Social media, a quickly growing and popular knowledge outlet, can become dangerously addictive if the user lacks self-control. There are so many wonderful outcomes from the invention of social media. The biggest being how quickly news can spread. Anyone can share the news that they desire with a few taps on a screen. The fault in this action though, is that false testimonies can be spread just as quickly as true ones. The question is, does the positive outweigh the negative enough for a person to proceed with using social media? Without this innovative creation, though, communication would be dull and boring, so by all means, social media should be used.
Our society depends on knowledge. A new way to communicate this knowledge quickly is through social media (The Power of Social Media 1). Learning through social networking is very useful because the participant can learn the things he wants at the rate he desires (The Power of Social Media 1). Technology today is more relied upon than ever before. If one needs to call someone half way around the world, simply take out a cell phone and dial their number. Within thirty seconds, one can be speaking to that person just as if two people were conversing face-to-face. In the same manner, one has access to endless knowledge and resources by the push of a few buttons or the click of a mouse. The use of social media today is becoming more prevalent than ever before because of the convenience it offers.
“Social media, a web-based and mobile technology, has turned communication into a social dialogue, and dominates the younger generation and their culture. As of 2010, Generation Y now outnumbers Baby Boomers, and 96% of Gen Y has joined a social network” (Qualman 1). Social media now accounts for the number one use of the Internet, and this percentage is rising bigger every day (Qualman). As a consequence, people are becoming more reliant on social media, which has a led to a number of advantageous as well as unfavorable effects. Over the past couple of decades, we are all aware that social media has had a great impact on us and the way we think. Social media has revolutionized the way people communicate and socialize on a daily basis. It has been spreading propaganda on how we should live our lives, how to act, what’s right and wrong, what’s good for us and many more. It is double edge sword that hinders people’s abilities to think for their self, but has open such a vast world to share one another 's opinions in a matter of seconds on the internet or television.

Social media sites run by a particular group or person cannot avoid to be biased though and we all know this. With the use of social media, we can gather a lot of information as well considering that this information comes from different group of people based on their backgrounds and point of view as well as their cultural differences.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Modern technology has made information much easier to obtain. The Internet and World Wide Web have given people the ability to access all sorts of information very quickly and quite easily. This is an advantage for many people, especially in business. Scholars can quickly share information amongst each other to help them learn more about a topic for example. Students can learn more about anything they want simply by using a search engine such as Google to browse the web. In the last decade, we have witnessed an evolution of the Internet and the rise of social media. The Internet is still growing every day and only seems to be getting bigger and more complex.

Social media is any form of website or application which enables us to share content with one another with a simple sharing tool. Social media has become an addiction for most, if you were to ask the average student if they were connected to a social networking site, about 73 percent would reply with a yes. In addition, about 63 percent of people log on to a social media site daily and on average 40 percent log on multiple times a day. Everyone has their own reasons for the use of social media, which could include shopping, research, or other personal reasons like venting and status updates.
