The way people respond in stressful situations says a lot about their character. A person’s reaction can tell you a lot about how they handle all types of situations, not just conflict. A person may respond a certain way due to how they were raised, the environment they live in, or because it makes the most psychological sense to the individual. You may say that a person’s reactions are based on what they learned growing up, after all, Joan E. Grusec and Tanya Danyliuck say people, “... are behaving in accord with information about appropriate parenting acquired through books, Web sites, or informal and formal advice.” And also say, “Yet another major determinant of their behaviour lies in their general attitudes as well as specific beliefs, …show more content…

For example, Anne Frank made her times hiding in the Annex easier by finding good things to write about in her diary. In the eighteenth paragraph of her diary, she writes, “The Annex is an ideal place to hide in. It may be damp and lopsided, but there’s probably not a more comfortable place in all of Amsterdam. No, in all of Holland” (Frank 18). And she also says, “Up to now our bedroom, with its blank walls, was very bare. Thanks to Father--who brought my entire, postcard and moviestar collection here beforehand-- and to a brush and a pot of glue, I was able to plaster the wall with pictures. It looks much more cheerful”(Frank 19) . Being in denial distorts your idea of how dangerous a situation may be, but Anne was clearly aware of what was going on. Instead of complaining about her unfortunate experiences, Anne found good things to write about like her comfy hiding place and her collection of pictures. … says that “ Even if people respond to the potential threat, survival is not guaranteed.”() and even though Anne eventually died, she was able to survive much longer and was much more happy than a person who would have only complained and worried about the
