A good leader is hard to find, especially when living in a world that seems to prize individuals who do not embody the three characteristics that define an exceptional leader. Each of these characteristics can be developed and are not automatically given to a certain group of people, however they do require hard word and a desire to better yourself. A good listener, thoughtful individual, and humble person are all traits that I value most in a leader and use to define good leadership. The ability of an individual to be able to listen to another person, keeping their sole attention on what that individual is saying, and not thinking ahead to what they will say or do next is a valuable trait. This attribute is important because it ensures that a leader is aware of the concerns and opinions of those around them and thus able to address them as seen fit. This trait can begin to be developed through the continuous practice of staying silent while another individual is talking. Because a leader is able to think through the results of their action they have the ability to save themselves and others from the possibility of having to face horrible consequences. This characteristic is an important trait of leadership through the way it allows a leader to be wise regarding their actions. This trait can be developed through a leader taking time before every major decision to think through the type of results that could come about from their action. The ability of a leader to not get caught up in their emotions and the opinions of others, but to remain calm, quick to listen and slow to action is a valuable trait.
