Argumentative Essay
Having a positive outlook can be very important when being involved in a conflict or trying to solve one. This is how Anne Frank and Louise Ogawa from First Read: Dear Miss Breed got through the roughest times of their lives. They kept a positive outlook on things and tried to make the best of the worst. Just looking on the bright side, even if it feels like there isn’t one can make a huge difference. As a great thinker, such as Joyce Meyer, once said, ‘’A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances, having power over you’’. If they did not maintain a positive outlook, then who knows how they would have survived. Having a positive outlook gives you the strength to keeping going
Her delicate work in shaping the stone mountains, the beautiful coloring of the surroundings- it seemed as if I was looking at the picture of a genius (paragraph 21.) This was written in one of the letters given to Miss Breed by Louise Ogawa. Many young girls looked up to her and wrote her letters. This supports how she acknowledged the natural beauty instead of materialistic things. To others, it would just be another village or a view of the everyday work we live in. But she was just grateful for the fact she got to see such a magnificent view of
Like why think or dream about a perfect life you can't have. It makes it difficult for you to reach your goals in life. In the text, it stated ‘’The more you fantasize about your fabulous future, you're happy life, your dream job, the loving people around you, and the huge amounts of money, the farther you get from making these dreams come true.’’ This shows that positive thinking can get in the way of all your hopes and dreams. You may have an image of a life that seems perfect, but you need to be able to separate that from reality and not get the two mixed. It sometimes blinds you from the true reality. Also in the same text, it stated ‘’the pressure of positive thinking can result in suppressing any pessimistic thoughts or unpleasant emotions because they might attract bad things… You deprive yourself of access to the complete picture and the full range of emotions. You limit yourself from experiencing life in all of its wonderful complexity’’. In other words, this text is trying to say that positive thinking gets in the way of seeing the full truth or the whole part of life and it takes away the experience of realizing the bad things, the mistakes you make. However, these people are wrong because by dreaming about a life we want or imagine to have is setting goals for
She starts by bringing a pessimistic view to photographs of nature, by describing what may or may not lie just outside the boundaries of the picture. Mockingly she leads the reader to assume that there are no real nature photos left in the world, but rather only digitaly enhanced photos of nature wit...
Throughout the book the author implies that through persevering through adversity, following omens, and overcoming one's fears, everyone has a chance to achieve their dreams.
Ever hear one say, “Sometimes I’m busy making others happy, that I forget to make sure I’m okay.”? After reading Barbara Ehrenreich’s Bright-Sided I have learned that balancing both positive and negative thinking is the single most important life lesson shown throughout the book. Ehrenreich tells readers that the power of positive thinking Is undermining America and how being too positive and too optimistic, can lead to trouble. One that knows how to balance the amount of positivity and negativity will create a proper outcome for their future.
...too optimistic can result in sadness and despair. Optimism also has the power to blind us from seeing the harsh and cruel realities in life. Optimists focus exclusively on the bright side of life and tend to avoid all the cruel realities. However, when the time comes to face a harsh reality, optimists are unprepared and fail. Wiesel makes this argument to show us the negative effects of optimism. For example, the belief that drinking and driving or speeding is not going to end fatally. Optimists have the mindset of “death is something that happens to others.” Drinking and driving and speeding blind the driver from realizing there is a possibility of death. These optimistic people are the most likely to die due to the fact that they are not aware of this possibilities. Wiesel would agree that optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable.
Resolving conflict is a major part of life. If people don’t handle problems well, then things could go very bad for them. If they do handle them well, their problems will be fixed without any other issues. One of the most effective ways for solving conflict is using hope and courage. Both Anne Frank and some people in Dear Miss Breed used these techniques to deal with their problems.
According to author Annie Dillard, throughout Teaching a Stone to Talk, nature isn’t only aesthetically-pleasing, but serves a greater purpose. The elements of nature do strike her, often, with beauty, but to her and for her, nature isn’t just something that ‘we’ must rely on for beauty, but is something where we can find answers to our most complex debacles, ones that we -- as a society and as individuals -- often struggle with. It’s evident that nature is of great, paramount importance to her, and isn’t something she just sees physical beauty in, but is something she finds answers and clarity in, and believes that ‘we’ can find that in nature, as well. We can understand life, through nature.
A positive attitude is, after all, absolutely necessary to achieve success since it influences the outcome of a task more than any other factor (Jacobs 2016). Jane Satrom definitely fits the bill when it comes to having a positive attitude. During her first year as a teacher, Mrs. Satrom recounts having two students who tested her patience and good heart. The two African-American students “accused [her] of being racist” and were constantly going to any possible extent to “get [her] off topic so they [did not] have to work” (J. Satrom, personal communication, September 27, 2016). This was barely the beginning of Mrs. Satrom’s career and she was already facing difficult situations on the job. However, although she “drove home, crying, many a day, over those two” she kept her positive attitude and moved on. This is a prime example of the correct way for someone to handle an obstacle they
I think that what the author was trying to imply in this passage was that in his personal experience, he has noticed that many people take many things for granted and that they don’t live their lives according to what they want and need to do. So much is wasted during one’s lifetime, and people just allow their lives to pass them by.
Attitude, then, is not only important in our day-to-day lives but it is necessary for not only us but our family. It is the thing that helped Leon Leyson and Anne Frank make the best out of their horrible experience. So no matter what the situation, we should keep a positive attitude during hard
Haidt believes that we can gain positive benefits from adversity, but only under the right circumstances. First, the person must successfully make sense of the situation. Meaning they must cope with the situation well. The two appropriate coping styles are action and rehearsal. People who are naturally optimist are more likely to use these to coping style and benefit from adversity. These people expect that their work will pay off, so they continue to work even when it becomes difficult. Pessimistic people are more likely to use the avoidance coping style which makes them less likely to deal with their adversity. They end up managing their pain instead of dealing with it. The key is to draw constructive lessons for your adversity. Second, people who express their
In the event that one winds up plainly confident and idealistic, they will be less defenseless. Individuals inclined to focus are informed to have a colossal sense concerning amusingness and to acknowledge life out of this world.
The article about the Chinese farmer by Evelyn Theiss is deep and very thoughtful. It actually touches a part of the way I think. Life is full of events, some of them might be good and others might be bad, and the way the person thinks affects how he/she sees these events. Personally, I don’t prefer negativity because it would always make things worse. On the other hand, I don’t like being positive too much because I would be so depressed if things didn’t work out the way I thought it would. Living life with balancing both sides is the best, in my opinion, and that Chinese farmer did exactly what the best (2009). I always believe that anything would happen to us is for a cause, even if it’s bad, we could learn from it.

In order for me to hold true to this ideal, I must accept the actions of others and be optimistic about the things I cannot control. There will always be those who feel the need to cling to the pessimistic aspects of something. That is why every great speaker has critics, and why every world event or political decision has an opponent. For example, in ...
Furthermore, being positive about things will help brighten your mood. Instead of thinking of the bad things that may happen your thinking of the good. Your thinking of the better things that will come in the future.
