pushed through and had a strong finish, beating the girl that Jane encouraged me to catch.

Equestrian riding could perhaps get considered the most dangerous sport in the Olympics, but why do some people still don’t call it a sport? Many people all throughout the world love Equestrian sports. Although, some people say that horseback riding shouldn’t get called a sport. With many different events that involve horses, horseback riding can get proven to qualify for a sport even if some people in society says otherwise. People who think horseback riding should not get called a sport focus more on their opinions and not actual facts.
