What is an educated person? What charateristics does he or she possess? In my opinion an educated person possess these three charateristics: leadership, open-mindedness, and communication. Most people consider themselves educated yet do not possess these charateristics. Throughout school I was always encouraged to improve theses three skills because that 's what employers were looking for. You need these three skills to not just be employed, but to also have a social life and to go far in life. There are many reasons why these charateristics are very important.
First, a person must possess leadership ablilties to be considered educated. Leadership abilities show that you 're not afraid to take charge. To be a leader you need to be able to speak up and take charge in any situation you 're in. For example, if you are on a job and your boss says that you and a team need to figure out everyone 's strengths and weaknessess, you will have to take charge and speak up to get the information your boss wants. To be a leader you also have goals in mind. If you have goals in mind you have a

Other people may have different characteristics they feel that an educated person should possess; however, from what I have heard and seen, employers think these three characteristics are the most impressive. These skills have been taught to me from kindergarten to now and there has to be a reason why these skills are so important. Leadership skills show you are not afraid to take charge, you have goals in mind, and you have confidence. Open- mindedness shows you respect the opinions of others, you show you are curious to know what others share, and are always striving to learn more. Finally, communication skills show you work well with others , you can talk in front of large crowds, and you can deal with difficult
They require to have intuition as well as knowledge and sometimes personal skills. The author of Blue-Collar Brilliance, Mike Rose, uses the story of his mother and uncle. He disagrees with the statement, “Intelligence is closely associated with formal education.” To support his disagreement he talks about how skilled his mother and uncle are, without continuing their education. Mike uses rhetorical questioning in his mother’s point of view at her job in the fast paced job. The assumption of the quote “work requiring less schooling requires less intelligence”. Mike Rose argues with that by saying ” intelligence is closely associated with formal education– the type of schooling a person has, how much and how long –and most people seem to move comfortably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling requires less intelligence”. In another words, Mike Rose saying that most people think that blue-collar jobs are for “stupid” people. Reasoning with that quote he can justify why he is disagreeing with such a statement. He telling his audience how his uncle dropped out of high school, and continued his life, until he became supervisor of General Motors. He is trying to tell us that his uncle has authority without advanced education. Mike supports this by saying his uncle had more hands-on experience and knowledge in his field than anyone would learn in a college. I agree and disagree at the same time, because I believe that people learn way more when they learning by doing with their hands than in a classroom. But when you start your career without education it takes more years and tough moments, because in our world there’s so much new technologies coming up. Having a job is a big journey of trials and errors without education. Going to college will help people to save time and prevent much mistakes as
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
The first of these characteristics is my hard working mentality, and I am sure that this characteristic is thrown around a lot by candidates but I believe that I truly work harder than most people are willing to. I have had to earn every ounce of everything that I currently have. Whether it was finally getting into Pitt, or playing football at the DII college level the only reason I have ever been able to attain these achievements is that I put in the time, and worked harder than even I thought was possible for myself, I was never the most naturally gifted person in the world, I had to work hard, or I would not be in the position to even apply for a position such as this. Another thing that I feel differentiates myself is that I have experience in many different academic disciplines, I was not that student that simply took my major classes, and easy classes to get through school. I have taken and have a ton of interest in many different topics such as Political Science, and History. I feel that these multifaceted interests, and course history make me a great candidate for the
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
A leader needs to “believe” in oneself and have the confidence that whatever you say will excite and what you do can motivate others. You must be optimistic about what you do, do have some relevance for being in existence. Believe it or not, “leadership begins with you”.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
Next, this person takes his or her theory and puts it to the test by conducting
This book emphasizes on theories of becoming a leader, it is not a “how to” book by any means. Bennis states how leaders contribute to society and how crucial they are, along with the characteristics that come along with being a leader. He provides intriguing insight about leaders and emphasizes the integrity and authenticity that such people carry. In this reading, Bennis (the author) recognizes an immense amount of traits/characteristics a leader possesses which are: maturity, curiosity, trust, passion, guiding vision, candor, self knowledge, and daring. Bennis claims that people are not born with these traits, and that people gain these traits by pushing themselves to exceed others.
There are many different things I think of when I think of what leadership means to me. My idea of leadership is to be able to inspire others, get them excited to do something, motivate them and set an example to others. I also think that showing respect to others is a key part of leadership. You don’t just need leadership qualities, but you need to be a successful leader. To me being a successful leader is being able to have people follow you and not disrespect you. If you are a great leader your followers start to respect you more. To be a leader you also need to have certain qualities like being sociable, intelligent, have patience to deal with situations. A leader needs to be motivated or they will be a failure. I think I show leader ship all the time inside and outside of school. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way (John C. Maxwell).
To be a good leader you must be strong-minded, but more importantly you have to be intelligent. Someone who is smart can back up his or her statements with fact. If someone is intelligent people are more likely to listen to their ideas before someone who is less intelligent. If one is intelligent they have the ability to instruct a group properly. And if one is intelligent they can organize all of the groups projects better the a less intelligent person.
The only person who truly controls how educated I am, is me. My education feeds my intelligence, and since I want to be an intellectual, I want an exemplary education. In the end, no one can transfer knowledge from one brain to another, like a money transfer from account to account. It is something that I have to achieve with hard work and effort. Of course, I want someone to push me to learn and to grow, but I must decide for myself whether I want to succeed, or not. I know that I want to succeed and earn my education. I want to know everything there is to “know”. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use my knowledge to teach others, and give them the ability to spread knowledge throughout the world.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
“It’s the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” One theory of the meaning of this quote, by Aristotle, is that the trait of open-mindedness exhibits the presence of an educated mind. The question at hand is, why is an “educated mind” so imperative? Receptiveness is pivotal in the world today as it is mandatory to interact with others, who have diverging ideas, on a daily basis; without it, communication barriers are formed between loved ones, acquaintances, and even strangers. An educated mind is beneficial to citizens and professionals alike and should be taught in higher education by developing students’ identities using the particular mindset. The use of logical reasoning when observing other’s
Being educated is to be adaptable, willing to entertain new ideas, and pursue knowledge. Throughout the semester, my idea of an educated person has changed quite a lot, starting with the necessity of higher education, ending with a more substantial, personal motivation. I thought that the only way to be truly educated was to attend college, and get a degree, obtaining proof that you were a refined, cultured, person. However, I’ve come to believe that as long as you’ve come to understand that education is constantly evolving, that your level of knowledge about things can constantly be refined, then I believe that you are an educated person. Educated people know that there is always more to learn, and go find ways to introduce themselves to the new information, through either fantastic circumstances or by the sheer force of will.
