Fitness Testing Many people have different opinions on the use of fitness testing, some being stronger than others, but there’s still some research out there to back up most opinions. While there is plenty of good and bad connected with fitness testing, I’m going to dig into ways I should use it in the classroom when I become a teacher. Knowing the negatives of fitness testing can help me create ideas to eliminate the negatives and keep testing as fun and relaxed as possible. By doing so, I’ll make sure everyone testing feels comfortable testing and ensure that results are accurate. “Physical fitness is defined as a state of well-being with a low risk of premature health problems and energy to participate in a variety of physical activities.” (Pangrazi, …show more content…
Sharing these tests with parents can help them motivate their kids to eat healthier and be more active outside of the classroom. Students who need the most motivation are probably most likely to try and hide how they did on their fitness tests to their parents, so I think it’s important that teachers inform the parents directly. The most effective way of communication for teachers to contact parents is through email because it doesn’t disturb the parent, pretty much everyone uses email, and can be done at any time (Powell, 2015). It’s also very important that you don’t just give the fitness scores to the parents, but to explain what they are and what can be done to improve areas that need improving. Some schools give out awards for fitness testing, and I disagree with that idea. It seems that it can motivate kids to do better, but only the kids that think they have a chance to earn it (Pangrazi, 2016, p. 255). I don’t like the idea that the kids that are in the best shape will test a little better than normal, and kids who aren’t in that great of shape will most likely test worse with rewards for testing
The book begins by explaining how important exercise and being active is to our health and well-being. The author then transitions into a story about Naperville Central High School. This high school was in the forefront of a revolutionary new concept that involved vigorous exercise of its students instead of a traditional gym class. This new approach stimulated new research on the brain, and the effects of exercise on the well being of our body and minds. After the introduction of the new fitness programs, the school’s students showed drastic increases in standardized tests, and on normal tests as well.
other hand, obesity accounts for about 13 percent of children in the United States, which is why physical education programs should be one of the last things to go. They also help students release the stress they have built up through out the day and teach them the ...
In this essay I am going to investigate whether health is easily defined as the absence of disease or physical injury. According to Health psychology (2009) ‘World Health Organisation defined health as a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. In order to achieve good physical a nutrition diet is needed, healthy BMI, rest and adequate physical exercise is needed.

Health and fitness is the ability of the heart, circulation, lungs, and muscles to be able to operate at optimal efficiency, it is essential for your all around health. Actual physical conditioning is made up of three areas: Aerobic capacity or cardiovascular endurance associated with the hearts
With more technology to feel the gap of physical labor for humans and poor nutrition, obesity is rising and people are not living up to their potential. Children have been spending more time indoors with a screen in their face and a controller in their hand. Lack of physical activity not only causes obesity, but lack of brain power and achievement. Children and their families need to be taught the proper ways of how to be healthy in physical education classes to maintain their health across their life span. By incorporating in more lifelong knowledge about health into our physical education systems, obesity rates will drop and students will do much better in school.
Throughout the course of this class I have had the opportunity to learn about the physiology of the human body and many different ways that can be used to measure one’s physical fitness level. In order to determine one’s fitness level, multiple tests can be performed to test different aspects of ones fitness and when these tests are combined together can be used to assess one’s overall fitness level. Coming into this class I was unsure of my fitness level and the areas in which I needed to improve, but I figured that my numbers wouldn’t be too terrible since I got to the gym about 3 times a week and spend a great deal of time walking. Taking all of these into consideration I went ahead and tried to assess my fitness level by conducting the

