THE MUSIC INDUSTRY – GLOBALIZING IN MANY WAYS
The music industry is in a time of growth at this very moment. The environment for its growth has been increasing rapidly on many geographical boundaries and has been established through information technology and Internet. In this paper I will analyze how the music industry not only has been affected by Globalization as an economic institution but also that it has become a worldwide-globalized commodity. First, I will begin by analyzing how the music industry, though its consumption is not a necessity, it is affected by large economic factors and has become a large Music Market. Furthermore I will analyze how the music market has globalizing tendencies for the consumers.
People get into their cars and listen to music, you walk into a shopping center and they are playing music; walk into a restaurant and they are playing music too, people listen to music in their work place as well. Runners listen to music as they exercise, you can even listen to music while you are sitting on the dentist chair. Everybody listens to music! Everywhere at anytime! Try to go on line and among other links on Travel, Stock Quotes, Sports or Entertainment, you’ll find a link on Music. There are so many companies that advertise music on line. Every day mass emails are sent that offer music on line. Did you know you can get 12 CDs for only one penny ? All you have to do is join one of the online music distributors : it doesn’t matter whether is BMG or Columbia House, the ‘package’ is the same. It doesn’t matter either if you are in the United States or not, they deliver internationally! Music is not a necessity but everybody is using it.

The production and consumption of music has become a market of its own that has been growing and getting stronger every single day. Many companies have found their fortune in the music industry and have become part of the globalization by entering the worldwide market and economy.

Music, this new commodity, is helping the world to become a global marketplace as well as bringing the consumers into an unexpected globalization. The music industry is spreading far and wide across the globe bringing people of all countries, cultures and races together by the sounds of American popular music.

The Internet—as it did for almost everything—has radically changed the way people get music. The Internet has cut into the music industry's profits. It reduced the demand for CDs, increased the interest in singles and let people decide whether they want to pay for the new Prince album. This alone could be offset if all of the people pirating music would go to their favorite artists' shows. However, the hard economy has rapidly cut into people's ability to spend on luxury items and concerts rank right up there with sports in terms of practicality.
Within this essay i shall be examining to what degree the music economy has entered a post-industrial state. I shall do this by first highlighting the the definition of post-industrialism and show how this affected musicians in the present day; and as a result how this has affected my personal and professional development within the music industry. I will highlight interesting factors such as the different interpretations of how we define an era, what place the creative industries have within a post-industrial society and areas of my own professional development, goals and education.
In this day and age, pop music dominates the airwaves at every turn. Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, and many are commonplace names among teenagers and younger demographics not only in the United States, but all around the world. The United States has accepted the position of international, cultural role model long ago, dating back to the 1950’s when rock and roll caught fire as a hybrid of blues, country, and jazz and spread to the rest of the world almost infectiously. Since then, every major artist that comes out of the United States has easily become a global icon, regardless of the language or nationality of their adoring fans. However, one could conceive that this glamorized version of music comes less from the soul of the artist and is merely born of fiscal ambitions and visions of grandeur. The point made previously is not to critique any pop icon’s talent, which clearly they have proved to possess an abundance of it to keep the public swooning at their every whim, but instead, to show that there are musicians out there producing beautiful music without the threat of corruption and adherence to mainstream culture.
But still there are situations where non-western countries listen and buy western music without understanding the English language only because the music is popular mainstream. The idea behind becoming a leader is having a wide market for both local and international music. The US – which has the largest market globally – listens to both local and global music. In fact some of the highest selling music records since the 20th century are not from American but international bands and artists such as the Beatles, Adele, and the Rolling Stones (Olsen, 2004). But the argument remains that it is difficult for musicians who sing in English to break through in multilingual countries. Taylor (2015) the “international music industry’s conservatism and xenophobia make success even more difficult” (p. 97). This lessens the chances the chances of growth in the market.
The current growth of the music industry is a result of the global popularity of EDM (Unknown, 2013). The DJ market has increased in popularity in past years as new technology has made it easier to become an entertainer (Vincent, 2013).
Live performance: These days live performance is everything. Live music is for the fans to give them a way to see their idols. Live performance has changed so much with technology. From small artists to major artists live is what it’s all about, an example for a major artist after recording and finishing an album they need to get the road with the finished product to perform concerts and festivals. The information provided in the journal could serve a variety of purposes but it is mostly an analytical source of news. The articles within the journal analyze the latest trends in the music industry and layout possibilities for the future.
This article use facts and figures to show just how much money is put into the music industry and the fact that sponsorships and brands play a very large role in income and success on moth sides (the musicians and the brand). Brands include many technology companies, drinks companies and clothing lines amongst others. being such a colossal industry, music has now become the place to invest for large companies rather than sports, which have been at the forefront of investments for a long time.
The influence that music has throughout the world is immeasurable. Music evokes many feelings, surfaces old memories, and creates new ones all while satisfying a sense of human emotion. Music can be a tool for many things: relaxation, stimulation and communication. But at the same time it can also be a tool for resistance: against parents, against police against power. Within the reign of imported culture, cross cultivation and the creation of the so-called global village lies the need to expand horizons to engulf more than just what you see everyday. It is important to note that the role of music in today’s world is a key tool in the process of globalization. However, this does not necessarily provide us with any reasons that would make us believe that music has a homogenizing affect on the world.