Since I am a Physical Education Paraprofessional, I am required to assess students and their physical abilities based on the “Virginia Wellness-Related Fitness Testing Program” yearly (“Physical Education,” 2012). In order for the students to do their best on these assessments, I must make sure that I prepare them accordingly. In order for me to do this, I provide practice on each portion of the test during warm-ups every time the students come to my class. I also conduct these tests twice a year and use the students’ best score so that they have a higher chance of
Technology is a big part of the fitness testing that occurs in most school systems in the country. There are three different types of tests, the pacer, pushup, and sit up test. For the pacer test the voice will tell you when to begin, and then you must run from one sideline of the court to the other before the beep. You must do this continuously back and forth until you reach a passing score. For the pushup and sit up test you must go up and down as the voice commands until you either pass or fail. For example, where I went to high school we used all of these forms of technology for our state fitness testing. Even some of our athletic coaches will use the pacer test as a way to get our sports team in better condition. Also, some PE classes use music for warm ups in order to get the students focused or excited about the class. By using the music the kids will want to start moving instead of no music which may make the beginning of class seem boring and bland. Another way technology is used is through virtual games and other activities. Some examples of virtual games could be Dance Dance Revolution, or other games for the Wii, Playstation, and other video game consoles where you are constantly moving even while standing in front of a television or
I think of fitness as a way to protect the temples that God has blessed us with. It is one of the reasons why I am determined to help people do just that. Even now being part of a Special Operations Recon team for The United States Army, I help my peers excel in fitness. I have received awards and accommodations for many physical fitness achievements as well as leadership role in the army as a team leader. I recently had a soldier in my platoon who could not pass a physical fitness test, and was flagged to be chaptered out the army.
On the first fitness test, my mile time was 7:14. However, for the second fitness test, I got a time of 7:57 for my mile time. Although this is not a good time for me personally, I do believe that I earned this score. On the sheet of paper we were given, we were asked to write down seven goals that would ready us for the second fitness test. The goals I wrote down were: to stretch, run, make a playlist, eat healthy, get a good night's sleep, drink plenty of water, and to wear proper clothing and shoes. Even with these goals to guide me, I barely prepared for the test. While I did stretch and wear proper clothing, I did not complete the other goals. It could be said that I ran at soccer practice, and while that is true, I was not running for an amount of time that would actually make an impact on my performance. I also did not make a playlist, but I feel that may have helped me because I didn’t have to carry my phone while running. Before the test, I Didn't drink a lot of water either, with the exception of a couple sips from the water fountain throughout the day. Still, I believe I might’ve been dehydrated during the running. I have not been getting much sleep due to homework, and I realize now that I didn’t change my eating habits leading up to the mile. Had I followed the goals I had made, it is almost guaranteed my performance on the test

Physical education provides: 1) a variation of motor skills aimed to enhance the physical, mental, social and emotional development, 2) an understanding to improve and maintain their physical well-being and 3) opportunities to develop social and cooperative skills while gaining a multi-cultural perspective. Physical education provides a variety of motor skills aimed at enhancing the physical, mental, social and emotional development. The obesity statistics of 2009 quantified that childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since 1980 and in addition to concerns regarding chronic diseases, overweight and obesity incidences have even led to poorer levels of academic achievement (Taras & Potts-Datema, 2005). Additionally, in order to teach students the importance of preventing these ailments, those who oppose the amount of time spent in physical education or want to cut it out altogether should reconsider. Instead, time in physical education should be as equal as core subjects are seen.
Some activity clubs we provide include, dancing, running, jump roping, basketball and soccer clubs, just to name a few. These clubs encourage kids to stay active. Our PE program also sends out monthly newsletters to the parents that give them ways to help their child live a healthy lifestyle. The National Association for Sport and Physical Education states, “Regular physical activity improves functional status and limits disability during the middle and later adult years. Physical activity contributes to quality of life, psychological health, and the ability to meet physical work demands. Physical education can serve as a vehicle for helping students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, behavioral skills, and confidence needed to adopt and maintain physically active lifestyles. The outcomes of a quality physical education program include the development of students’ physical competence, health-related fitness, self-esteem, and overall enjoyment of physical activity. These outcomes enable students to make informed decisions and choices about leading a physically active lifestyle. In early years children derive pleasure from movement sensations and experience challenge and joy as they sense a growing competence in their movement ability. Evidence suggests that the level of participation, the degree of skill, and the number of activities mastered as a child directly influences the extent to which children will continue to participate in physical activity as an
